Even though, sometimes pop songs may drop pronunciation and tones, I think that it is still a good way to learn. It also depends on how much effort you want to put into really learning the words from the song. There are also some pop songs that are slow that may be easier to understand what they are saying (like JJ Lin 林俊杰 songs). For me, pop songs and rap songs has helped me a lot to continue learning, but I do understand how at the beginning, rap may be easier to listen to, so that you don’t develop bad habits. 谢谢老师!

I have actually been wondering about it for some time, so it’s great to see a video about it. I have thought for a while that popular Chinese pop songs isn’t great for learning Chinese (unless you’re an advanced learner). Because of the dropped tones and because of the words that are typically used in these songs are, as you mention in your video, just not used as often in the daily life. Great video, I’ll definitely check out the rap songs you recommended!

Pop songs in every languages usually use poetic words that is cringy for daily conversation. Even English pop song isn’t a good tool to learn conversational English. Just try to speak English in the way of English love song Ballad, any native speakers will think you are cringe. Pop song is a good tool for learn basic poem in a language.

well songs always help everyone learn a language, but on the matter of rap songs I do think there's some major reasons many singers like to modify the pronounciation to fit to the flow of the vocal delivery without making it sounds too harsh and off the beat at certain times First major reason is Mandarin has almost no silent consonants, it used to have but that was theoretically before the Yuan Dynasty, 700+ years ago, not that it's that important to mention anymore. And example is how you would pronounce "sad" or "Match", the d at then end of sad and t at middle of match are the silent consonants. Second reason is all major Sinitic language varieties are monosyllabic, one word is just one sound. Combining these two factors you get a language that relentlessly pushes air out of the mouth without grabbing it back and having lots of glottal stops being monosyllabic, it's certainly conveying information in a denser way but when you try to say it extra fast with all kinds of exotic melodies, then it's guaranteed your intonation will need to be somewhat altered and pronunciation clearness will too be changed just to fit the song well, I mean you wouldn't wanna cringe your listeners with major off-beat harshness just trying to pronounce everything exactly the standard right? That works occasionally with traditional melodies mash into modern electronic ones but you get my meaning, it's highly limiting what you could do.
