You know you are a true legend when you write a song, which you don't have to sing for the rest of your life because the crowd always does the job

For those not in the United Kingdom, this performance was 2 weeks after the 2017 bombing at the conclusion of an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester (the Gallagher's home city) -- killing 22 and injuring more than 1000 . Within 3 days, it had, organically, become an anthem of unity and healing for victims, greater Manchester, the UK, and all those touched by the tragedy. I'm quite sure this was Gallagher's first public performance of the song following the bombing; a few days earlier (4 June 2017), Chris Martin of Coldplay sang it as a duet with Grande at the One Love Manchester benefit concert which Noel didn't attend (Liam did, instead). The audience overtaking vocal duties of the song wasn't their tribute to HIM -- Gallagher deferring the vocals to the audience was his tribute to THEM, his home city, and a nation that still needed healing. I got to see him perform it a month ago in Phoenix, Arizona, USA -- loved every second of it.

Absolute nonsense. First off, Noel has a long history of deferring to the crowd on this particular song. KZbin is full of live examples of this, starting years before. Secondly, DLBIA was very much an establishment-promoted song intended to discourage the (righteous) anger that the native population naturally felt in the aftermath of that horrific attack by a foreign migrant that never should have been in the country in the first place. The idea that it was wrong to be angry was incredibly offensive. But it was pushed HARD on the British public anyway and because it was a song from a Manchester band, an extremely anthemic and well known song nationally and had that not-so-subtle suggestive programming in the title to not be "racist" or to seek answers or justified reforms to mass immigration, it was heavily pushed by a complicit and tracherous media establishment.

I feel like this song is ingrained on the British psyche. If that's the right way to phrase it. My son knows this song and he's 11. I asked why he sings it so fervently and he can't quite remember. It's just IN us now 🤣

But that ain't ever gonna burn my heart out
