I love learning about other cultures through music, and rap can be especially telling. Thank you for showing us some Chinese female rappers!! Just added them to my library. I especially loved the message of the second rapper, Rui Xue. And you know what's funny? I'm not even learning Chinese (yet). I just really enjoy your videos, your perspective, and the way you approach teaching the language. I am so fascinated by the way that the language sounds, and by all the idioms/classical sayings. I mean, we're talking about a language that's been spoken for thousands of years! That's amazing! It's very daunting, and I struggle to foresee a day when I would be able to speak it fluently, but I'm very thankful you have so many resources available for whenever I have the time to start learning!

Good question! You can just try search the title in Chinese with 歌gē词cí (lyrics), and there usually is transcript that you can look through

Wow, the flow and beat of JinxZhou's song is really great. I love hip hop, but I don't like most of the stuff nowadays (when I hear autotune, I have to puke), but I'm old and grew up with the best rap in the 90ies. However she's really good, reminds me a bit of Eve in her good old days.
@RitaChinese3 жыл бұрын
Hahah yeah, there're some huge changes in the so-called "new school" styles. While hip hop is so much more in mainstream music now in the US and even worldwide, the core of the music genre seems to have changed a lot as well, for better or worse. Anyways, Jinx is AWESOME!!

I had never thought of using rap when learning Chinese. I have struggled with some Mandarin pop songs I try to learn with, especially when they don't follow or enunciate tones in their melody, which can add a challenge to English learning in my opinion. Thanks for the rap recommendations, hopefully this will make learning Chinese with songs more fun! 多谢了老师!

OMG what these rap girls are saying and how they are doing it, is so great, so powerful and so necessary. Absolute world class artists, actually like them more than the "originals" for the message they are bringing. Very brave heroes. Thank you for teaching us again in your own incredibly powerful way. Too bad I can only give you one thumb up, you deserve all my fingers and toes. I think you should do an entire video with the best raps, because it is at the end of a long video about learning Chinese, and my recipients will find it hard to watch to the end. Yes, I know, that's what you do...

If you know the Chinese name of the songs, you can just search it in Chinese with 歌gē词cí (lyrics), and there should be a transcript for it somewhere. As for pinyin, you'll have to use Google Translate or other apps to get through the characters!

I actually decided to put in the effort to really learn Rui Xue’s song and I have to say I was able to learn a lot of useful words and expressions much faster than I normally do. I also enjoyed annoying my husband by constantly asking him: “錯了嗎 ?”. Just one thing I’m still confused about is, what does she mean about airing dirty laundry? According to my dictionary this Chinese expression is used to say don’t talk about ugly family matters in public. Google translates this part as “it’s her fault she’s ugly”. What kind of situation is she referring to?
@RitaChinese3 жыл бұрын
Haha glad to hear that the method works!! The lyrics was referring to victim blame - the girl got sexually assaulted/harassed but her family think it’s her fault and won’t tell anyone or police🙁
