+Steve Ramsey every project has "room" for tweeking. all comes down to how much fiddling you are willing to do with it...... there's so many places that could be tweeked out if you wanted to; would they actually "improve" it? that becomes highly subjective.... (should we get mathias to test how strong the lag-screw joints are? ;) )

Just a circular saw, a drill, and maybe a sander....and 2 clamps, and a speed square, and 2 sawhorses, and a hammer and chisel, and an impact driver, and a putty knife, and a wrench, and a paint roller, and screws and glue. lol just messing with ya, love your videos :P
@talleysuehohlfeld446
@talleysuehohlfeld446 5 жыл бұрын
true--but those aren't power tools (stuff like screws & glue are more "materials" than equipment). And if someone has a saw and a drill, they probably have a hammer. This shows how you can make a lap joint without a router or a table saw (and you could do rabbets this way as well, probably)

If you have a drill you don't need an impact driver
@talleysuehohlfeld446

anything he did with the impact driver, the rest of us can do with a drill. He only used it for speed. it doesn't negate his basic point.

This is the first time I've seen a circular saw used to cut out a whole section like that. This was inspiring! I have done a lot with just a saw and a drill (I discovered the pocket-hole jig, which does a lot for me)--this technique gives me even more ideas and more confidence.

Thanks for another great video Steve! I appreciate that you show your mistakes. And don't let the hair splitters get you down. They complain about the $50 sander and your outdoor workshop but then go sit in front of a $1,200 HDTV for the evening and play on a $600 cell phone and $400 gaming machine with $500 in accessories and games. All about priorities ;-)

Steve, my man. You have saved my life. After watching other videos of other people, who would use high fancy equipment to make their project, I decided to go with you. You work with simple tools, and explain things so simple that I have become one of your fan. This week I will start this bed project you have built. Let you know how it comes out. Muchas gracias and put more videos of how to build a 〜〜。

As someone who had a full woodworking shop many moons ago, I love the thought that I can indulge in one of my favorite hobbies living in a small townhouse! Thank you Steve. I also appreciate your transparency of showing us when you've made a mistake. So many times we know it's "measure twice, cut once" but in the creativity of the moment we tend to forget. I know this is an older video but I just want to say that I really appreciate this limited tools thing. So many "beginner" woodworking videos on youtube have planers and jointers, and tablesaws/bandsaws/etc/etc and having these videos makes woodworking so much more accessible to people who want to get into it and only have some cobbled together garage sale tools.

All you need is a drill, a circular saw, some coordination, wood, plans, patience to line all the wood up before critical cuts, a mattress sponsor, a place to cut/assemble. We are ready to go. (Oh yes, don't forget the Toy Story paint colors.) Even with the slip ups, this was a great design/build. Nice job. - Annie

Great idea for a small space. The paint colors look great as well. My favorite part of your channel is the fact that you don't confirm to the woodworking norms of staining every freaking thing. As of today this is my favorite limited tools project. Often times when people make limited tool projects its some trinkety, novelty, not terribly useful but still interesting thing. But this...this was a substantial piece of furniture that really has a practical use and a larger project to teach people that they can break the mold of novelty conversation pieces and make actual furniture. Good on ya

Thanks Steve. It's good to go back to basics as you have done initially - from the back of your truck, filling in detail that we wannabe makers wont know (such as "Kiln dried"). You do it right and it motivates, 'cause it shows that it really can be done by idiots like such as myself. Remember, most people dont beleive that they can do this sort of thing. They did not grow up tinkering or did not have a dad who showed them and taught them. All they had was TV. And all that TV teaches you is how to be a smart-ass. They see everything as specialized and so out of reach and above their competency level. A little bit of guidance such as this was what motivated me just over a year ago and it was from your vids. Now I am also reasonably following (understanding) all your other brothers in arms such as Jay Bates, Mathias Wandel, Jimmy Diresta, Izzy Swan etc. All of you guys, you really inspire. Thanks. PS: I'm from South Africa.

Steve, you absolutely right about not needing a shop and a bunch of tools. Many, many years ago while I was working my way through college I would work off the back of my truck (instead of driving back to the shop). Truth be told, building in a shop, with a bunch tools, is quicker and easier though. Great video, thanks Steve.

thank you Steve. even if this is not your newest video. it did remind me that it was you and some other woodworker like Mathias, Izzy, John, April and some more, that gave me the confidence in trying. and so i did build my 2m x 2m King size Bed and a 2x10m shed. my next project is a raised bed for my 4 year old son. with no legs, attached only to the wall by french cleat and the ceiling via two chains. and mostly all of it was build with a hand saw, power drill and elbow grease. so thank you again.

Really glad I could find this video. My wife has been asking me to make a storage base for our queen size bed. Currently I have only borrowed tools and, literally, no space to build it in. I think this weekend I'm going to give it a shot though I may use 1"x4"s and double stack them in such a way that they come out as half lap 2"x4"s. There'd be a WHOLE lot of gluin' going on but it'd save my ears from the amount of sawing (plus I wouldnt have to worry about getting the half-laps perfect). If I can find a light to film by I'll try to do a video!
