Good and balanced view! As someone who wanted to do masters but couldn’t afford it, I really doubt I could see myself going back for it. The independence, stability, and security once you start working mean you must really have a good reason to move back into academia. Then again, maybe it’s a good move for someone who needs a mental reset and a reassessment of what is important to them… hmmmm, maybe I should do my masters…. 🤔

TOTALLY ON BOARD!!! NOW A DAYS LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE STUDYING A MASTERS right out of college. Sadly they end up studying a master that has nothing to do with the industry they work in.
@ChemicalEngineeringGuy3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that sometimes happens... I really see a lot of ChemE going to fields which are pretty niche and never end up in those fields

Great video as per usual Emmanuel! Speaking from the UK, the incentive for students to do a masters in Chem Eng is there because it is the easiest way to get accredited by IChemE, but your options are still very applicable! 👍 👍
@ChemicalEngineeringGuy3 жыл бұрын
I see! I really think Master degree culture in Germany-France-UK is really favored. Its quite easy to get those and many engineers will go for them

I get your point and I was totally going to work right after finishing my degree next year, but then my professor told me that doing a master abroad will differentiate me from other candidates. So I don´t really know what to do😅

The problem is that it is not easy to find job these days because of the pandamic so it easier to complete your master then after the pandamic end, u can search for a job
@ChemicalEngineeringGuy3 жыл бұрын
True, this applies mostly before the pandemic... I don't really know how bad is the job market now... Good thing is that there are many remote jobs now, you can be working in places that you would never think of before just because you need to move or something

Hi, I’m about to graduate my Bachelors in Chem Eng and I am so stuck on what to do next. Your video gave me more clarity and I’m starting to consider gaining some work experience before jumping straight into the masters as I have no idea on what I like to do. I’m unsure how some people are so sure on what field they want to do so I need to figure it out.

Great discussion Emmanuel. It is very important students understand that title, by itself, will not give you nothing 😅. Companies want results. Stay alert to keep proving yourself with short training in order to really be good on your job. After 2 or 3 years, your Master can be interesting to rank you by RH department. As Emmanuel said, there is no wrong answer. 😇 That's why be aware of yourself and your goals is the basis for a succesful career 😄
@ChemicalEngineeringGuy3 жыл бұрын
Hey there Jeferson! Thanks for your input! For sure, results are KEY for a great career!

I think it is harder to get a job when you have a masters but no relevant experience. Maybe you will start one position higher but there is little companies that wont risk it.

Yeah, here in Mexico things for ChemE’s are quite tough as there are not many graduate offers. I am pretty excluded being a last semester student, it seems like industry wants people to work since 4th semester or something like that (I fd up looking for work as late as 7th). I don’t know how long I may be unemployed, so I am planning on starting a Master’s while looking for work. What do you think? Being a master’s degree student could change something for bad at a hiring process?
@ChemicalEngineeringGuy3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alberto, there is a lot of work in ChemE in Mexico, especially in "big cities" but you need to be open to work there and pay is relatively low in the first years... If you don't get a nice offer with a relevant experience in the field you want to go, a Masters is always good, but I would try to land a job first

Hello, I am a chemical engineering graduate. I want to learn and practice ASPEN Plus properly, so I can design and optimise any process or plant by myself. Is it possible to increase plant efficiency or capacity using ASPEN Plus ? I wants to do something productive with ASPEN ...... And wants to work on some case study or real life problem. Can you guide how to approach from scratch to any problem in real life ? Thank you

Hi Akshat! Thats great, Aspen Plus is great and indeed, you can improve the plant efficiencies. There are lots of papers that use aspen plus for modeling, you should check them out

Hey, really great video. Did you study in Germany, right? So I'm a final year student in Chemical Engineering in Brazil and also had been to France for studying Process Engineering during 1 yr. I wanna work in Germany but gonna be easier if I get a MSc (3-4 semesters with industry's internship) before apply for some positions, right?
@ChemicalEngineeringGuy3 жыл бұрын
I went to Germany for 1year, a semester for study (TU Dresden) and semester to work in an internship (Ineos). And yes, to work in germany its way easier to study a master there, secure a great internship and hopefully get a job offer directly OR start looking for a job in the area, or even in the whole country. It should not be that hard :)

Hey, I just graduated with a BA in Psych and I honestly have no clue what to do. I'm not sure if I want to have a career in Psych either. I decided not to do my masters yet bc I didn't want to do it in something I wasnt sure of or wasnt gonna use. What should I do though? I was thinking of getting work experience but I dont know if I want to work in the psych field anymore, I guess I'm kind of burned out at the moment.

Actually the second scenario you described doesn’t happen. Reality is university education is garbage when it comes to transferable skills in job market. That’s because education system in universities focus more on theoretical than practical knowledge. The people who went to a 2 year college and entered the job market from starting positions progressed year after year learning on the job and getting promoted into sr managers, directors and the other people who went to university to study bachelors then masters then PhDs are now at their mercy. In most cases they won’t hire them because they are considered overqualified plus they won’t hire them because they don’t want to jeopardize their own positions and in most cases the higher educated people are more proud and not going to be easy to manage and exploit as working slaves.
@ChemicalEngineeringGuy Жыл бұрын
True, but it is also becoming the rule, that most process engineers with MSc will be treated like any other candidate with only a bachelor. It is truly no longer an advantage to have studied the masters
