Vlog of the weekend!
EVEN MORE BAGELS!
I keep wondering if I am doing well, especially if I find it hard one day...
A fun filled weekend even though I cried. Also, I don't even know why I get worked up about certain things. But the more you challenge, the more you realise you NEED to challenge, and then the more life you see there is that you have to live!
What is your favourite thing to do at the weekend?

As your mum said you’re half the size of Alisha so of course you need to eat more than her!! But you’re so brave to keep going after that little mini blip. Your progress in the last few weeks is so incredibly inspiring and I know you’ll continue to inspire so many people who are also trying to recover. You’re so brave Elzani I feel so connected to your journey and it really lifts my spirits to see you getting stronger and more lively with every video. You have such a wonderful personality and you’re so beautiful you deserve nothing but the best ❤️❤️

Elzani's Mum you are absolutely amazing, it actually makes me want to cry how lovely you are. I had an anorexic sister growing up, she was in and out of hospital my whole childhood so I know what it's like, it is incredibly difficult to watch someone you love live with anorexia. No one sees the tears behind closed doors when everyone has gone to bed and you lay there praying they make it through the night. Your patience and love is truly beautiful. Elzani you are amazing too and so strong. You're easily my fav KZbinr and I am so excited to watch your recovery xx P.S I cry all the time too and I'm not even unwell lol xx don't worry about it.

I've noticed how, whenever you have a "breakdown," which is REALLY merely an expression of emotion, the things you say to yourself are PRECISELY the things you ought to say...aside from, "I'm annoying everyone," because I think you know (in your heart) if annoyances exist in your family members, it's at the illness, not YOU. Things like; "It doesn't matter who eats what," "I need to stop comparing myself to others," "I NEED to eat loads," "It's ok," "I'm just gonna relax because I should calm down." You KNOW what to do & how to think & I'm quite LITERALLY (& quite privileged to be able to be😉) watching you retrain & reframe your thinking & your self-talk. You are NOT annoying, you are a brave, thoughtful, caring, considerate, positive, uplifting, dedicated, STRONG young lady who has set her mind to changing & improving her life & overcoming an EXTREMELY powerful illness that she is REFUSING to give up on or allow to take her life. Tell yourself THAT in your weak & vulnerable moments because not only do you DESERVE recovery, but you're FIGHTING for it, EARNING it, & WINNING this battle each & every day❣ Elzani, you ARE doing this...don't EVER doubt that! ❤❤❤

You need to stop comparing your portions to the people around you. Your family are trying to maintain their weight or maybe even lose a few pounds, they are eating for their own goals! You need to focus on you and what you want out of life, you need to gain weight so you need to eat more than everyone around you, a lot more, if your going to achieve your goals! Don’t compare to those around you compare to yourself yesterday, your competing with yourself and your Ed not anyone else. Your doing so amazing and I love how you include the good and the bad in your vlogs ❤️ your a beautiful strong boss ass lady and your going to kick this Ed’s butt xxxxxxx

Hello Elzani I hope you see my comment, I just wanna tell you how important your videos are to me, I’m 22 and have been struggling with EDs since I was 15. Anyway, I want you to know I ALWAYS eat watching your videos, it makes me feel a bit more brave to watch you eat so I eat with you, I think “this girl is so strong for making her way to recovery, and also sharing that story with the world” so you give me strength because I feel like I’m with someone who understands how it’s like, take care and continue to your goal of recovery, you can do it!!

Always remember hunger is a dynamic thing. There is no rule about snacks being bigger than main meals. It’s about the needs of the body and in a healthy individual they will change with illness/injury/pregnancy obviously for a woman, movement exercise, hormonal changes etc. Feeding your body at this time is going to be different to anyone else’s because you are healing, recovering and need nourishment so very much. The best thing I was ever told was my happiness is an inside job; if we validate ourselves with acceptance and self-love we have a more consistent way of feeling peace rather than relying on others or comparing ourselves to others because it’s too variable and subjective. I love your vlogs. They are so grounded, real and profoundly inspiring. Keep fighting warrior. You are a beautiful light on this earth. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Crying is good. It releases negative emotions instead of bottling them up. And, it means you are pushing your pushing your limits because if you are crying, you are out of your comfort zone and hence you are progressing. It doesn't matter how slow you think you are progressing either, as long as you are moving forward. And sometimes we don't think we are moving forward but maybe write a list of things you did/ate/wouldn't eat when you were at your worst and last year and compare them to now. Focus on how far you have come and not how far you have to go. Also, I'm jealous of your family! It's so hard to do this on one's own! But then again I don't have the relationship with my mum as you have with yours, which is my fault not hers though. I just find it hard to open up, so never apologise for talking about it a lot to the point that you believe you are annoying your family because I'm sure they appreciate the fact that you can. As well as the fact that they are more than likely not as annoyed as you think, like your mum said.

you are doing your best, and that is all anyone can do. you deserve to be so proud of yourself. you are fighting an illness that is trying to take your life, and a shouting voice in your head that you gave in to for so long. that is divine, to say the least, and no easy feat. you are not the bad person your mind says you are. every hard hurdle takes you one step closer to the other side of this. "no rain, no flowers." keep trying, brave heart. we are all here beside you. ps. your mum deserves an award. she is such a sweet support. please tell her i say thankyou. she is a role model for other parents, just like you are a role model for others trying to get better. we will all get there, it just takes time. be patient and gentle with yourself. i send my love. x

You ARE doing great! It's not about not ever having a hard time or worse days. It's about getting over them and back on track, which is what you continuously do. And you seem to do it faster every time and that's what really counts! Some people say they still have occasional ED thoughts after years of being fully recovered, they just don't act on them and so they don't get any stronger and go away quickly. You are still in a very early stage of recovery, you shouldn't even expect yourself to not have ED thoughts. It's not realistic, so don't beat yourself because of that. Just notice them, fight them, move on. You got this, there's absolutely no doubt about it anymore! What I would recommend, if you don't already do it, is to think what makes you struggle more on some days. Is it really the amount or types of food you eat? Or maybe, did you sleep worse or were you generally more tired or stressed about something? Do you notice any time pattern (hormones swaying - they are there even if there's not enough for normal function)? Were there triggers that weren't there on good days, and could you start processing your way through them? Much love. :) (Mum, you are amazing. I want to be like you if I ever have kids.)

Do some positive affirmations in the morning and at night.. I WILL GET BETTER I AM WORTH IT I AM BEAUTIFUL I CAN DO THIS.. A lot of what we do in life annoys other people. I'm sure your family annoys you at times. They can't do much about that and neither can you, you just have to get on with life and recovery. Your mum is SO GREAT! Every time you ask "is this too much" (aloud or in your head) and then you're like WHATEVER and eat anyway, you're chipping away at the eating disorder and winning.

Your mum speaks so much sense. There really is no too much right now. You NEED to get yourself to a healthy weight before your brain can catch up SO you may aswell do it on foods that you actually enjoy? Do you want to get to a recovered stage but still be avoiding lots of different foods? Or try them along the way and face the fears so they are no longer fears xxx

Recovery is never an easy path, but I believe that it's so worth it. It's incredibly hard to overcome your ED thoughts and break the rules that your mind has made. But we have to understand that this is the price we have to pay in order to have not only a healthy body but also a healthy mind and relationship with ourselves. There might be times where you think you can't do it anymore, but, Elzani, please never give up. You'll be so grateful that you fought this battle in the future. Stay strong, lots of love xx

You’re doing great Elzani, I have AN too and i know how much it affects the whole family. I’m a twin too so I’ve always have that comparison, my sister is quite like Alicia and encourages me to eat more things (sometimes plating it up for me) which can be super challenging and makes me get angry but really it’s the ED getting angry as it feels threatened. My twin and I are so close and I think she just gets frustrated with the illness, it affects the whole family and I always feel super guilty for that. My Mum is like yours though and I don’t know what I’d do without her. Your Mum is amazing, she really listens to you and gives you time to express how you’re feeling. Well done on the chips despite not wanting them. Do you think it felt bad to eat them as the environment wasn’t ‘perfect’ so it felt like a waste? I noticed when you were eating them your sisters were quite loud and not really paying attention, plus it seemed very stressful for you to have them. Maybe you could practice some mindfulness before mealtimes and after so that you’re not constantly thinking and talking about food. Remember we need so much more than our family who are healthy, keep reminding yourself of this. You’re unwell, they’re not so you need extra medicine to get well. It doesnt make you greedy and nothing is ever too much. We’ve been starving ourselves for so long that now our bodies are just wanting to eat everything and it’s overwhelming. I’ve reached weight restoration once before I had this relapse and when I started to eat, food is alllll I thought about. After a good while though of eating properly I remember sitting outside in the garden and realising my mind wasn’t so preoccupied with food anymore and I felt more satisfied after eating. In the beginning I felt like I was eating so much but my consultant said to eat whatever I fancy and lots of it! Then my body began to trust me I guess and wasn’t always crying out for food so I became less preoccupied. This will happen to you too! The body is such an amazing thing, anything you eat now won’t be wasted whether you like it or not, it will all help to get your life back! It doesn’t always have to be perfect, even if you didn’t enjoy it it’s still energy and goodness for your body so how can that be a waste? nobody loves every single thing they eat. Focus on the long term and what you want and as you say, you have to get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable. If you feel uncomfortable you’re probably doing it right, it won’t last forever. Think of how your life would be if you listened to AN? And what it could be if you didn’t? I’m doing well with my recovery now since Christmas although I still have slip ups. As long as you’re moving forwards then that’s ok. I think it’s better to change myself, even if it results in a breakdown as at least I’ve done it and can move forwards. By not challenging ourselves we’re just stuck. This comment is super long but I just wanted to send you some encouragement and to keep going! You’re inspiring me to try so many new things! I had some dark milk on Sat and loved it! Xxxx

Now, repeat after me: You is smart, You is kind, You is important. BIG BIG hug all the way from South Africa xx

you're so beautiful and watching you progress in these videos shows how strong you are!! of course there will be little bumps, recovery is never a smooth road. but every time you conquer each little breakdown, you come out stronger. i believe in you and i'm excited for you and your future! on a side-note, you are the only other person i've heard who says cauliflower tastes like fish... i have ALWAYS said that! but nobody ever agrees! haha

Elzani, the stronger you become and fight against the horrible anorexic voice the angrier and louder it may become, it’s scared that it’s losing you so will scream and shout as much as possible in an attempt to get you to run back to it. Keep fighting, push through the wall and act against negative thoughts- keep proving to your ED that you are so much stronger and deserve a life far more amazing and fulfilling. Also, one thing that gets me through is remembering that YOUR BODY DOES NOT, I REPEAT NOT, DIGEST OR METABOLISE FOOD ANY DIFFERENTLY IF THOSE AROUND YOU EAT LESS THAN YOU. You can do this 💪🏻💕

You have a great mom! And sometimes its okay to be not hard for yourself. Ther is always a new day. If one day does not work. Its always a progress, only if you keep trying the next day. Remember you are only human. Its okay to have a little bit of fear. Aslong as it does not controle your life, and from what I can see, you are learning to master it. And it is something not everyone can say. Keep on trying! You have lots who believe in you, so you can allow to believe in yourself, and keep trying 😚💪

You are doing wonderfully well. Please don’t torture yourself with thoughts that something you ate was massive or too much or even not as much as whoever. You need every bit you can get and it’s bringing you your life back with every bite. You are very brave and lovely.

Mumzani! That's my first memory of Nutella too☺️ We used to get it from the sweet shop in a tiny tub for 10p ( It was the 80's) , I think it came with a tiny spatula too because we just ate it out of the tub on the way home😄
