My last girlfriend was Ecuadorian. She borrowed $1000 from me over two years ago. A few months after she borrowed it, she dropped off an SUV I helped her purchase it without notifying me first. She left a note on my door on how she couldn't afford the truck anymore but thanked me for helping her get it. That was the last time I heard from her. I helped her so much financially. And you are judging the WHOLE female population of Vietnam based in your tiny bubble. I'm Brazilian and in Brazil it's pretty normal to talk about each others salary, generally complaining at the place ("I work 12 hours and those m0therf*ckers just pay me that!") And what I've learned is that you DO NOT do that in Vietnam. It's a personal question. It takes time and intimacy to talk about that. It's not like us Latinos who tell our whole life story to a stranger while we are iat a bus stop.

I date vietnamese girls since I've been to Vietnam the first time in 2010, and with some I had serious relationships and none, absolutely none of all those girls ever asked me for money, were curious about how much I make nor if I'm able to provide for them. Some even paid for hotels, restaurants and so on! Some were visiting me in Europe, flights on their expense. May many foreigners/expats just meet the "wrong" girls, the so called chicken girls or at least girls who are focussed on foreigners with money!

You definitely are expected to pay for meals, drinks...etc.. if you invite them for a date. It's possible you've encountered the wrong crowd (they're everywhere, really). From my experience and understanding, most Vietnamese women nowadays are independent and don't rely heavily on men for financial matters. One thing I'm pretty sure about is that the majority of Vietnamese women aren't fans of the Western-style penny-pinching approach to money. They're not keen on setting up a household with someone and having separate bank accounts like a typical American couple. Vietnamese women are a mix of tradition and modernity. However, they're not attracted to financially unstable, sugar daddy, or wandering types of foreign guys. Many fail to win over Vietnamese women, especially white men who might be seeking purely sexual encounters. That's why you'll find lots of American guys opting for the Philippines or Thailand for companionship instead.

I had a strange experience in Vietnam. Im dating a girl whos the head of her household, has a younger sister and brother and two friends living under the same roof. She invites them all out with us and when it comes time to pay the bill i volunteer to pay all of it as i had done the last two times weve all been out together. Yes, in Vietnam, as a man, on a date, you have to insist on paying no matter what the woman offers to you. Vietnamese people even play that game: Man: "Let me pay" Woman: "No, let me pay" Man: "No worries, I'll have the bill" Woman: "No, I'll have it" And so on, and son, and so on.....back and forth. It is a test! You get the point! Long story short: YOU PAY!!! Otherwise the same thing happens as what happened to you, you lose face big time and you are done.

I think it depends on individuals, and age gap between her and a man. For me, my Vietnamese girlfriend is very loyal to me, she never asks me about money or pay the bills for a ton of lists. My gf is in young adult age and I am a little bit older than her. And from the first date until now, she never knew I am a multimillionaire or rich or poor and I never mentioned it. And she just asked for what do I do for living. And I just let her know that I was an actor or something like that. She is still very loyal and sometime, couples found love in different way, not a money way only sometime. We all do care about money and so, everyone does. But it is all about the way you care to her and way of caring from her in some sort of levels I think. May be sometime it will need a fortune to meet with a perfect soul. Btw, my Vietnamese gf is very beautiful and she is a super star. Yeah, it is quite difficult to approach her at first, of course, and very loyal. Guy in 40s here, had exactly this situation. What I did, I asked her what it's for, it's for a business she wants to start, and then I just dumped the money on her. I didn't expect to get it back anyway lol. Can't complain. I completely undersign your title, if you can't pay, don't play. It's absolutely dumb how many Western "kids" get into absolute trainwrecks trying to date here. That said, at least Vietnam doesn't actually draw that many Westerners, so it's not as many victims as there could be. There is absolutely no need to pay 100k though. Once you get married and invite the state into your relationship, it very quickly becomes about money in the west too. Add a kid or two and you are going to provide, even if you get divorced. Date a single mother and soon you will be paying for her kids food when you are out shopping or in a restaurant, paying for half of the vacations cost if not more, let them move in to your place you are paying the rent for. While women in general will participate with the monthly payments, they most likely will earn less then you as a man (due to choice of job, parttime work etc.) and in the end you will allways pull more financial weight then she will. Direct or indirect you pay for a woman/relationship in the west or you are seen as pretty useless as well here UNLESS, you get involved with an "empowered and self sufficient woman" which is trying to be the man she wants you to be. So it really depends...... do you want a traditional woman, be a traditional guy with all the benefits and obligations ..... do you rather date women that do 50/50, you might end up with a typical western feminist (light) that will try to boss you around and who wants that?
