Don't Give Up on The Minecraft Movie

The trailer for the long awaited Minecraft Movie has finally dropped and... it's not looking good. Between questionable casting, fans wondering why it's a live action movie, and terrible costumes, A Minecraft Movie might be dead on arrival. But I'm here to convince you otherwise...

About time someone says it, the movie may look awful but I already see all the youtuber reviewers calling it "terrible" and I'm just like aint yall meant to review the movie after it comes out?

I'm just happy for the one commenter, who's excited to watch the movie with their spouse and child. At least those people might have some simple fun with the movie, regardless of how good the movie is. I think MineCraft as a movie would struggle even without the isekai'd humans. Jack Black's presence and dialogue will attach a specific personality to Steve, which messed a bit with the fact that Steve is one of the most direct player self-inserts I can think of. The only thing that doesn't make Steve an everyman is appearance - he looks like a bearded, brown-haired, purple-eyed, darker-skinned man. Hence, it's probably why Alex, a lighter-skinned, ginger woman, was added later on as a player avatar. But there is no dialogue, or internal narration, no personality to really gleam. And because MineCraft offers so much room for crafting your own personality for the protagonist(-s), giving Steve a chatacter and voice of _any_ kind will feel like this is what is the "canon" version of the character to many. Which is an uh-oh! Maaaaaybe a movie without any dialogue between the humanoids characters, outside grunts and gestures could work? But, eh. I wish it branched out past trying to hyper-realism pixelated designs... If they want this to be a "humans in a game world" story so bad, keep the game's blockiness. Make them clip into mobs. Make leaves feel as solid as stone. Make every item have a set amount of uses. Alas, that is not the case. Neither is the animated movie exploring a unique pixelated art style of any kind. We'll see how it goes.

I propose that we all start buying tickets for animated movies to show middle finger to Warner Bros and other large corporations. We need to show them that we are fed up with treating animations as a genre for kids and constantly making live action films even for stories that should be animated. Perhaps after seeing how, for example, Transformers One earns much more money than Minecraft movie, they will learn to treat animation and animators with respect they deserve. If we work together, we can make it happen. Remember that we forced Mojang to get rid of the mob vote and also forced Paramount to change Sonic's design.

It could have even worked as a silent movie with steve and alex, or even just one of them. Also I think live action could work if it was fully live action, like real world environments with minecraft logic. the only blocks being the things the characters place.

if they do this or make it animated like the trailers (or anything but live action WB PLEASE), then there is NO chance I'm NOT going to see it. otherwise, 50/50. prob will depend on how im feeling that day.

I really like this perspective, I'm hopeful for the movie. My first time watching it I was a but put off, but then I watched it again along with mumbo's video on it and I've come to like it. It's nice to see a video that isn't 100% negative :3

I think live action was pretty cool, maybe it was part of the story or smth. But I think if JackBlack was going to be Steve they should've animated him atleast.
