It’s so startling, as someone who grew up in West Virginia, to see a game based there by someone who seems to actually know the area. The talk of the medications, the dialogue, the actual places mentioned… The opioids were the one that got to me the most. My moms an ER nurse, used to be an EMT, and I can’t tell you how many times she’s shot Narcan up someone’s nose. They go from barely breathing, completely non responsive, to getting themselves on the cot a few minutes later. The opioid crisis in the Appalachian area is very real, and seeing it portrayed by someone who seems familiar with it… yeah.

This is super late but can somewhat confirm. They actually are the second pill used in the pill abortion. They don’t cause the abortion, but they do cause an extreme period that flushes out all the material. It’s causes extremely painful cramps. Which explains why she screamed “pain!!” and then was given the painkillers.

They are used mainly for abortions and (it sounds odd) to help with miscarriages to make sure there are no further complications. I lost a child to fetal demise and had to take this medication to induce at 17 weeks. Miscarriage is medically defined as "spontaneous abortion" though the circumstances aren't always the same woman to woman.

PT hallway, Sunderland Forest, Static-y Radio, body horror monster, hand and disembodied voice behind doorways, even the photos made the sound documents do in some of the SH games. Watching Mark play all of these games that he actually REALLY enjoys that just scream Silent Hill without him actually PLAYING and ENJOYING Silent Hill is my greatest addiction and greatest sadness all wrapped into one package. Damn, was there even a nod to Twin Peaks in there? This game is a treasure.

Dude...what I wouldn't give for Mark to play the original Silent Hill games, specifically Silent Hill 1-4. Each of those games are masterpieces of horror. I know it'll likely never happen because of Konami copyright and whatnot, but it just makes me so upset when he plays games like this and never mentions the obvious references to the greatest horror game series ever created. Still Ridge is wonderful and I can't wait to see what they do with it, and it's so great that it feels like a giant love letter to the Silent Hill franchise! So many references, to the obvious one like P.T., but also Omar's quote referencing the radio is very similar to Harry Mason's from SH1. Sunderland Woods being a reference to James Sunderland and Frank Sunderland from SH2 and 4 respectively. The front door being chained and locked up being a reference to SH4. It's wonderful, even references to inspirations for Silent Hill like Lynch's Twin Peaks and Kubrik's The Shining. Mark, if you ever read this somehow, I would absolutely love for you to play the original SH games. If possible of course. Even if in your own time outside of the channel. It's truly a worthwhile experience that you won't regret.

As a poc, there's something delightful to me about how awkward he sounds in this reading black character dialogue. That whole conversation at the end was wild. As a fellow colored person (that color being peach-tan, in my case) from Louisiana (y'know, where New Orleans is-jazz, catfish unintelligible accents) I found it kind of _weird._ There were multiple bits of dialogue where the inflection was obvious, but Markiplier was either trying to avoid being "insensitive," or genuinely had no idea how to read it. The "shiiiit" bit, though, makes me think he was just trying to avoid faking a black accent. _Everyone_ knows how to read that, and even if he didn't, the word was elongated with multiple _i,_ and you're tellin' me that Mr. "Where's the Blacksmith" isn't going to ham it up? Gimme a break.

I never said the dialogue was hard to understand, just that it was enjoyable how awkwardly he read it, whether it was from trying to avoid sounding a certain way or not.
