You saved my life! I've just bought one of those dupings on Amazon, but I could cancel the order before being dispatched. As I waited for my refund, I took a closer look to spot the difference. This dupe wouldn't even mention the author's name. There was anything related to her. I found the real one, with all the information, as the serial number, release date and a reference for the author. Thank you so much for your help and sorry you had a bad experience =/

Thank you!! I bought one from a VERY large seller on eBay. The box was smaller than the photos and the booklet was completely illegible, printed in a font no bigger than 2 points! It was clearly a dupe, or in this case surely copyright infringement? Reported to eBay who said it was not in violation! Incredible! Should have paid to return postage but I insisted the seller also refund this cost. Not paying for a fake! Your video ticked all the boxes, so thank you!

I’m new to blanket yarn. I’m working my first blanket with ripple pattern. I usually do amigurumi and acrylic yarn works best for me, though I’m finding I like light weight yarn for more of my projects over medium. I’m looking forward to watching your granny squares videos. From what I can tell the dupe cards are squares from The Granny Square Source Book. if anyone wants to find those there's a free pdf to download on google and it has all of those cards and more with written instructions and charts with all of the yarn they use, special stitches, and how to crochet them all at the front. I think it's hilarious that they give you the color names of the yarn on the dupe deck but not the brand name so you'll never be able to find what was actually used lol

Another tell tale sign the first box was counterfeit, is the LACK of UPC code on the back. ANYTHING that is registered for sale, these days, EXCEPT hand made goods (and sometimes even those) have UPC codes on them somewhere. That is so they company can track the money, where it goes, and who needs to be paid. No UPC code means there is nothing to track. Unless I know I'm buying something handmade, I don't buy stuff without a UPC code (with the sole exception being yard sales and thrift stores).

It is up to us as the consumer to do our research and due diligence when purchasing. It is also up to us to make THE REAL Makers of these cards aware that they are being copyright violated. If we don’t tell them they will take a long time to become aware.

Not condoning the duping … but you gotta give it to whoever did the dupe. Lots of work, especially given that the original wasn’t even on the market. How are the granny squares on the dupe? Are they doable? 😅 a comparison between the two would be cool to see if you have the time.

it's literally just a simple bot dupe. didn't take more than five minutes. AI patterns, dupes, bots make stuff like this really easy.

They copied the booklet and designs from things like the Granny Square Source book rather than Claire’s own ones (I know Claire and I took the fake to her and she was mortified and really upset that so many of us got duped) x

The crooks have achieved a new low in counterfeiting crafting materials. On the bright side, it tells me a lot of people must be engaged in using crafting materials to make it a profitable pursuit for criminals and that’s a good sign for crafters.

Well, I see I was not the only person who was defrauded by unscrupulous people. I not only ended up with two fakes, but I am awaiting my true copy from the UK. As my first two orders are unwilling to be reversed, I am currently disputing the churches. My third order is coming from the UK itself, by recommendation of Claire herself. Can’t wait to get it. The original gives detailed instructions for each type of stitch used throughout the deck. Each card has the diagram on the back of the picture with all the stitches.

What I think happens. These companies legit make the product for the real business. Then, they make a similar product because they have all the information needed to dupe it. So they do. But they make subtle changes like cheap materials. I worked for a jewelry company that had a China company making their jewelry designs. The manufacturer said this after receiving the new design “can’t wait to copy this and sell”. 😮 Wow. The nerve.

They didn’t produce the ones that Claire made they stole from other designers and then put her name on it it’s so frustrating - the little “dooklet/booklit” even had the foreword from the granny square source book - from different designers - Claire the author actually teaches my little boy to crochet and even I was duped so I was able to show her the fake copy and she said that if anyone has been duped if you’ve paid through PayPal to complain through them - I got a full refund and the more people do it the more it flags up the company.

Publisher is on backorder, not available at Barnes & Noble within a 100 mi. radius of me. Both offering the set for $19.99. Amazon is showing it for $27.74 so I think anyone going to Amazon for this needs to be wary. Just my opinion.

I read a crochet blog where the author endorsed an affiliate link for the tan handle soft touch Clover hook. I clicked the link and it took me to a store with the knock off soft touch hooks. I knew the difference from experience with Clover brand, but I bet others fell for it.

I ordered 2 large dog beds from an ad on social media. They were so small! My dogs couldn’t fit in them. Definitely not like the photo! The company offered to give me 5% of my money back BUT I would have to ship them. That would cost over $100! I disputed the charge, sent photos, etc. My credit card reimbursed me! Interesting video! Please contact your bank and ask for a charge back. Explain the circumstances, there is a good chance of getting your money back. I bank with Chase and I have got my money back after purchasing online an item which was not as described. If you paid by credit card, ditto, ask to start a charge back.

Why in the world would you need them? A granny square is one of the easiest things to crochet. Just go on KZbin to get variations. You don't need to waste money buying a box of granny cards.
