Great advice! Would like to add that you should also do this stuff when you've got your bike washed/detailed by other people. I was stumped for a few months wondering why my bike handled better after going through a lot of puddles on the road, and worse after each wash. Turns out the "professional bike wash" employee just splatter car tire shine all over the tire, leaving the excess to drip onto the tire surface. Very cool, almost died twice.

Thanks! Yea thats a great point. While some may think something is common sense, other may not have it cross their mind at all. Thankfully, I do all the washing/detailing myself, so I won't have that happen again!

Thanks! Yea it was something I would have never expected. I have new tires on it now and feel a lot more confident, but it's going to take some time. That was scary!

Glad you're safe, sorry for what happened. I too, after crashing and breaking my leg, developed a fear or leaning too much. I've also become very cautious, always looking out for dirt, gravel, wet patches, and taking into consideration tire & surface temps.

Fucking Christ. I had a cleaner do put shine something on my tires, the entire. It did look pretty but slippery as hell. Luckily I noticed before riding

That tyre shine must be amazing stuff to still be on there after a 200 Mike ride..... 🙃
@mzgarage11 ай бұрын
They all say they are made for a lasting shine. The silicone products are not water soluble; they are made to last. The center of the tire was ok since it takes the majority of wear, but the edges where he never hit and where I never hit given it was my first day were very slick and the rubber seemed to be permanently altered.
@albertodanioni650411 ай бұрын
That’s the first time I hear someone is cleaning the tires of a bike with shining products. I think he did it just to sell the bike easier, if he does this normally then he’s like a walking dead.
@mzgarage11 ай бұрын
It wasn't just to sell it, he said he applied it every time he cleaned it. I told him I didn't understand how he was still alive, but I could tell by the wear he did not ever lean that much.

I’ve done some stupid things in my life, we all have.., but I’m grateful i’ve never done anything as stupid as putting a cleaning product on the riding surface of a motorcycle tire. I suppose it’s always easy to be judgemental when it’s someone else’s mistake.., but damn, that’s an impressive level of disconnect from one’s actions to the consequences of said actions! Anyway, such a shame you had to suffer those consequences. I sincerely hope that your relationship with this beautiful machine only gets better and better from this very annoying low point

How's your MV Agusta Brutale after a year? Did it have any major issues?
@mzgarage2 ай бұрын
The battery is still an issue. The lipo does help, but it will still die with a few weeks of no use. No other issues. The clutch is slipping now that I have 16k miles on it though.

That was… Preventable.. Never expect a seller to be smart or do things the way you should.. Plenty of sellers try and shine up a vehicle before they sell it.. and just like those car and truck engine bays that are swimming in glossy detail spray.. it is often hiding a multitude of sins. If you have the bike in your garage and you are checking it over.. Spray some brake cleaner on the tire and wipe it off.. if the tire feels at all greasy clean the whole thing and flush the crevices with a solvent, wipe than blow it off with compressed air.. I should also mention.. I bought a BMW R100RS that the seller had filled the cracks in the rotted tire with black silicone rtf. But I saw it before I bought it and embarrassed him into knocking $1000 off the bike.

Once I rode a bike that the owner used wd40 on the break disks to "make them shine and protect from rust" his words 😂😂 Good thing I always do a hard breaking test as the first thing in the parking lot before I really Ride the bike...
@mzgarage11 ай бұрын
That is scary! Good thing you caught that. I would think the WD40 would wear off quick on after a few times braking, but anyone of those could be you last!
@AntonioRockGP11 ай бұрын
@@mzgarage yes, I just kept using the breaks a low speed in the parking lot and it was fine in no time. It was the parking Next to his garage, to be fair he used to WD40 to leave the bike parked. He just took the bike out because he really wanted me to try it. Good friend! And we laughed hard together about the wd40 on the breaks 🤣

Glad that you are ok. A few years ago a co-worker's son was excited and washing his new R6. After he washed it, he was asking me what I thought of the bike since I used to ride them. I noticed something wierd about the tires and was wondering why it was too shiny. So I asked him and he said he put tire shine on it I immediately told him to wipe off the tire shine with acetone. Neeless to say, I saved both his new bike and his new rider A$$. He learned a valuable lesson that day.
