So I got 35x12.5x17 on my 23 sahara with no lift. Doesn't rub and rides beautiful. Reguarding the spare in the back. All I did was put a 75 dollar spacer, and that was a wrap. I didn't even have to raise the stop light bar.

i have 295/70r17 with 18mm off set steel rims weighing in around 105 pounds on both our JL wranglers . They are firm up against the 2 rubber stops. Been 6 months no problems. Will add reinforcement soon just for piece of mind.

Teraflex hd tire carrier for the win, let’s you adjust height and you can slide inwards towards tailgate for different offset wheels..

Excellent point. I had a Jeep tj and I had put new wheels and larger tires on it, for the spare I bought a cheap steel wheel and matching diameter tire. Plus I used a tire cover so no one really knew any difference. I also had a aftermarket bumper and wheel carrier like the one you referred too.

5:06 Putting the smaller tire on the back is going to cause extreme wear on the differential if run for any length of time at highway speed. If you have limited slip rear diff it is not going to end well. I think putting the smaller spare on the front and not putting it in 4 Hi is going to be the best bet as the front diff is free wheeling while in 2 WD. The first thing I did when we bought our JKU is match the spare to the BFG All Terrain tires on the 4 corners as it had some kind of Goodyear as the spare.
@SudburyDualSport11 күн бұрын
It should also be noted that you should rotate in the spare tire every oil change. Why spend so much on that extra spare if you're not going to use it? Ultimately, it will extend the overall life of the whole set, putting your money to good use. I see so many jeeps with a brand new spare and 4 worn out tires. At that point if you have to use it, it'll have the same problem as a completely different size...

I had a steel rear bumper with tire carrier when I had 35s on my Wrangler Unlimited. No way would the back door support the weight of the heavier tires. Thats a nice setup for those tires!

Can you use the original jack with those bigger tires and wheels? Just curious.
@robmotiveplus3 жыл бұрын
It’s 1.2” taller than the stock setup. However….It’s also lifted so a block for the jack is needed👍

You can get a nice swing out carrier that’s hitch mounted as well.

I really like what you did. But I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place I currently run 33 on my stock JL however I really like to go up to 35 in I do have three and a half inch lift kit on it currently so I feel 35s will clear however some have told me to change my gears if I'm going up to 35 and some said my stock gear should be okay what do you think?

Probably need to change the gears. Those 35’s are heavy!

Hi do you think i need to consider the spare tire reinforcement for tire size 315 70r17 duratracs on stock rims? Thank you in advanced

Check the weight…but I would think so.

You switched from a stock 31" tire which is standard on JL Sport to what equates to a 33" tire. The JL is required from the factory to accommodate this mod without any additional modifications. You must make sure the new spare tire rides up against the rubber bumper on the tailgate otherwise you will weaken the door and hinges. With the JK you had to buy a reinforced tire carrier when you upped the tire size. The JK has a thin stamped steel door skin while the JL has a magnesium forged door. Magnesium is much lighter but more importantly it is much stronger. On the JK the door hinges and a relatively weak door does not make for a good combination when upgrading tire size. The JL is equipped straight from the factory to accommodate this new tire set up without modifications or fear of damaging hinges or your door. Remember though that the new spare must come in contact with the rubber bumper stop on the door to prevent damage. To often people don't do their due diligence and buy tires that will require spacers or lifts before making the purchase and end up having to spend more money than they had planned

Nope…the larger diameter tire would not fit it the spare spot without modification. 🤔
@c4onmylip3 жыл бұрын
@@robmotiveplus You must have the only one that won't fit a 33 then because every other JL out there including mine can fit one without doing anything except re positioning the 3rd brake light.

@@c4onmylipI have a 2019 sport s. I just upgraded to 33" wildpeaks on 17" rims. When I went to open the tailgate the tire hits the right hand side of the tire cut out on the bumper. Had to get relocation bracket. Maybe it's just the orange ones that won't fit 🤷♂️

Different diameter tires will cause the wheel speed sensor to put the vehicle into limp mode.
@robmotiveplus3 жыл бұрын
Never had that happen🤔

Jeep computers be weird! Son installed a new suspension on his Jeep he had it aligned by eye. In his desire to test drive he didn’t re-center the steering wheel. It was in limp mode. Took it back home centered the steering wheel and all was good. How did it know the wheel wasn’t centered??? Magical intuition, maybe.
@c4onmylip3 жыл бұрын
You have to recalibrate the shift points on the transmission when you change tire sizes, if there's a big enough disparity in new vs old sizes it could make the computer go into limp mode because it thinks the tranny is malfunctioning. Use a Tazer or other programmer and you can set the tire size in the computer to either prevent or fix the problem. From what I've seen it usually happens when you go up about 3 or 4 inches in diameter, so sticking a 35 on a sport or a 37 on a rubicon without recalibrating

Aloha and good 🌟 evening 🌚 Rob. This is a great discussion that you covered in reference to the subject of matching spare tire. I never thought 🤔 of that critical point itself. Plus, it's true that we need to consider carefully the size of the tires to hook up to the spare tire mount to latch without any obstacle. Great video 📼 Rob.🤜🤛🐫💡👌💪🐕🐶👀🧐👐🙌👏🤙✌🤚💫💥🌟🔅😇
