Graduated A-school and about to graduate C-school and Sgt is spot on as usual. Plenty of guys I know pending promotion for meritorious Lance Corporal their first 8 months into their careers and throw it all away for something stupid like alcohol. Do yourself a favor and stay away from the bad crowds. You might seem left out but that’s a good thing in this situation. Go workout, eat at chow every meal, and improve yourself. Junior marine paycheck aren’t much, but I’ve saved a lot because I never order food, don’t but TVs, games, or anything like that. There’s NJPs almost every week tbh. Don’t be one of them. Stay away and go do your own thing with the right people and better yourself

My husband did the same shit. He bought his parents this "nice expensive jewelry" while at the school house. We didn't pay it off until our third year of marriage 😂 200 was taken put of the account every pay check. So 400 a month for jewel for 4 1/2 years. And that shit broke in the first month his mom wore it.

1. Don’t get on your instructors radar in a bad light, they know somebody at your unit 2.Don’t neglect your physical fitness. It’s easy to do when you have so much freedom. You did 10 days of boot leave then MCT so chances are you are not as sharp as you were when you graduated recruit training. MOS School is the best time to start hitting your feet to the pavement 3. Realize you are there to learn your job and that’s your primary concern. So if the choice is between partying with your buddies or studying for a test make sure you STUDY! 4. When the academics aren’t pressing try to have fun. These guys where with you in boot camp, MCT, and now MOS school and this might be your final chance to hangout with this group of friends. Enjoy it while it lasts

I was at MOS school in 1986 (MOS 2674) in California, and we were not supposed to drink under 21. Those same rules (technically) applied, but we drank always, everyday - Only s-birds ever got in any trouble for stuff like that.
@no3144u4 жыл бұрын
I mentioned this on another AONIXO post, but keep your books. There is gold in some of those books, well knowledge gold? (that's a thing, right?) You might not need everything you learn in school for your job in the MC but you might need something you learned and didn't use on the outside. Keep the books, it reminds you of what you learned and can prove what you studied if you ever try to get college credit. Finally, get college credits for anything you can, whatever classes you get in the corps are great, but they are worth much more if you get real world college credit for it. Even if you are in for 20 you will still need to get a job afterwards.

Don't be discouraged man. People are gonna try to fucking tell you what the service is about when some of them did just JROTC in high school. All I'm saying is do what you know is right for you so you don't end up hating your life because someone told you the marine corps or any other branch isn't for you. You and you only know what's good for you!!! GOODLUCK!!!
@no3144u4 жыл бұрын
I thought I was going to be in the Corps for ever, found out I couldn't keep a family and keep the uniform. However, decades later, I'm glad that when I did enlist it was in the MC. The good the bad, the bad, the hard, the worse, and some good again, you still get that extra nod of respect, or you feel just a bit prouder for having drill instructor. That said, get smart and get a degree so you can go in as an O. Look into JROTC programs, they will pay for school and you get a real degree out of it. Once you're in there will not be enuff time for you to get a degree and (when I was in) the GI bill was a joke compared to real tuition prices.

Here are some of my thoughts of what NOT to do in MOS school: 1. Never be late or miss for morning formations particularly on Monday mornings. When you are assigned to the fleet, you may be able to miss a morning formation by telling an agreeable platoon sergeant you went to sick call. At MOS school they expect you to be ready every day to attend training, be present and pay attention in classes. 2. Don't fail your PFT in MOS school. They will give you a PFT shortly after arriving and another one shortly before graduation. You don't want to be placed in mandatory physical training on top of going to classes. Plus you don't need the attention from the school cadre or your class leader/sergeant. 3. Don't do any drugs or alcohol while in MOS school. If you get caught, it will guarantee at least a non-judicial punishment (NJP) and you will not get the automatic time in service/time in grade if you are a private or private first class. You don't want to arrive as a private or private first class to your first duty station. You will get every shit detail in your unit, because you are the new guy with the lowest rank. 4. Don't bother getting a car or any expensive items while attending MOS school after arriving from boot camp. Your orders will be you cannot bring dependents and no personally own vehicles (POVs) while attending MOS school. You can wait until you assigned to your first duty station and don't do it for at least six to nine months. Some Marines get deployed when they first arrive at their first duty station. 5. Don't fail your MOS school unless you want to be retread as a grunt. It does not take much education to learn to pull a trigger or dig a fighting hole. It doesn't matter if you have a guaranteed MOS or not. If you cannot be trained, you forfeit that guaranteed MOS. 6. Don't get stupid on weekend liberty or off duty hours. In boot camp they expected you to be stupid, but the drill sergeants constantly supervised you. After boot camp they expect you to be more mature, think on your own intelligently and supervise you less. I don't know how many new Marines got busted out while at MOS school after graduating boot camp because of all of the stupid things they do. 7. Don't be surprised if you may need to wait weeks or months for your MOS school. I was fortunate my boot camp graduation date, entering MOS school and going to my first duty station were only a couple of days or a week apart from one another. Other Marines had been waiting to enroll into MOS schools for months. It means a lot of guard duty, KP or police calls until you are slotted into a future school.

@no3144u4 жыл бұрын
Call a recruit depot, ask your question. If it's a felony (I think reckless is) then you don't want to be processed out before you even start. If it's not an issue then they will tell you, 'cause they do want that warm body. If it is an issue they will tell you 'cause the MC doesn't want to process someone they will just have to bounce out anyways.

SOI is like MCT but the grunts also the dlc, and because they're infantry they don't get training for another mos (i.e. CBRN in fort leonard wood, or comms in 29 palms, or some shit.) so they just go straight to the fleet.

Final thought, if you aren't at least somewhat terrified, then you are wrong. If you don't "get" that the drill instructors, then the L/Cpl and Cpl, then Sgt and so on don't absolutely control your life and well being then you need to think again, and once more for good measure. No one wants a suck up, so do what the hell you are told, always jump and volunteer first (they will get sick of it and promote your jolly ass), and don't do what you are told not to do. A good amount of slightly unhealthy fear (call it what you must) is crucial to being a good Marine. Don't fear the machines, blood, or bullets, fear the fact that if you cross someone they will inevitably hold your precious future in their hands at some point or another. If you're squared away then people pull for you, if you aren't or many cases even if you slip up, you can be flushed as another shit bird. Be afraid of that shit. Every shitbird I knew, beyond all the "I don't care" bullshit wanted to not be a shitbird. If you aren't afraid of that then you haven't done the math. Good news, those who aren't considered a shitbird are some of the best people I've ever known, and one day you will get to decide if someone you meet is a ass hat or not. The circle of life! I didn't really see anyone from my school days after I hit the fleet (well at least when I hit the coast) but everyone from there on was part of my life until I left. So practice in school if you must, but get it right by the time you hit the fleet because people will ask about you from the start and they certainly won't be asking you directly, at least not until you get some chevrons. FWIW
