Here "The" only child describes that Donald and Melania are his biological parents. They have other children but they are from the previous marriages. "An" only child means that a person grew up without siblings. Or maybe still growing up.

Why do people say in English "It's the wrong answer", when the answer is one of many possible wrong answers? Isn't it more logical to say "It's a wrong answer?". Articles are a PITA

Well , it seems you don't understand her idea,there's a difference between "the only child" and "an only child" "The only child" means without sisters and brothers. "An only child" means immature ,acting like a child or it can mean without siblings when we talk generally.
