If you are buying a mountain bike assuming you will get your money back you are crazy. The reason we buy one is to ride, that’s your payback.

@@50whatnomadtravelnursemtb5 yep! True. I just bought the Trek 2022 Slash GX and AXS and I’ve ridden it a handful of times and bought it new for 4.2k (people bought it for like 7K when it came out 😮). If I tried to sell it today, I’d bed lucky to get 3k - and it’s all carbon. I decided to keep it and put my eMTB purchase on hold for the tech to get even better - I really like the Canyon brand. I like the 900wh. The new AMflow looks good too!

I've been buying tech for 50 years. In most of that time, I always had the latest and greatest (early adopter). In the last ten years, my finance degree finally took charge, so now it's bang for the buck. Computers, cars, phones and probably e bikes, you're better off buying a 2 year old top of the line that's been refurbished. Let someone else pay the early adopter premium and take the depreciation. You'll likely save 50%. Peace

I totally agree of focusing on Motor, Battery, controller and Suspension and upgrading components that are important to the rider. I currently own invested on 2 eMTB. For me, I'm just for the ride to explore so I normally look for reliability and durability in my components. With proper maintenance and care, I plan to hopefully keep my bike way past the 10 year if i can, just so I can give me save up for the next bike purchase.

All my friends are selling their 2022-23' Specialized stunt evo and Propain freeride, with top specs, for the new Kenevo Sl... more because it's difficult to afford to keep two bikes, I'd rather keep two cars it is more afordable😅 Meanwhile I'm on my 2017 YT (wich by the way, retained a lot of its market value?!?! don't understand how) pushbiking and loosing energy on uphill instead of puting it into the downhill... but it is what it is, I'm still happy
@LaurentiusTriarius4 ай бұрын
If it's not a motorcycle but a bicycle you should be able to swap things easily 😜 You get the point I guess, mountain bikes work cuz they simple and easy to fix in the field, adventure motorcycles are a whole other ballgame, and as a MX rider I still prefer mountain bikes because the freedom is unequalled. Keep it simple and upgradable...😅

Thanks for sharing. I put my purchase on hold. I was going to buy the Canyon Torque. But I held back - I may wait a year - to see what the upcoming year tech is. Canyon has the EP8 and it appears it’s louder than the Bosch. But I love the 900wh. Because I want to go a far distance. The 300- 500wh won’t cut it for me.

I got an amazing deal on my own Rail (same color as yours), and while in hindsight I think I'd have preferred a full-travel e-enduro weapon like the Santa Cruz Bullit or Norco Range VLT, it is still just about my favorite bike and I've already got about 3800 miles on it. I've got no real plans to replace it, and am probably even going to get a second battery for pedal access to Northstar and the like.

There is a third option: just buy the bike you like the look of (ideally one with a good size battery for range, and a from a reputable manufacturer who offers a decent warranty) and ride it indefinitely - there is no need to keep trading-in any bike for a newer model, just as long as the manufacturer will still support that model with regard to warranty or replacement parts, then you can simply keep on enjoying the one you have!
@Bike1984 ай бұрын

@@Bike198 fwiw. I think this is the 'problem' with society as a whole these days - no one is content to simply buy something with a view to owning it indefinitely - they only ever see their purchases as some sort of rental or investment? - as @Ibardocz says below - you bought it, you own it, you can easily get $7000 worth of enjoyment out of it over the years... some people will spend that sort of money on a single holiday.

@@jmo2752 Yes your correct buy a bike you like then ride it for the next 5 years or more then when you fancy an upgrade on a new bike sell it cheap to a friend or family member knowing that you had 5 years of fun and memories out of it and its now gone to a new owner . Mountain bikes are not a financial investment just an investment in pleasure .

I think adding a motor of any kind to a bicycle defeats the objective of riding a bicycle and turns it into a motorcycle. Sure, you still have to pedal, but you become reliant on another energy source that actually restricts your ride. This inturn restricts your self-reliance, which is to my mind the essence of cycling. As far as the cost goes, it makes no sense when you can buy an MX bike for the same price with far more performance and equal maintenance costs at this point in time. As a mechanical engineer, I am not adverse to technology and see major technological advances in the area of ebikes, as well as crossover technologies, which is in itself a good thing. But then I am biased towards the freedom a simple bicycle affords.
