I started my first lock journey 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I had been researching it for a while and so the first time I was admitted into a mental hospital, I twisted and ripped my hair. I'm on my 6th set of locks now and I've had these for a little over 2.5 years. I could never commit. Mentally, I haven't felt this stable since even before I was diagnosed. And this set of dreads is a keeper. They're free form but I separate them and now that I'm finally correctly medicated I have been caring for myself and my dreadlocks well. My mom is even starting to like them. Lol. On a side note: I'm not ashamed of my illness or afraid of what people think. I like to bring awareness to the subject of mental illness and show people that I am not so different than they are.

Being 15 you inspire me. I got in trouble with the law and now Im on probation. This made me count my blessing even more. I wanna grow my freefroms and my reasons is standing out from my generation and make it a new chapter of my life. They took off all charges. And I feel like growing out the freeforms with help me mentally,spiritually, and physically. This is my first chaper. My chapter of freedom. Freedom from toxicity. Freedom from drugs, achohol, etc. you have inspired me. I will use all your tips from your videos and make sure my freeforms grow out long, healthy, and swaggy. Im going to be a dreadhead in a suit one day. Mark my words. ❤️🩹

i grow free form because i like staying weird, I like it when people look at me and are surprised, some just have that look of disgust and shock but i really don't care, infact i love the attention it draws

Also, you gave me so much confidence to pursue the job that I wanted. They hired me the same day of my interview and I’ve been working their for a full month now. I’m a 19 yr old with a septum piercing, gauges, and a beautiful free crown.

This video was a TRAP 😩😩 started off laughin but ended up teary eyed 💀 I started June 1st of last year, and I had just graduated college that May, so I wanted to start locs as a way of “telling time” as I sorta embarked on this journey of being a brand new adult... kinda like how u can tell how old a tree is by looking at its rings. I’m liking how freeform locs sorta “mirror” life-my hair is at a point where I can look in the mirror and start to kinda-sorta predict how it might grow, but at the end of the day everything’s uncertain and my hair can go in a direction I’m not expecting. Other reasons include me wanting to better embrace my 4c hair in its natural state, wanting to learn to care less about what other people think of me, and simply appreciating the aesthetic.

Celeste! Always happy hearing from you! Hahahaha I didn’t meant to make you down! Haha but your story is mad inspiring ❤️ literally all the same reasons I started growing my locs - how long are you now growth wise? It’s a daily struggle putting others opinions behind ya but the calluses from worrying about what other people think build up quickly and soon you will give zero f***s! Haha happy for you Celeste!

@@DOMIBOY thank you! 💛 Length-wise even tho my hair strands are collar-bone length now, I have MAD shrinkage so it’s *just* long enough to put into a bald-girl ponytail if I really tried 😂 the congos at the top of my head are like almost 2in tall now, and the back of my head is finally starting to loc up. U ain’t lyin about other people’s opinions 😩 it’s hard standing ur ground sometimes. I’m glad to be part of the Congo Familia 😂🙏🏽 ur locs are lookin awesome and thanks for the awesome free-form content that’s not “HoW tO gEt FrEeFoRmS INSTANTLY 🤯”
@iankabaka65293 жыл бұрын
@@celestelindsey8522 yeah the shrinkage make me seem like my hair is really not growing and it also kinda makes it easier to maintain it,.

Aye I appreciate your testimony I’m on my 2, 3 set of locks and did not think of free from. After watching your video and channel I want to go for it. In a point of cash flow is low and I cut my last set cuz of depression and situational shit I was in and I felt I lost myself when I lost them and was my happiest with myself with my hair not them so I appreciate u pushing and letting people know the steps and what comes with it
@Bvzz472 жыл бұрын
I related to this story so much! It really hits home because I cut my first set of locs for the same reason you did. It felt like I took back control of my life when I cut them. Was never sure when or if I’d grow them out again and now i just hit my one year mark on my 2nd set. This time the growth on this journey feels so special and im happy to sit back and reflect on where im at. One door closed for another to open up.

Good video my FREEFORM brother! The reason why I’m free-forming is to express myself through my marriage. Everyday isn’t bad or sunny, it’s an adventure. My freeform locs display who I am and who I want to be within my household.

The part of “people not seeing your wealth, intellect, accomplishment (and depression)” is the EXACT same justification I gave myself so that I can cut my dreadlocks. Now I am on that journey again, more confident in myself and my self image

Full video for sure. Also. Started my journey last summer after the protests. Being biracial and high, high yellow has always been weird. Caught between passing and over racist bs. It’s my way of rejecting both and just being excited to be me, my heritage and my spirituality. Love the vids. Sub for sure

Talk about random...I cut off my first set of (15 year old) dreads in the bathroom one afternoon at the law firm where I worked at the time. I was at a personal and career crossroads but I wasn't aware until years later. I feel ya. I find myself at another crossroads sitting here in a Starbucks watching your video (mentally) starting my next set.

King, I love it when u said growing ur hair don’t make u deep.. lol that’s very true.. I started growing my hair back in 2012, only because I didn’t feel free... I wanted to break all of the stigmas that people (society) tried to place on me... This past weekend I decided to make a transition from traditional locs, to thicker locs (Wics) if u will. Since doing so, I have fallen in love with my CROWN even more.... BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, REMEMBER TO LOVE YOURSELF, EMBRACE YOURSELF, CROWN YOURSELF AND KEEP GOING... PEACE AND LITE

Full video please! Also I'm still deciding whether I actually wanna do them or not. The reason is that...mahns I'm over the maintenance, having natural hair(I have 4c) can be a full time job especially the detangling / blowingdrying process, plus the top of my scalp is so sensitive it feels like as soon as I touch it it's painful! I love my hair tho, and I dont wanna lose it, it will be me just letting go and focusing on other areas in my life hey.
