Don't buy this headset

As one of the Full Body Fanatics, I still use this headset. Due to it being one of the few headsets that can support fullbody and wireless.

I currently have an index and after two whole years of use and play i remain fully happy with my purchase. I dove into vr having ample opportunity to grab this headset and hit the ground running in terms of being "above and beyond" with tracking peripherals, i simply didn't. It wasn't even one year after grabbing my headset that a friend of mine grabbed the vive pro eye and all hell and hilarity broke loose. The resolution was quantifiably inferior, the frustrating controllers were replaced within a year, and their mic continues to sound so low quality. All of that was out of the box and i assume working as intended as these problems plague most if not every headset that fell off the assembly line. There simply was not a better argument to not buy this headset, I don't think I consider Vive to be a viable brand and I don't think much was lost after the end of production announcement.

Are there any addons that give any VR headset eye tracking? I remember something was there like that some time ago.

yes it is called EyeTrackVR. Its not perfect and it is very DIY but it is a cheap way to get decent tracking

Ive been struggling trying to figure out why my facial tracker isn’t working… on my valve index. Not tryna by the vive pro eye or anything. But I downloaded the software for the facial tracker… and anytime i start it up in steamvr the lil robot icon is orange (meaning idle or sleep mode) and its never green…. And on the steamvr dashboard i see that the software is there but the only option when i click on it is to “calibrate eye tracking” theres no facial tracking option on the screen…or am i missing something? Do i have to mod anything? I’ve asked everywhere and nobody has helped me…:/

yep would love to see a video on rigging a model in blender for facial tracking to as I have an idea how to do it but haven't went that far yet on my own models so would definitely be great to see

All of the SteamVR tracked headsets are old at this point though, and nothing has really come around to replace them yet, nor does there seem to be anything on the horizon either. So if base station tracking is important to you, it seems at least as valid as the Index (which is just as old but $400 cheaper with no eye tracking) or the Vive Pro 2 (same price, more recent with better specs but also no eye tracking). Of course if you don't care about base station tracking or FBT then there are plenty of newer and cheaper options available, but then it's not really an apples to apples comparison.

One cool feature is that the proprietary _connector_ to their proprietary cables will probably inevitably DIE FOREVER if you plug it in more than a couple times, isn't that great? Serviceable product.

I'm at the point where just touching the part of the cable where it connects to the connector crashes my Face Tracking software in various new horrible ways every day.

Hi there, you're a little wrong on the tobii tracking comment. The headset supports eye look, eye openness, eye squeeze, eye dilation and eye widen. It's quite in depth but still probably not worth the $800. Not sure which docs you were reading

Some of those blendshapes like eye widen and squeeze aren't actually tracked, they just trigged based on the value of another blendshape from my understanding of reading the data in Unreal.

In my opinion, if you play vr primarily for vrchat, it's worth it. No offense to the uploader, but her avatar isn't really the best example of eye tracking. In many avatars, facial and eye tracking add SO MUCH emotion into the avatar. The only time I'd say not to get this is if you have an index or something more expensive than an index. Otherwise, until a new updated headset with eyetracking gets released, this is totally worth the upgrade. The only thing you're really sacrificing is graphical quality, however to most it won't be too noticeable, the headphones on them are kinda bad too but why play vr without standalone headphones in the first place?

Since the recent update from VRC it has been a lot better. Vive pro eye is kind of dank still IMO. For the price it is going now it is extra not worth.
