Thanks for posting this. These two great gentlemen have collaborated on some really special tunes. I always love hearing them together whether it's the tune "Never Get Out of These Blues Alive" (from 'The Best of John Lee Hooker 1965-1974'), or "I Cover The Waterfront" (from the Hooker album 'Mr. Lucky') or their duets on Hooker's 'Don't Look Back' album (which Van Morrison produced and sang and played on) such as "The Healing Game", "Don't Look Back", and "Travellin' Blues". It's always magic when they get together. The mutual love and respect is so obvious.

Van is a legendary misanthrope and asshole, so earning his respect is near impossible, but, man...you can see the love and respect. And there's John Lee, like some kind of Buddha, just sending those vibes out into the universe, and Van can't help but let his guard down and bask in it, however awkwardly. John Lee was such a generous soul. Van takes the vocals, and there's no ego there, just "Sing it for me!" I'm a musician and I've played with many others and, I can tell you, all our egos are huge. I'm sure John Lee had his as well, but he seemed able to transcend it, at least in his later years. I try to learn from that.

@@JefferyHagen lol I've read Van is a miserable person to do anything with. It seems obvious to me he wrestles with deep insecurities, which is shame, considering the beauty of his catalogue.

It's from a 1992 (BBC) Arena documentary on Van Morrison, One Irish Rover, so try the BBC iPlayer or Britbox, something like that. Just found the following on a website called Letterboxd which looks like it might show it: 'One Irish Rover, a documentary focusing on the words and music of Van Morrison, was broadcast in 1991 on BBC 2 Arena TV special and on A&E cable television program. It is a series of live songs with commentary by Morrison about music and poetry, it has some truly amazing performances. It includes the footage of Morrison and Dylan in Greece, Georgie Fame at Ronnie Scott’s, John Lee Hooker, The Chieftains and Danish Radio Big Band.' Best of luck in tracking it down. I saw it when it was broadcast on the BBC, not the original broadcast, one of the repeat broadcasts.
