The main problem is that most western societies have abandoned debate. Both the left-wing and right-wing media are each doing their own monologues. They get very polarised and believe the stupidest things imaginable. It's also the reason why "misinformation" and "hate speech" has become a problem: in a debate, your opposition is responsible for questioning and challenging what you say. That's why debate is important. BUT their solution to "misinformation" and "hate speech" is to either ignore the problem, or having the government (or some 3rd party) regulate what you can say. Even if you implement such a system with good intensions, it will be hijacked by the tyrants. Electing Trump is a step in the right direction for America, but they will always be at risk of being misled by whatever media they have as long as they don't have debate in their society. If your society does not have debate, it is not a free-society.
