Honestly man, You are an inspiration for me. I’ve instructed for 2 years but I hope to get my float rating in BC soon. I feel that my calling is bush flying. Corporate and airlines are cool but like you said “freedom of flying and being in the outdoors” . I really appreciate your vids brother.

You can definitely get a ppl or cpl on floats in the US. Restricted to floats only of course until you take a check ride on wheels.

I did most of my CPL build up time on floats. When I was done I had 100 hours on floats with lots of PIC time. I flew most of my float time on a 172 with edo 2000 floats and about ten hours on a 180 all on the west coast. It was a hard job market to find a float flying job, but my time was a big reason my resume didn’t end up in the garbage can.

Thanks for the insights! I've always dreamed about flying a Beaver on floats in Canada, but here in frenchland we've basically only got 1 seaplane base and there is no airwork job there.... Also, I've had the same headset for my past 2000 hours I would say and it's been holding up perfectly, except the ANR module on the right side kind of died but after contacting the support they changed it.

@@onenutnightmare Lightspeed is really good about supporting you and fixing whatever issues you have. At least they have been for me and I have three Zulus.

@jamesriordan7 I tried contacting them a few times and it didn't go so well. I would've had to send my headset in which would mean I'd be without a headset for a month or I had to use the trade in program and pay $800+ for a new set. If I'm going to spend that kinda money I'd probably take my chances on another brand to compare what kind of life I could get out of them. I just thought I'd see some more durability out of what was their best headset at the time.

@@onenutnightmareI totally get it. I’d like to try an A20 next. I’ve heard good and bad though about Bose support. I guess it’s hit or miss. I’ve always loved Bose products and have several, but do get concerned when I hear the negatives about how they support (or don’t!) their headsets.

I’m from Sudbury, unfortunately it’s the other way around now, Sudbury Aviation was bought out by a company from TO called True North Airways and sadly they are more focused on executive charters and no longer offer float training. I’ve been going down to parry sound to do my training with Georgian Bay Airways. Funny how for you it was backwards.

I’m torn… I’m currently enrolled at a 141 college flight school in the US… my dream has always been to be a bush pilot, specifically a float plane bush pilot but I would be okay with either or both. The problem is I’m worried about the pay. Money generally isn’t that important to me but there are multiple planes I hope to own in my life and I’ll need money for those things and I just don’t know. Part of me wants to go work for a cargo company, flying big jets for like 10-15 years and then go do the bush pilot stuff but then I’m worried it’ll be too late or I’ll feel like I’m wasting my life doing something I only partially enjoy…. Idk, I’ve got plenty of time to think about it though, I’m only 19, I should have my CFI by the end of next summer so I’ll be building hours pretty early on, we’ll see where I end up I guess

Hey bud, there is good money in the bush if you have the experience. Maybe not 500K/year like you might make at Delta after 15 years. But it's decent money and the flying is the best flying I have ever done. Also, I wouldn't spend too much time micro analyzing your future in aviation, just let it unfold. Enjoy every flying opportunity you get because every job will teach you something. That said, I would set myself up in the beginning for a bush job if I thought I might want to go down that path. (ex: time build / train in a floatplane.) I didn't do that in the beginning and I should have. Mainly because I didn't have the information I have now.
