In the wake of a high profile KZbin personality taking their own life, I thought I could talk a bit about that darkness people deal with. If you're struggling, here is a link to numbers you can call. ibpf.org/resou...

As someone who lost my Mother 2 years ago, I appreciate your videos. Such a simple thing as watching a hockey video takes my mind off of things for a while. She took care of me in the beginning when she was told that I had too many physical issues and wouldn't make it and I retired early and gave up a lot in retirement funds to stay at home and take care of her. She was terrified of being dumped in a Nursing Home and forgotten. So I made and kept a promise that she would stay in her own home no matter what. Thankfully, I never reached the breaking point. It may have been close once or twice but thankfully I am still here. Your videos both here with your wonderful wife and the 'Adelaide Movie Reviews' and the Hockey videos on the other channel have given me something to look forward to and have taken my mind off of the depression for a while. That's a rare gift that you and your family have that not everyone is capable of doing. I thank you for your work. One final thought, please never leave the Cats out of your work. They add that personal touch that like I have said many times, 'makes your videos like going to a friend's house to talk hockey (or movies etc). Wonderful to see almost entirely 'positive comments' for once. That's rare on KZbin these days. Keep up the excellent quality work that you do Shannon, and never give in to those who want to interfere with your work.

I have absolutely nothing but respect for you Shannon, always have, I was diagnosed with a depressive mental health disorder at a very young and it's been an uphill battle most of my life, the past few years of my young adult life have been my best and I don't even recognize my old self anymore, I find joy in things like your videos, my great friends, whatever it maybe. I still have struggles but I never let it get to me like I once did, I love the way you discussed this and it's one reason I respect you. Much love.

I remember being at the point where I wanted to end it all, when my depression and anxiety were at their peak. In fact, I was going to do it (walking to the roof to jump), when I ran into a friend of mine in the stairwell. She said she wanted to hang out and show me something (I don’t even remember what it was so it was probably trivial), so I put off suicide to hang out that night. An hour or two later, I thankfully was not in that mindset and have never been there ever again. Sometimes, support can distract you from your pain, and that can be exactly what you need.

Thanks for this Shannon. Straight up, I've had issues and your channel helped pass the time until recently, when things started to get better. I'd like to say no issue is too small to get help for. I felt that my issue was insignificant, and that I should just "deal with it", but I needed help. So thank you Shannon, for providing an avenue for help & bringing awareness to this. Also, if anyone sees this and wants to chat about anything, feel free to send me a message. I'm more than happy to help.

Everyone struggles, including me and it's great that more people are finally realizing how important mental health is. I have friends and many KZbinrs I watch also struggle. Your mind can be a dark place. That part about the counseling struck me because I'm seeing a therapist now and sometimes I feel like I'm lying to satisfy her. Great video, thank you!

Thank you and you're right, it's not an answer it's an end. Sometimes we need reminding that the crap we're going through will also have an end. I'm still around partly due to my kids but also because (and this may sound stupid) I don't want to disappoint a friend of mine who thinks suicide is the most selfish thing ever. I'm also nosy, I want to see what happens next. Your reason to keep going can be small, there's a new series or movie you want to see, your cat needs feeding, you don't want to spoil somebody's birthday, you want to see who'll be the next Stanley cup champions! So many people go through dark times, you are not alone!! You don't have to get through on your own, there's help, even if reaching out is super hard! Wow, this got long. Keep going, to never know what's around the bend.

I was in a relationship a little while back that tore me apart when it ended. Yes, her and I definitely had our problems, but I had loved her more than anyone else (minus my family), and it absolutely destroyed me when she said it was over. I spiraled into a depression that lasted for months and I will admit I considered some dark stuff. I woke up every day and waited for it to be over because my mental and emotional health would be hell. That voice in my head would every day say "you did this, this, and that wrong and that's why she left you." I put all of it on myself because that voice told me everything that happened was all my fault. Then a little while ago I started to turn a corner, feeling a little bit better about myself, not back to normal, but better. Both of Shannon's channels helped, each in their own way. The Hockey Guy helped me keep up with the only thing that kept me going every day, hockey. The Entertainment Guy I felt a deeper connection, and I'm glad that videos addressing mental health and such issues are made, more people should be aware how bad it can affect you. That voice is still there, though it's a lot less powerful than it once was. I am getting better, slowly, I believe. Thank you so much if you took the time to read this

I just did a video on this. It really hurts me to see people making tasteless memes on him committing suicide even before it was confirmed that he did. Also some idiots who are just treating it like "he's just some KZbinr, why are you emotional about it?" Like with Durant's injury, people seriously forget that athletes, entertainers, KZbinrs, etc. Are people too. I really hope he didn't see any of that tasteless garbage before he took his own life, that will make things worse if he did.
