If you’re exclusively playing unmatched as a board game, and your minis are all unpainted, yeah it’s expensive. As someone who buys and paints minis in other areas of the tabletop space, I’d say $4.35 a mini is the low side of average. Also, the original Eastman and Laird tabletop RPG got dug up and kickstarted like a year or less ago, and these would be great for that. I’m arguably more excited about the extra toppings than anything.

Good point! We play a ton of miniature games as well and in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t seem too bad. But I think the majority of people backing the KS are backing it for Unmatched. Or backing it because it’s a TMNT board game they can play. But of course you can use the minis for other things. That’s cool stuff.

I think the best deal gameplaywise is $80 pack + villain deck. Other things are nice quality of life/superfan stuff. Altough I’d like to have matching component(acrylic mouser/rat tokens because footsoliders are acrylic), I can’t justify the price of deluxe component add-on.

Thanks for making this video! When it first announced on monday I was pretty damn exited and was low-key genuinely thinking about the full deal, but with these kinds of things you definitely have to sleep on it for a while so you ACTUALLY know what you want and what you're buying. All amazing points you made, you've really helped inform my decision. I'll probably just get the $5 backing option so I can still have access to the alt-art cards, while being able to wait for some updates on the dev-team's side

Agreed. I'm definitely backing the core game at the extra 2 hero decks. And I might go in for the extra toppings just to have all the really cool extra villain miniatures, (i recognise all the characters and am really suprised they went with wingnut and Leatherhead) but I can't see buying the neoprene mat or the Deluxe components. If for no other reason, then all those 3D miniature foot soldiers are gonna make the board really full and hard to see around. Edit: yay voice to text..... Edit 2: don't forget it's gonna be $100 for the 2 witcher boxes soon....

​@@familyofgamers777 Anyone in this thread sophisticated enough with miniature appraisals to help me understand why the Extra Toppings add-on is so expensive? I get that the license is some of that cost, but I'd hate to think its a premium markup just because Restoration wants a big profit margin.... This extra mini's add-on is the coolest surprise add-on for the KS (not counting Shredder and Krang hero decks because their existence was revealed a few days prior) and I'm bummed how expensive it is.

a lot of people complains about the all in package even if they dont really care about the additional stuff. I think the $80 package is fair even if you add in the villain deck, if the villain decks are really well made, has cool mechanics and are tested really well which makes it a 6 hero set. 2 marvel sets costs the same but without the coop gameplay.

That is a great point. But I also think the Marvel sets were way too overpriced. $10 more for one less hero is insane. Same with the Witcher sets coming out soon. They’re $50 each. I think it’s all overpriced. I mean I could buy a Witcher set and the next Muhammad Ali Vs Bruce Lee set for about the same price. But I will say $80 is HORRIBLE considering you’re also getting stretch goals. But even then I’m sure it’ll retail for $80 which stinks.

Absolutely. I think that’s a high price. But looking past the fact that it’s $70 for 16 minis, it’s $70 for 16 minis and that’s it. Not even adding anything else for gameplay. That’s kinda my biggest gripe with it.

I hate those KS that makes you have to buy more stuff because youll be missing parts of the game without it. These minis are just intended for those who "really" want to get it and I'm glad that I don't have to.

Thinking about it on a different side, games like Zombicide have exclusives locked behind kickstarters that make it hard to get months/years down the track. What i see here is the game will always be the same gameplay experience, the only difference with kickstarting is it looks different. I like this way.

Honestly I’d rather have more gameplay for more money. Zombicide second edition base game is $110 with 25 missions. Base game for this is $80 for 2 missions. I’m also not 100% sure if the pack of minis for $70 is a KS exclusive or if it’ll be sold for retail afterwards.

@@familyofgamers777 pack of minis will be sold at retail as well as the decks. The only KS exclusives are the mat, delux tokens, coin, sleeves, foil cards, and alt cards.

@@juzaspex89 I agree. I also like it this way. My first board game was Arcadia Quest from CMON and I never looked back to CMON games because in my experience If you miss their KS then you will really miss out.

Im also disappointed because of the huge price difference. Exactly as you said going from 60$ which was the previous full add on adventure to 80$ for the standard is a big price difference for me. What i will do is wait for launch to find it on discount or even buy it used.

The Villain deck for 20 dollars is ridiculous. They sell licensed sets for 50 for 3 characters plus minis plus board. 60 cards only for 20 bucks crazy. If they at least had minis for the hero deck I would be happy. So I'm upset about that

One thing you didn’t mention is that the sleeves aren’t even included in the all-in pledge. It doesn’t make sense to have an all-in pledge that’s not all in. The sleeves are actually something I’m interested in because the initiative deck gets shuffled a lot and my Tales to Amaze cards are getting a little faded. I guess at the end of the day, I’m having trouble swallowing doubling the price of the main game for purely cosmetic upgrades. I’m not immune to splurging on Kickstarter but that combined with how cheap their last game was is making me hesitate.

Honestly I didn’t even notice that the sleeves don’t come with the all in pledge. So it’s not even all in. That really stinks. But for me I still will get the stuff in order to play the game. I’ve never been too crazy into sleeves or cosmetic upgrades.

@@familyofgamers777 sleeves are worth it for me since I like protecting the cards and they feel nice to shuffle. Honestly, I’ll probably end up getting it all anyways because I have massive FOMO, I just need the next 18 days to process how much money I’m about to throw out. 🙃

You can get generic `mini euro` sleeves that fit the initiative cards for a lot cheaper. I have the gamegenic 'mini euro' sleeves and they work great for the initiative cards, and also for Titania's Glamours (Slings & Arrows set)

@@sideswipe2615 in the bgg website there is a sleeves tab for each games that tells you the size that you need. You can look up the TTA set to see the initiative card sizes. They just word it that way but they mentioned that it is not included. I do not see anyone using their sleeves because it blocks the good art on the card a little bit. nothing really to be bummed about

Not sure. But on the KS page it says something about the original price being $110. So it could be that. Or it might be $80 and the other price is for the stretch goals too. Not 100% sure

Its a shame that they are choosing to make that the KS pledge extra instead of the premium tokens and foot soldiers (also valued at $30) I also really don't care about the extra card art.

You hit the nail on the head with that one. I 100% agree. Like the last Kickstarter we got upgraded tokens for mothman and Martian invader. Alternate art cards dont really do it for me. If they do nothing for gameplay, then I don’t care.

They said on their discord that retail will also be 80 dollars. I've seen "hoping to ship by September 2025". So probably not in stores till 2026

While I am not getting the super deluxe xl, I can definitely see the appeal. I think that you are definitely overreacting a little bit, but I think that it ultimately comes down to preference. It might not be for you, but for others it is a great deal. Compared to other board games, it is not a half bad deal if that’s what you want

We play a lot of miniature games on the channel here and I would honestly prefer to do the all in pledge. I love miniatures and especially for one of my favorite games AND it’s TMNT. Sign me up… not for that price though. I look at other games that have miniature packs and they add gameplay with the minis. These miniatures don’t. That’s the part that’s frustrating for this.

Most board games, miniature games, tabletop games etc. come with unpainted miniatures. It is pretty rare to find a game with prepainted minis. Street Fighter and Rayman do have minis that are already painted. But painting miniatures is a part of the hobby as well. Which adds another layer of fun to it.

Plus in the rare case that board games do offer painted minis , the painted mini version is substantially more expensive than non painted.that being said you don’t really have to the paint the minis if you don’t want to, it really is player preference. Some enjoy the extra immersion with painted minis and some are just fine playing unpainted .

I agree that it is pretty standard. But those minis you don’t NEED. They’re optional for gameplay. At the end of the day you are only using 4 characters and 2 villains. I just don’t think it’s worth it if it doesn’t add anything to the gameplay.

The pricing is high, but your claim that there are "only two missions" doesn't make sense - did you only play Tales to Amaze twice (once against Mothman; once against the Martian Invader) and then declare that you'd "finished" the game? The point is to play it with different rosters of minions (even if you play a four-player match each time you'll have to play at least twice with each villain to see all the minions with both of them) and/or players using different members of the TMNT, and that's before even considering that an awful lot of backers will own other Unmatched sets that they'll want to mix and match characters between. (I mean, I've played Tales to Amaze 12 times and I'm nowhere near feeling like I've "completed" the game.)

My first impression of the campaign was similar. I don't think there's great value in the all-in pledge. Also, being from Canada the exchange rate easily adds 35% or more to the total cost. Sadly, without knowing if the villains-as-heroes decks will be available at retail, I think I'll be stuck pledging for the base game and those at a minimum. I already have both versions of the IDW game, but TMNT in Unmatched is sort of a 'must have' for my game shelf at this point. I guess I'll chalk it up to FOMO.

Just backed the Cyberpunk core for $140 and that core game and strech goal box is a ton of minis and 25 missions plus a module to extend the game after you are done with its campaign to endlessly play it. The value for this unmatched set is dumb.

Cancelled my all in pledege. Too insulted to get the base pledege. Just bought Deep rock galactic deluxe edition, Undauted Calisto and Welcome to the moon with shipping from UK to Sweden for the same amount.
