It took me a while, but I finally understood the last case haha If x > 0, say, 4, y can be 0 and the equations will hold: 4 * 0 = 0^2. So C is wrong because x can be > 0 and y = 0 (y doesn't need to be > 0). However, if y < 0, say, -1, then x must be negative (= -1) so that x -y = -1 - (-1) = 0. Thanks!

If you had an issue understanding the logic behind the last choice of option D, then this might help. Y = 0 or x=y... these are the only two possibilities that make y(x-y) = 0 to be true. Recall that the question asks which one statement must be true (in the options). Statement 1: "If x>0, then y > 0", it says assuming x is bigger than zero then y would be bigger than 0 too. That holds true for the part x = y but then y may be 0 still because of the second possibility. But "if y

Quick Comment: For the third problem you showcased I was wavering between answer choice C and D. I noticed that if we choose y=-4 than x=-4 for the primary equation to be sound. for instance we can't have y=-4 and x=4 because then xy will not equal y^2. In this case, it proves answer choice D. Is this a smart way to go about solving this problem?

Sir, ab=bc, which answer do I have to choose? This is a QC question if b=0, so both quantities are equal. The answer to this question is C. Let me know, please?.
@nnaemekacephas5931
@nnaemekacephas5931 11 ай бұрын
Consider the case where b=0, a=10, c= -1 and the case where b=0, a=10, c=10. You will notice that a and c can take any value you choose and the equation would still hold true so long as you make b = 0. The first case means that 3a is greater than 3c, while the second case means that 3a equals 3c. So that's option D
