Don't Follow the Current of the World

While I was serving as the president of Brigham Young University-Idaho, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland came to the campus in December 1998 to speak in one of our weekly devotionals. Susan and I invited a group of students to meet and visit with Elder Holland before he delivered his message. As our time together was drawing to a close, I asked Elder Holland, “If you could teach these students just one thing, what would it be?”
He answered:
“We are witnessing an ever greater movement toward polarity. The middle-ground options will be removed from us as Latter-day Saints. The middle of the road will be withdrawn.
“If you are treading water in the current of a river, you will go somewhere. You simply will go wherever the current takes you. Going with the stream, following the tide, drifting in the current will not do.
“Choices have to be made. Not making a choice is a choice. Learn to choose now.”
Elder Holland’s statement about increasing polarization has been proven prophetic by the societal trends and events of the 22 years since he answered my question. Foretelling the widening divergence between the ways of the Lord and of the world, Elder Holland warned that the days of comfortably having one foot in the restored Church and one foot in the world were vanishing quickly.
This servant of the Lord was encouraging the young people to choose, prepare, and become devoted disciples of the Savior. He was helping them to prepare and press forward to and through the proving, examining, and trying experiences of their lives.

I left the church for about 6yrs got into heavy alcohol abuse and gambling then got into a big car accident under the influence of alcohol and to this very day I know my Heavenly Father kept me alive, i returned to church not long after and got my temple reccomend now im 2nd councilor to our bishop in our ward. Thank you Heavenly Father for saving me ❤🙏

I'm glad your back. I left too, because of an unrighteous bishop who judge me for my past life. I have learned that no earthly human being has the right to judge another when they walk imperfectly. Now I am in an Elders quorum role, teaching, working with church welfare and family history work , Temple work. I would have lost all that because of pride, if didn't come back.

Unfortunately, our three have left the church. They do have the seed planted, I I pray each day that they will come back. I know my husband n I need to continue to have the strength, courage, Faith, n Testimony of the true church for them to return.

We need to have the resolve of Daniel and his three friends. See Daniel 1:8 and 3:13-18. And we need to start choosing that resolve NOW. Men in the past and present didn't bench press 600lb without first pressing 200lb. Start NOW. Don't worry about what will happen in the future when the sword is at your throat and you have to choose then and there. Make the choice to follow God NOW. And be resolute and resilient. He will honor that, even if He doesn't choose to miraculously save us at that moment. I believe this.

I used to give credence to a certain Atheistic argument/point. Often, I would here said "If you really need to tell God to tell you something as obvious as 'not to murder someone' are you really a moral person?" And for a long time I didn't know how to answer that question/accusation. But look at the world now, many people without the guidance of Christ in their life are so utterly lost. Not even being able to recognized their eternal identity as a male or female! The answer to the previous question is obvious, Yes! Every good thing comes from Christ! And there is no knowing it without Him.

Stop “eating from the wrong tree”... Stop listening to outside voices. Start listening only to His voice...on the inside. Only God can lead you to the right tree. If you listen...really listen...you Will hear....His voice. Then only do what He tells you to do. That and only that is the narrow path you have read about. Do not rely on your own decision making. I think I know what he means, and so do other viewers. It would be helpful if he was more blunt about which side to be on without fear of offending half of the current church membership - kinda like Samuel the Laminate. Having said that, I would never criticize the church leaders. I imagine the day will come when they will have to be more blunt. I can’t wait for that day!

Several years ago I divided the church funds by the number of church members. It was somewhere between 2k and 3k. The church is doing what it counsels each member to do - set aside something for hard times. Do you have 2k or 3k set aside?
