Kofi don't let anyone deceive anyone about sugar; every food has carbohydrate that turns to sugar. the sugar is what gives you energy to be able to wake up, get up from bed, walk to do anything for the day. It doesn't matter, vegetables, fruits etc. every food you put in your mouth has carbohydrate that will turn to energy for you. I remembered when I way young in the 60s, we used to walk from Koforidua to Effeduasi, Asokore, Tafo, etc; We walk from Anlo Town to Experimental school Presby school, Eredecs for fun. We burn the energy by exercise, now, everyone take taxi or Uber to a block! why? blame your self for not burning the carbohydrates you eat. Too much carbohydrate will turn to fat if not burned by exercise. Getting old, your body slow down! enjoy live but slow down in eating any food because every food has carbohydrate that will turn to fat if NOT burn out! This is a lazy generation. Think and enjoy your live. Every food, either roots vegetable or leaf has carbohydrate. Every plant live on carbohydrates so eating them hype your carbohydrates.

Eish now even water is not good for us. The Bible is asking us, where are the former days? I was born in the middle 50's our parents use to give us food from the ground. They weed without chemicals. No fertilizer. No indomin or whatever they call it. I am neither nutritionist or a dietician. I followed the trends of my late parents to give what they gave. My father has 14 children alive, none of them has any illnesses.. l have married my husband for 46 years he has been to hospital once for fatigue. I have six children my last born is 32 years they are in gainful employment . Please let's follow biblical principles the food God gave us to eat. Love people and care for the old and the needy. Share things in common. We want everything for ourselves that is killing us. When we were young we never heard of stroke diabetes, blood pressure and many other diseases. I'm here in the USA., I ain't no doctor but I'm a Caregiver in one of the best hospitals. What your guest is saying about plantains is inflammatory. Doctors came telling us that coffee wasn't good for us. Another research results was later released that, drinking two cups of coffee a day was of beneficial health to drinkers. My mantra is that "listen to what your body tells you after you've eaten certain foods".

Very informative discussion of diabetes for us Africans because our diet is predominantly carbohydrates and less protein and fat. My wife reversed her type 2 diabetes by minimizing her carbohydrates intake. Her HgA1C is currently 4.5. Please avoid fufu, rice and kenkey. 😂.

Green plantain has been my main food since, from time immemorial, even though I have been living in England. For over 40 years. I will be 70 years in a few months' time. I don't eat banku, Kenley or any of the corn foods and fufu. What shall I eat? Stop putting fear in us.. my optician says my eyes are fine, no glaucoma detected. I have B/P, but it's hereditary. Both mother and father have it. Mother is almost 90 years of age, still kicking well and strong. My mother eats fufu, Kenley, banku, and Green Plantain.

My auntie reversed type 2 diabetes by avoiding all seed oils, grains, sugar. She ate animal based products( butter, tallow, beef and whole milk) and organic green leafy vegetables and coconut oil. She also included intermittent fasting. Within 6 months she was off her meds. The keto diet and carnivore diet is now the game changer.

What our brother is saying is true but it applies to all starchy foods. For example, plantains, especially when ripe, have a higher glycemic index and more sugar than unripe plantains. This means they can cause a quicker spike in blood sugar. Green plantains, however, have a lower glycemic index and release glucose into the bloodstream more slowly. Even cassava, banku, fufu, yam, etc. and other starchy foods are not that good either. Eating green plantains or any other starchy food [with portion control] alongside with a balanced meal rich in fiber, lean protein, and healthy fats can help prevent rapid increases in blood sugar.

Green plantain is about 30 to 40 , when it turn kokoo the glemic index go high, the tatale and the kelewele level gets as high as 130 . Also as low as green plantain sugar level is low , u also have to worry about ur potassium , green plantain got low sugar but super high in potassium so dont get comfortable with plantain

Let us not forget that Diabetes is a metabolic disorder meaning everything depends on the individual. The problem with plantain good for diabetic patients or not is difficult to understand if you don't know the culture of Africans. A lot of research about diabetes is made by the white based on their culture, so now if you tell us Ghanaians not to eat plantain or anything that contain starch what food should we eat then. In Africa especially Ghana our food is made up of carb less protein and fat. Now the problem is not the carb cuz the mean power source of energy of the body is carb before fat, our dispensations are full of people who are lazy and live a less active life, (no exercise). Ghanaians eat heavy food and sleep right after eating. I keep saying that eating carb is not the problem but, how you eat the carb and the time you're eating carb is the mean reason why develop diabetes.
