2:05 It's not glitched, the red flag above the pokestop indicates the end of the route (as shown at 2:15) and when you quit and started again, it was on reverse direction so it finally started counting ^^

It is glitched in a way, that it doesn't recognise where you're starting and if you noticed you gave the red flag instead of the blue one you have to reverse the route a few times before it'll take :(

@@mgroot Yeah, routes are full of glitches but at 0:53 the ingame map shows the beggining of the route but Nick walked to the end of it. Now, I don't know what the "true" start of the route is supposed to be, but Niantic should decide it based on the closest pokestop from your current position. Just another good idea with bad implementation by Niantic

yeah I have noticed it has been reversing the routes when before it didn't do that so you have hit reverse direction like 2-3 times until it changes to start spot you are at. Its so annoying. You just have to be paying attention before you start the route.

The first route you started was in the wrong direction. It's always worth checking your start point (blue flag) is in the correct place and the arrows are routing the way you expect before proceeding with the route. If not, just hit Reverse until it's correct (sometimes needs more than 1 press weirdly!)

Not sure about the first route thing; Niantic specified in the press release and on twitter when people asked them that Mateo, like Zygarde cells, only has *a chance* of showing up (so you can be unlucky like me and do multiple routes on a day and see neither...still rather bitter about that one). Also, one time he was invisible for me; I saw him, he disappeared, and tapping the area next to the Stop caused me to interact with him.

2:08 Nick! He's glitched specifically when the route ends at a gym (I know from personal experience as the only routes I have end with those) you have to click on the gym and he will pop up! Not sure when this will be fixed, but try it next time. ❤

Hey Nick, so as i have done a lot of routes i will let you know exactly what happened! Basically a previously route is saved in the direction you did the last time, so when you said that you have already done the same route in reverse, it showed the starting point same as last starting point! I know its frustrating but make sure to check the red and blue flags as blue is starting and red in ending point! If shown red at starting, there is a button before starting a route to reverse the direction! Hope this helps! And love your new goal to be more productive this December!

Does not save how you last ran route. I run them the same way each time, and each time I have to change directions. Also, I created them, and they always start the opposite way I originally created. Worked fine for a while, but now they're all backwards.

With routes it's important to check which direction you've chosen, as the red indicates the endpoint Edit: also on route, check the gym/stop before you finish the route for Mateo, in case he doesn't pop up without it

It's because your first attempt you had the travel going the other way. You should have reversed direction. You had the end of the route at your beginning.

The one time Mateo failed to show himself I did the old trick to force a Zygarde cell and he showed up. Basically without stopping the route, wait at the very end and force close the game. When you start it back up he should be there. Seems like in your circumstance it had to do with the first route you started being backwards, which is another wonderful glitch.

You cancelled the route, so you cancelled your daily Mataeo encounter. It sucks I know, happened to me on Day #1. Also you have to select the route direction now, as they changed it from Auto detect direction to Toggle.

Yup. The routes start backwards now so reverse direction and reverse it again. I’ve had this exact thing happen where I canceled the route. It’s the only time Mateo didn’t show. Also, always spin the stop at the end end of the route. I’ve had him pop up like a rocket grunt that way.

I have noticed it has been reversing the routes so you have hit reverse direction like 2-3 times until it changes to start spot you are at. it decides the stop you're closest to should be the end of the route. and the point furthest away the start point(as shown at 2:15) also at 7:30 just walk to the actual start point because you were at the end point (as shown at 2:15)

The route started backwards, so you were at the end of the route when it was not tracking your distance. This has been an issue I’ve noticed a bit lately, where the end of the route is the start and you have to reverse twice to get it to correct.

From my experience, Mateo has always been on the first route of the day I do. He doesn't always visually appear next to the gym/stop but I can tap on it once I've walked around 60% of the route and the cutscene will trigger. If I end the route early (first route of the day) without interacting with Mateo, I never see him for the rest of the day. Just a buggy feature all round.

Your first route wasn’t glitched, you were in reverse. It’s true that the feature was terrible at launch, but since more than a month, I’ve had no problems with it and I do at least 5 routes and sometimes 8 every day

I have heard that when the final stop on the route is a gym, you have to click on the gym to get Mateo to appear. I've just been making sure to choose routes where the final stop is a regular pokestop and not a gym.

Thanks for the heads up about canceling that first route! Just a note, I've had to reload up to 4 times to get Mateo. But, yes, routes are totally messed up. Oh, and, a TAIL(?) is not a CAT. Still don't quite believe you, want proof - show us the CAT already.

The reverse direction is “sticky”, I noticed. Play close attention to which direction the route is going because your location might be at the end of the route that was created

I did a route on Friday, the first of the day, and Mateo didn't appear at the end. So it's not guaranteed that Mateo will turn up at the end of the first route of the day. What they have said is that Mateo will turn up once (not twice) a day. You only have been lucky that you have encountered him at your first route each day.

In regards to route: glitch exists you have to ensure the arrow is going the right way. In regards to Mateo he does not always appear click the stop where the route ends and he will always show up AT THE STOP

I use my daily incense and realized the route was backwards for some reason and I decided to just use my daily and walk to the "start point" and ended up doing the route in reverse when I had it set to not do it in reverse.

if the end of a route is a gym, matteo doesn't visually appear, you tap the gym as if you;re going to spin it and he interrupts like a grunt does at pokestops

It automatically reverses the route direction if you start it while you are near the end but you have to reverse direction twice to actually get it in reverse. Mateo isn't a guaranteed spawn on every route, he only shows up like 2/3 routes or so.

You have to check if the route is really on the way it's supposed to be, sometimes it shows the orange flag at the start of the route. If that happens, flip the way of the route a couple of times to get it right

I've also had a glitch that I was on a route, in a party, I did the force close thing to get the zygarde cell. Cell didn't pop up but it also threw away my daily incense before I used it. I believe if you have the incense already active, it'll still be going. So yeah, all these things still don't work together

I saw you about to quit the route and was shouting "Nooooooooooooo" The glitch is that it should automatically see which Pokestop you're wanting to start from, but it doesn't always do that

I think that there is another piece (one that I thought was pretty clear, but seems to be confusing to others)... You trade a gift with him that you got on the route. So, you HAVE TO GET a gift from a pokestop while walking the route to get Mateo.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the reason that Mateo does not appear on you first route of the day because: - you didn't get any gifts from pokestops when walking the route. If you're holding the max number of gifts, spinning pokestops won't give you a gift, meaning you have no "gifts from routes to train with Mateo"

I’ve tried to walk routes for the past three days and can’t get the route to work right. When the routes came to the game and when they expanded the availability of the routes for the first time. There was these two overlapping routes that I liked to do, because that way you could get cell from the return trip as well. But like your route here, one of the routes is bugged and is only available when you are far enough from it, basically forcing you to do it only in reverse. If you get into the starting point, the route vanishes even though two other routes in the same stop are visible. It has been like that for like the past month and a half at least.

The game clearly showed the route start point on the route selection map which Nick just clicked through. Even so, the game should handle this better. Until you get to the start point, only the start point flag should show. Or instead of a stupid color code of Blue and Red, you could have it labelled with Start and End. And then like Nick said, you shouldn't be locked out of Mateo and a Zygarde cell if you don't complete the route. There is no harm in letting Mateo spawn again if for some reason you decide not to the first time you see him. It just doesn't make sense.

As a few others said: your first route didn't started since u were at the end... a couple weeks/month ago they changed in (positive for players) that the route will set your start point closest to you , since the last or the before update this got buged somehow and they don't reverse automatically everytime anymore :/ ALTHOUGH what i haven't read , and may had help (sry that it is too late) , this is copied from the "Gift Exchange Known Issues" Page from Niantic Support: Mateo does not always appear at Gyms. The first time it didn't start the route because you were at the wrong end of the route. However, this wasn't your fault. About half of all the routes I start, want me to walk to the other end first to start it. There's no consistency when this happens and inverting the route has never made a difference for me. I'm still on step one of the research. Mateo has never spawned for me, because I always try the same thing you had: cancel the route and try again.

Try clicking on the gym or stop sometimes he doesn't pop on the map but if you click the end point (not complete route) he may pop up I noticed when I didn't see him and the end point was a gym

Hey Nick, next time instead of restarting the game, reverse the route direction. Then you would just have to walk back to start point and would encounter Mateo. Annoying still but not too bad if you notice the red instead of blue arrow right away.

I get your frustration, but it seems like you had the route started in reverse. You can see around 2:12 that your avatar is at the end point and the flag was red. It sucks that it doesn't automatically register where you are and suggest to reverse it, but I think that's what the problem was there.

My first route of the day wouldn't show the start and end flags. Did the route, no luck, either for zygarde cells or Mateo. My second route of the day, I saw flags, got a zygarde cell. No Mateo. This happened yesterday. And the day before. Some day they might figure it out.

First route attempt did not work because you started the reverse one. Start point is always blue. End point is always red. Hope this helps.

The flag on your first route was red where you stood, so that means end point. You probably did it in reverse at starting it.

Mateo doesn't even have to spawn on your first route of the day, some days ago Niantic support confirmed on twitter that he only has a chance to appear on the first route of the day. So yeah, this feature is pretty bad....

the reason the routers are spawning is because you didn't go to miles or the kilometers that's the road has specified if you don't go there but if you don't do that you would never get a sidecar yourself or see Mateo sorry for my broken English

2:20 u had the route in the opposite way started thats why the flag was red marking the end of the route not the start, so ur route was not bugged u not had noticed the other color of the icon no problem for that

In my prediction the grand award of the timeless special research is Origin form Palkia and Origin form Dialga at least one of two base on which pathway of the special research players choose. May be we had both as well. If Niantic make the Pokemon Go in more excited way we able to catch Arceus along provided a Master Ball that must need to use to catch Arceus and 25 Arceus candies as the final grand awards of this special research. Six free premium pass and one lucky egg this is fantastic and i can't complain. Really thank you Niantic.

I always have glitches starting a route where it doesnt want to reverse route correctly when i start the route. And i have to quit and restart route correctly. So this is why i havent seen matteo...
