Thanks for watching! I realise it's not a completely fair test as this is old gen vs new-gen as well as the engine difference HOWEVER the new gen ranger does also come in the 2L bi-turbo variant which is the same as the old gen so I would imagine tows the same (except for the great towing aids such as the trailer light test). Hope you enjoy and let me know what your experience has been!

Had the older 3.2 wild track, did alot of towing, always upto 3.5tons plus handled it ok, replaced it with the 2.0 biturbo, pulls much better than the 3.2, the 10 speed auto works superb, always has a gear available under heavy loads, the torque range on the biturbo is 1500-2500revs, any more and it's pointless over revving, for a 2 ltr engine it does very well, you have to keep that in mind, can recommend, when running with out a trailer, very impressive, more than quick enough for real world driving, very quiet and refined, very good spec and all round vehicle, tried a hilux 2.8 before the ranger, very disappointing, not in the same league on refinement and ease of driving compared to the ranger

Great video , I guess there is no replacement for displacement ! Just a note when hooking up your red break away cable don't just loop it round the tow ball as if the hitch came of there is a chance the break away will come off too . There is an oval hole on the frame of the tow bar to click the clip through . Was thinking of replacing my Audi Q7 4.2tdi with a ranger but as I tow a 3000kg trailer everywhere for work even the larger engined ranger is well down on my current 340 bhp

This is very much down to personal preference, there are thousands of people towing with the 2.0 who are more than happy with it. I nearly bought a 2.0 Wildtrack new model Ranger but ended up with a SsangYong Musso 2.2 diesel. It tows effortlessly.

@SamPegg844 күн бұрын
@@terryquest 2 tonne is my max, it tows it well. I probably wouldn’t want to tow 3.5 with it, but remember it’s a 2.2 4 cylinder any engine of that capacity is not going to like having to move what is effectively 5.5 tonnes as the Musso weighs two tonnes itself.
@hedydd23 күн бұрын
The tow hitch on Wildtrak is at exactly the right height for Ifor Williams or equivalent industrial heavy duty trailers. I regularly tow up to the full 3.5 ton trailers. The 2.0 twin turbo has no issue whatsoever towing that weight around hilly Welsh roads. My new model 2023 Ranger Wildtrak does not rev high unless I plant my foot on the pedal, which is unnecessary. It also seems much quieter than your diesel. I also have a 2014 Ranger 2.2 diesel with six speed auto that has towed ‘a lot’ and while not in the same league as the latest 2.0, it also tows 3.5 tons of trailer filled with cattle which move around in transit, no problem. Unfortunately the market for double cab pickups will shrink drastically from next April because all double cab pickups will be taxed as cars, as the Raptor already is. Commercial users will be greatly inconvenienced and have increased costs and will need to buy single cab pickups and run an extra car to transport workers to their work site. Ridiculous!

Thanks for the interesting videos, it helped validating my decision of purchasing 3.0 petrol instead of the diesel version, despite the insane mpg!!! 1.Do you happen to know where was your Raptor manufactured/assembled? The information on the web is very vague - I'd assume South Africa or Thailand? Couldn't find anything clear about a Ranger assembly unit in Europe. 2. Did your Raptor come with the remote start and/or FordPass? It would be interesting to see a video on the topic, not too many out there. All in all, may you enjoy it to the fullest and looking forward to watching your Raptor journey!

Why does the Ranger not have a hitch receiver. The fixed, phallic looking, hitch is not what should be on a tow vehicle. A receiver would let you change hitch height based on the trailer than you plan to hook up. Plus you can remove the hitch/ball when you aren't using it.
@thedoctorsgarage6 ай бұрын
The ranger raptor does but not the ranger
@rich74476 ай бұрын
@@thedoctorsgarage I saw the receiver on the RR, but then the hitch insert was just a receiver version of the same hitch as the Ranger. Are other hitch types available to fit receivers in the UK? We have many different hitch options for conventional hitches. I routinely have between 1,200 to 2,000 lbs (up to 3,000 sometimes, but usually go to gooseneck on trailers over 20,000lbs) on the conventional hitch and would be very nervous about having that kind of tongue weight on that setup. I do realize that the UK has a 3,500kg maximum for most people that are towing.

@thedoctorsgarage The V6 is based on the old Lion V6. I have seen multiple crankshaft failures with some leading to catastrophic engine failure. The high flow turbu has also seen multiple replacements. The 10 speed trans isn't geared adequately to the engine, resulting in damage to the driveline. Electrical issues also seem to be a common issue. I have seen far less warranty repairs in regard to the Bi Turbo come in to the dealership. Mostly like ancillary issues not related to the engine and driveline.

@rich74476 ай бұрын
@@S8GDY The Discovery is an even worse tow vehicle. For towing purposes, the X5 is short wheelbase (117"). Very short. It makes okay power, but is really limited as a tow vehicle. Payload is just under 700kg, so after accounting for the minimum 350kg tongue weight of a 3,500 kg, you are down to less than 350 kg for driver/passengers and their stuff. I should probably point out that I'm in North America and we have very different ideas of what is suitable and not suitable to tow. My tow vehicle has 176" wheelbase, and makes 1,633 Nm/1,200 lb ft of torque. At 3,500kg I would want more than an X5 or a Ranger if towing for more than a short distance. More tow vehicle for the size of the trailer means easier towing and less fatigue.
