When I purchased my 2011 Saab NG9-5T4 years ago, I purchased 2 additional keys for it. There was a way to program them without the Tech2, which I did. When I sold it the new owner (a Saab enthusiast and former GM/Saab employee) was thrilled to have them! Great advice Jacob!

@@davidcain4010 - I had a print out of how to do it but it went with the car when I sold it 5 years ago. I do recall that the instructions said there was a maximum of 4 or 5 key fobs that could be programmed max.

I have a 2007 9-3 2.0t automatic. This is great information to know. My information cluster told me my battery was low in the key I do have for my car, and it said if the battery died, I would have had to have the key reprogrammed. I'm going to have to get a second key soon, I see.

When I bought my '99 9-3 as a CPO from the dealer in '02, I'd no idea I should've received two keys. So I put off getting that extra ~$200 programmed key - until I lost the original one on a dogwalk right outside my apartment. Nowhere to be found, and I looked hard b/c it was at a time when I could least afford a $1,200 replacement Twice unit. Lesson Learned: Now that the car's 26 yrs-old, I have not-just-two but THREE programmed keys.🔑🔑🔑

hi I'm living in sweden and i like the contents on this channel. I had an 9-3 og and lost my key. i ordered an new original key for my existing carlocks and an used circuit board for the key remote and the the garage cod in the new key as an extra key. "the old" key was of course already coded in. that way it works. The og 9-5 has the same locking system as the og9-3. I know that the ng9-3 has another system as you say.
@AutoAutopsyАй бұрын
I think I’m understanding this correctly - but you essentially bought a used twice with matching key “chip”? If so, I had to do the same on my 9-5 when I bought it 🥲
@niklas6867Ай бұрын
@AutoAutopsy yes a new key to my existing car and a secondhand key. i put the the remote buttons from the secondhand key to the new key and the garage coded in the new key as an extra key to the car.

I have a second key but it has never worked. I am pretty sure it is an original since the blade works in the door. When I go to start the car I get a message “key not accepted contact Saab dealer”. What do you recommend?
@AutoAutopsy27 күн бұрын
Hmm. It’s possible it’s the original key but the cim has possibly been replaced. It’s either a virgin key that needs to be married, or it has been previously married to another (maybe old cim)

I bought a 2003 9-3 that had a second key that wasn’t programmed yet. It’s still in the bag with the SAAB numbers. My local SAAB garage in Wichita refuses to program it for me and says that my original key would not work anymore if they did. They never looked at my second key…

They either didn’t know how to program it or just didn’t want to … I’ve done this 6 or 7 times. Not hard. You do have to refresh yourself on the steps but once you’ve got the laptop with the right software, the Tech2, the old key, the new key(s) it all works!

Reminder - after you get electronic access with your “new” 2nd key don’t forget to have the blank physical key cut so that in the event the battery dies you can open the driver’s door and then the hood to jump start the dead battery.
