Some good advice, however for how high your pedals are sitting your thighs aren't getting any support from the lower part of the seat. The seat base needs to be angled in the direction of your thighs so that you sit in the seat rather than on it. That's why many GT and formula cars have bucket seats because the pedals are high. I have a "hybrid" driving position which falls in between GT and F1, which is a good compromise especially in VR so that it doesn't feel like your feet are going through the car floor.

K-man, this is a great video, and timely. I am always tweaking angles and distances on my Next Level stand, as I try out different chairs. I have bad wrists from guitar, RSI. So I personally need the wheel to be a little further away than the 90 degree arm bend. Otherwise, on hard turns, my wrists get a weird angle in them. So now my back hurts because my arms are out too far. Can't win! Please keep these coming because there's not too many videos on this out there.
@ianjameslakeАй бұрын
You didn't cover screen distance, and I'd suggest that moving your screen a lot closer would help quite considerably in getting a more natural feeling fov. Ideally, you want be able to hold your arm out directly in front of you toward the screen, and you should be able to just touch the screen, or be just short of it. This should be around 50-60cm from your eyeball. Easiest way to set it though is to just set the screen to be barely enough ahead of your wheel's rim by about 5-10cm.
@PopGoesTheWorld2023Ай бұрын
The one thing I was looking for in the video. What about screen size if you have just the one?
@ianjameslakeАй бұрын
@@PopGoesTheWorld2023 The bigger the better. Though 27" is what I would consider the minimum size, but it has to be mounted directly in front of the wheel (5-10cm), to get you a useable fov of around 60 degrees. Because the further the screen is away from the wheel, and your eye position, the smaller the fov should be to look realistic. You can of course drive with 60 degree fov with a screen further away than optimal, it just won't feel like your sitting in a car anymore. You can also get away with a 24" screen, but it will also not feel natural at 60 degree fov, even if it's directly in front of the wheel.

@@PopGoesTheWorld2023 - I have started with a 32" monitor but was not happy about it. Since I cannot provide enough space for a triple setup I have chosen to go with a 49" Odyssey G9 (125 cm from left to right, 1800R curved) and I couldn't be happier. It feels nice, the view is incredible and I have improved on laptimes - just because I can see more now. It is about 5-10 cm behind my wheel, so I just don't touch/hit it by accident and it feels so immersive. Itis about 50-60 cm away from my head though.

Great guide. As I did my first Gen3 Supercars race which asks for heel toe downshifts i.e. right foot braking, I finally realised my (new Fanatec faceplate GT3) rim was too far away and not enough room for my legs. Fortunately I went with the absolutely brilliant SimCore mount and I *did* install their sliders underneath - so I could easily loosen the mount and bring it forward, along with adjusting the tilt a bit more upwards. Feels much better now, and I have more room for my knees.

@xsham62249 күн бұрын
my technique is to adjust it almost like your road/sport car. First you get the height and pedal distance right :you should be able to fully press and release each pedals. if it hurts you need to change the height or tilt. Then you need to have the chair's back 100% supporting your back + shoulders. if when driving your back is not glued to the seat you're not correctly installed. And finally adjust the depth and incline of your steering wheel. the wheel should reach your wrist/lower part of your forearm when your arms are extended. When you're done, (on round steering wheels) the top of the wheel should be around the same height as your mouth/neck, and your hands at the same height as your elbows. you're welcome :)
@raytaylor41993 ай бұрын
I’ve got the Prime with the RS12 seat, one thing that really annoys me is that you cannot adjust the tilt of the seat, I’d say I’ve learned it is an actual game changer on picking a rig, it really is important to have the ability to make this adjustment, the flat seat is so stupid, can cause back pain quite often.
@CarsandCatsАй бұрын
Thank you! I had my wheel too low and was knocking my knees getting in and out. Also my wrist angle was incorrect. I raised the back of the mount and lowered the front. Now I have 2 inches more legroom and the angle to my wrists is correct. I already had the chest to wheel distance spot-on for maximum strength (I learned that from my Late Model racing friend).

I use a GT Omega Apex wheel stand so a lot of this is dealt with via minor positioning adjustments of the stand its self, so for me i found the positioning of the arms more suitable and applicable to myself as ive been curious as to whether im set up correctly. I seem to be with the positing of the arms to wheel but with it been a stand it limits the overall height of the pedals, its not uncomfortable, even for longer sessions but judging from this video, its not the "Goldie Locks" position that Kireth mentioned. Great video Kireth, found it quite helpful!

I have a GT Omega Classic wheel.stand with an office chair on non-rolling replacement coasters. Unlike the F1 seating arrangement in this video, I am.sitting more like you would in out street vehicles (I would say maybe even closer to our Chevy Colorado ZR2 rather than the seating in our Audi RS3). It works for what I do, and after seeing this video, if I ever upgrade to a full rig, I will have to make sure my personal seating style will be accommodated by the rig. And as a side note, I use a Sparco P310 flat top/bottom wheel rim for every form of racing. I even packed up the original TM T300 RS GT rim because I knew I would never swap rims. (And yes, I am using a non-DD T300RS and non-load cell T3PA-Pro pedals.)

Great video, however that seating position may be ok for GT3, but it is too close if you have more than 360 degrees of wheel rotation. You need to be able to swing your elbows in front of your body. Wrist to rim with arm extended is the best way to achieve this distance

Most sim racers sit too far away and have the steering wheel too low. Even the wheel is too low in this vid to be frank. Particularly for GT and Formula. The top of the wheel should be inline with the bottom of your nose. And, don't wear socks! Fibres will get into your pedal mechanisms. I've been sim racing, karting and track days for over 25 years.
@-row-garfield31292 ай бұрын
To far away, i am with you. To low, no. I have seen a lot of modern GT3 onboards and also 'studied' seat positions of formula and especially lmp prototypes (there are good charts to find about it). I even angled mine slightly downwards like it is in the 919 Porsche. He is right in the area with wheel height for gt3 and touring cars. Center of wheel at chin height.
@blueferrari3972 ай бұрын
@@-row-garfield3129 There's no right or wrong, but the higher you have the wheel, the more accuracy you have in inputs. Take a look at most F1 drivers positions, it's even higher than bottom of chin. GT3 and in Australia with Super Cars these are also just below bottom of nose. There are, I'm sure a few drivers who don't feel comfortable with this positioning. The reason many sim racers have steering wheels low is the desire to see the entire screen, but the problem is, and if you look at videos, even of Max Verstappen sim racing, his eyes are look very upwards, which isn't good for your posture or eyes!
