Looking back, it’s crazy how easily affordable the 3ds line up was towards the end of its life from 2016-2019. Consoles as low as $80 brand new and many of the best games were $20 via Nintendo selects. Insane to see how much prices have hiked from a console that sold millions.

so true i remember around 2018 to 2019 i was looking for a new 3ds as i really wanted a 3ds with 3d at the time as my 2ds wasnt cutting it for me and they where about 80 to 100 which is reasonable in todays market but back then i thought it was too expensive kinda wish i did save up for one back then

The fact that it's super easy to hack combined with the GARGANTUAN library it can play means it's very much desirable, and thus, the price. Took me months to find a New! model or later for less than $200 CAD. Really wish more people who would actually use these things would have the opportunity to get them for much less.

Back in like 2017 i bought a refurbished 3ds XL off amazon and instead received a brand new non-refurbished new 3ds XL model and that was still one of the greatest days of my life.

just wanna point out something, if youre new on ebay dont stick to sellers with 90% positive feedback or higher, sticking to 99.5% or higher is generally the recommended way. with 90%, that means one out of every ten people left negative feedback, compared to 1/200 with 99.5%. obviously 90% is not terrible, you can have good experiences, but its always better to play it safe. also ebay tells you how many people have left feedback, so someone with thousands or tens of thousands of ratings should be held to a higher scrutiny than someone who has sold a couple items. you can also read the individual feedback and see if there are common complaints

I’ve brought from sellers with 70% feedback and have had immaculate products and i have brought items from people with 100% feedback which were rubbish it really depends on the person

@@beachbaIIs oh absolutely yeah, you can get good experiences with low feedback and vice versa, its just the safer option for new users is to stick with higher feedback

Also hold Start or Select when booting up the 3DS to verify if it has a custom firmware

This is a great video which is really helpful, I just started my journey looking for a 3DS myself. I just wish the stuff that popped up on the screen stayed for a little bit longer? I found myself having to pause to read the stuff that popped up a bunch of times. I really enjoyed the editing style aside from that.

@@beachbaIIs yeah auctions are a really great method of getting 3ds' for a good price, on the same day of getting the n3ds mentioned earlier i also saw an auction for a metroid edition n3ds xl for only £140 and there was only 10 minutes left on that auction. I checked later and it sold for only £160

Don't think the Switch (Gen 1) will really hit the same highs as the 3DS. I think the Switch (Gen 1) would be equivalent to the DS and DS Lite of yesteryear, value wise.

Considering just how many units of the switch are out there, i think it will drop​ considerably. But when it hits its stride and ends up being as easy to mod as the 3DS currently is it might start rising again in a similar fashion to the 3DS. The switch is gonna be a homebrew powerhouse once it stops getting security updates.

​@@beachbaIIsIts possible to have a bricked TWLNAND, which is the NAND partition containing DS/i stuff. If its bricked, running DS games doesnt work. Quickiest way to brick it is by downloading DSi System Settings and attempting to "Manage Titles"

If it's listed as for parts/ not working yes there's no refund, but if it's listed as working and it arrives broken then you have a case and can talk with eBay if the seller isn't responding

If you're good with computers and/or plan to hack your console anyway, consider a Japanese model, they go for a lot less. If you aren't interested in hacking, don't do that though - without hacking, everything will be in Japanese and it won't play US/UK games. lol
