One time when we were on NCL Dawn in a suite, we were able to eat breakfast and lunch in Cagney's. My husband fell in love with their banana cream pie he had at lunch on embarkation day. For every lunch/dinner after that (in more than one restaurant), the same server we had that day sought him out and brought him banana cream pie for dessert!

Hey Grant I started watching your videos from the oldest to the newest. I plan to watch them all! I have subscribed. The information you are giving is valuable but I would not plan to watch all the videos if you were boring. You are such a positive and warm person that it is a pleasure watching your videos. Hello Grant. I just returned from Miami last week after completing my 1st cruise ever and it was on the NCL Encore 7 nights to the Caribbean. I had re-watched your videos the week prior and others to be as well prepared as possible. What an experience I had! It was absolutely amazing and just like everyone warned me, I think I am hooked for life. I wish I had more time on the ship, the 7 nights were not enough to explore and enjoy everything the ship had to offer. Our group did have a few small inconveniences with NCL. As with every vacation things can go wrong as life is not perfect. Absolutely exploring the website and trying to see what different ports I want to go next. Maybe on the Prima or the smaller ships that do the inside Alaska passage. Thank you for your videos and I am looking forward to seeing your recent trip.

Hi Joe 👋 I’ve been following along and it looks like most cruises are about 85% full. But I will say it depend on the sailing. The cruise I was just on was much less full but it was a transatlantic. Order the smoked salmon bagel for sit down breakfast and ask them to not bring the bagel, works for me. I sometimes get a plate full!

Hi Maria 👋 Great question! The main dining room is usually only open for lunch on sea days so they are not open on embarkation day. The dining room should be open every day of the cruise! If you can get onboard before 2 pm, usually one of the main dining rooms is open. The Local or O'Sheehans may also be open on embarkation day, and of course the Garden Cafe buffet and poolside grill, though those will typically be the most crowded.

They are absolutely wonderful. Let them know before the cruise and then talk to the main dining room when you first board!

@Tammy's Treasures I filled out a form a couple of weeks prior to sailing about my lactose intolerance. When you first board, after doing the muster drill, go to the main dining room, and they will sit down with you and ask about your diet needs. I'm lactose intolerant, and NCL had almond or coconut milk. I picked out my meals a day in advance.

Hi Chris 👋 I came to answer, but see you're already in amazing hands with Tammy and Ann. They go it exactly right, I haven't done it myself, but I've talked to loads of folks and they've said that you let them know when you purchase your cruise about any dietary restrictions and they have a food specialist who works with you on board. If dietary restrictions are more challenging, they can review the menus at the spots you're looking to eat and you can choose what / where you'll eat in advance. Hope this helps!!

Very good. I'm gluten/wheat intolerant and have had multiple trouble free cruise with NCL - trouble free dining I should say, the rest of the experience.... Anyway, you submit a form to NCL's accomodations desk before the sailing and pre-order your meals about a day ahead. That will allow them to prep and custom make any dish you want in compliance with your dietary needs. The maitre d's are also very knowledgeable about which dishes are already compliant (or can be easily made compliant) straight off the menu if you didn't pre order.

Hi Doug 👋 Thanks for the comment. So... at least on my last cruise on the NCL Star the fresh squeezed orange juice appeared to be a victim of cost-saving measures. But, it's worth checking it out on your cruise at O'Sheehans / The Local and the dining room. No drink package needed, it's available for free at breakfast time only. Hope this helps!

I'm not Grant, but there is no charge for the cheese plate. My sister and I got one several times on our last cruise. She wasn't crazy about a lot of the entrees, but the bread, the cheese plate, and the desserts won her over!

Hi Nicole 👋 Thanks for the question. The French press is only available at the specialty restaurants so yes, there would be an additional cost to eat there, but not for the coffee itself, it's included at Le Bistro, I've also managed to find it at Ocean Blue. Hope this is helpful!

Hi Tanner 👋 I'm with you. So O'Sheehans the name is slowly being phased out across the fleet, but it's being rebranded as The Local, same menu but different name and different decor. So no worries your home away from home (and mine) it still there, it just may look a little bit different.

oh my ! I just got off a 7 day NCL Alaska cruise. It was AWFUL ! It started with the breaded flounder for dinner on the first night ! I have eaten flounder since I was a little girl, having lived on one coast and vacationing on another ! The Flounder was Greasy/OILY/slimy ! I have never been so disgusted with a fish entree in my life ! The rest of the food was Absolutely BLAND ! NO seasoning Whatsoever! I tried seasoning with table pepper but to no avail. They didn't have chips with the lunches I ordered on the cruise and replaced them with French Fries, every day, even the first day. Another item listed with the sandwiches was coleslaw. The first time that I ordered a sandwich, I did not receive the coleslaw. Next time, I asked about it and they told me that I had to REQUEST it, yet is was listed as a side item to be Served with the sandwich. I could go on and on and on.... The food was horrible. Also, this is the first Alaskan Cruise on which I was NEVER served Salmon! It wasn't even offered in the dining rooms that were not free with the trip. My porter would mosey to my cabin after about 45 minutes of my calling for his help 2 times. When he got to my cabin, his hair was a mess and he looked haggard. I don't know what was going on. Perhaps he had too many cabins to tend to or perhaps he is doing aerobic exercises in the back rooms. There was one time that my toilet wouldn't flush. I called several times on that also. They told me that there were a couple of other cabins with the same issue. After my second call, I hear a Big Vacuum sound from the toilet and it was working again. I would guess ONE toilet rendered a whole lot of other toilets useless ! The one thing I CAN say that is a POsitive is that I need wheelchair assistance embarking and disembarking and out of the ship onto land. They WERE VERY good about assisting me in a timely manner. I HAD filled out the questionnaire about people with disabilities prior to the cruise... Bottom line, this was my first and last NCL cruise !

I had always thought they were lacking not offering a cheese plate. We often sail with Marella and it's always on the MDR menu and we always get one to share after our sweet dessert. I will try asking on the Sun in a couple of weeks. Otherwise I will make my own in the buffet 😉
