I am using an old machine which is pretty long in the tooth. It has a 6700k + 1070 SC + 16 GB 3400 ram. Furthermore, I play at 1440p, but Tomb Raider is struggling at that resolution. I am wondering what I could upgrade to for 1000.

@@RXC13 For 800$ you can get a 5700X + RX 6800 and keep the RAM. If you have a 650W PSU it should be enough. It's going to get 60+ FPS in Ultra QHD, Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Still rocking $200 CPU (2020 Shadowlands prepatch build): 9600k, 3060, 32gb ram, 1050w. I've thought about upgrading but it's okay 1440p downscaled WoW, casual games Diablo 4 server slammed like a champ 1440p though. WoW is the one this year people are upgrading past few months without FSR there has been a Dragonflight performance hit, With FSR raids are playable on low as evoker heals. Maybe the 7800X3D or something lower priced. I thought about doing the GPU also. It's in the okay for now, Will play Diablo 4 fine category. I think the only settings I touched for D4 were shadows and lighting, it honestly was a great server slam experience performance wise. IDK. 7600/X also looks okay if I move to a new platform soon but would be a 6 cores to 6 cores with better IPC move. It's okay but not amazing holding out with what I have until I decide to upgrade.

It is interesting in the first build you said M.2 drives are maybe a dollar or two more, in the browsing I've been doing recently it actually seems like there are better deals on the M.2 drives than the SATA ones. It seems like there's a ton of supply so especially the PCIe 3.0 drives are competing for lower and lower prices these days. EDIT: Something to keep in mind, a lot of the case market can feel cheap right now but when I was shopping for cases I was really trying to find a good deal on one with a USB-C on the front IO. The case you included in collegedude's does have a usb-c module you can add on separately but for people who are looking for that feature, cases do tend to be more expensive right now
@xxxxtripxxxxOSG Жыл бұрын
It is really a shame how hard it is to find cases that have USB-C in the front I/O considering it has been mainstream for a number of years now. Same with many motherboards not having USB-C or even a front panel connector for it.

hope the USB C front will trickle down to under 50 MATX cases. heck in that price range there's still single USB3 lol

Hey Jason. Have you considered doing an updated prebuild recommendation list for those who arent confident enough or have the free time to build? 5:52 That Gigabyte Eagle RX 6600 is down to $180 now on Newegg with a $20 promo code. Not sure if it has sold out yet by the time people read this but it seems like the A750's price coming down to $200 also pushed the 6600 down. The Eagle is the only model at $180 so far but now it's even better value for budget builders. That $20 saved can go a long way with low budget builds.

If you have the budget for it, it would be nice to go up to 7600 for the AM5 platform. But 5600 6950XT is a good combo as well, and you can always upgrade that to 5800X3D in the future
@Karldin83 Жыл бұрын
7600 would probably be nice, but I doubt the 5600 will be much of a bottleneck when my 5800x doesn't bottleneck the 7900xtx. Was a little worried, but should be fine
@Pand0rasAct0r_ Жыл бұрын
the 3800xt i have bottlenecks my 6950xt slightly. not big but not less. any ryzen 5000 cpu mitigates that easily. however i think an 8 core cpu like the 5700 is a much better pick. however your better off going for the 5800x3d than the 7600 as the 5800x3d is very competitive compared to the 7000 series and 13000 series

I'm so glad that y'all are growing, it's so important to grow the reach of people that are doing what they do purely to help others. Flawless quality again, only thing I'd say is that I'm currently not advising clients to build on AM5, simply based on the switch to LGA sockets, leaving aside the SOC burns, there are just too many bugs. Though, I will also say that a 7700x is currently the best choice if you're going to build an AM5 platform, given the aforementioned SOC problems, and bugs with the x3D chips.

I think you're underestimating how much RAM future games are going to suck up. That being said, most of the folk in the boost my build were requesting specific games so it's passable to recommend 16GB of RAM. As an example though, Diablo IV was using around 21Gb of RAM with 4k ultra settings. It would blow the poor 16Gb out of the water, fortunately I have 32Gb so I didn't have to worry.

Hello there. I've seen the list and YOU can do better than that. I kept your CPU and aio but I would go for the NZXT N7 Z790 for the motherboard. I would not go ROG as they face issues with their motherboards. For the RAM, why not go 4x16? I would recommend going for GSKILL TRIDENT Z5 RGB 6000 CL32 2x16 in 2 packs of it. Both packs priced the same as your corsair 2x32. For the storage, why not use an NVME for your project storage? I would recommend the TEAM TFORCE A440 pro as it's as strong as the 980 pro. For the GPU, I would recommend going for the 4090 aorus master as GIGABYTE makes good 40 series and that costs way less and it even has an LCD screen. FOr the case, I would just go LIAN LI LANCOOL 216 or the LANCOOL 3. It's got adequate airflow and you don't need extra fans. For the psu, I would go more than 1000w like the thermaltake toughpower GF3 1350w. That ensures your power supply lasts longer. For the monitor, I think you nees a 4k monitor like the ROG Strix XG32UQ. It's a 160hz IPS 4k monitor. Rest of the parts is up to you as I don't know your preference for peripherals and there's like a million to choose from.

I got an oddly specific request from a friend - they wanted a general purpose computing PC with as few parts as possible that they could use "to drive my 4k 120 TV and soundbar, play UHD Blu Ray, sync with iTunes, back up photos to a hard drive and touch them up and the cloud, emulate Gamecube and PS2 at 4k and run Microsoft office". I was going to suggest a i3 12100F or 13100F paired with a large quiet aftermarket cooler, 16 gigs of DDR4 and a B610 and an HDMI 2.1 capable sub $200 Arc A750 or RX6600 with most of the build budget going towards memory and an optical drive with the added bonus of playing RE remasters and Street Fighter 5 and 6. Now I hear you can do all that with an AMD APU on a A620 platform with no GPU - true?

At the beginning of this year I've decided to better cable manage my 13 year old computer (Dell Precision T3500) while doing some maintanance and upgrades. I've had 2 SATA SSDs and 2 3.5 HDDs in it. I've bought some brand new SSD cables long enough to go behind the motherboard. Then I've plugged everything back together and it worked... for a week. Then my 1TB hard drive stopped working. I've unplugged it, plugged it back, it started working again. So I decided it is high time to replace it with SSD. I've plugged the new drive, and 2 days later my other hard drive stopped working. That is when I realised, that I've plugged it with the same (brand new!) SATA cable I've previously used for the hard drive I've replaced. And of course, the guilty party was the goddamn 80 cent SATA cable. The plus side of the situation - I've got an SSD instead of HDD. The negative - my new build (which I just completed) now has 3 SATA SSDs and 1 M2 NVMEs instead of 2 of each.

I may be somewhat ignorant with using PartPicker, but I've always noticed when you look at a submission sent to you, the compatibility bar on top of the part picker list is always green (when the list is from the viewer). But every time you boost someone's build, the bar turns to red (your list) which indicates a problem. How does this work?
@PCBuilderChannel Жыл бұрын
You're probably talking about the bios warning that comes with all AMD builds (wish they wouldn't do that lol). All AMD builds on PC Part Picker will have that red bar warning you to pay attention to your bios, whether your choices are right or not. So if I switch someone from an Intel to a AMD build you'll see that. But you'll notice builder lists with AMD have the same red bar

Hello Jason! I would be so happy if you see my comment and answer my question! I'm confused and I want to buy the right gpu. I want to get a gpu for 1440 gaming, but I also do some after effects and I'm trying to learn blender. I found RX 6700 XT and a 3060 Ti both at the same price range, however the 3060 Ti is 25 euros more expensive. I am heavily inclined towards RX 6700 XT for the 12GB Vram it has, because having 50% more Vram feels safer in the future, because I saw many games using 5 or 6GB of Vram at least. But I'm also a bit inclined towards 3060ti because everyone is saying that the RX 6700 XT is garbage for after effects, premiere, and also blender. Is the difference in performance and productivity that huge that it deserves to sacrifice the RX 6700 XT and 12GB Vram for the 3060ti with its 8GB of Vram? I also want to know which card holds the better reputation and value and future proofing in your opinion? Thank you so much!

What does the A770 Cost where you are because it would be better vs the 6700 XT for blender and better vs the 3060 Ti for gaming?

Unfortunately here in India, GPU prices are still high. The best price I could find for 1660 super was ₹17,500(~$210) and for 6600 was ₹22,500(~$280). Even though my 3060 is over 2 years old and not a good price, the performance uplift with the "new" entry and mid tier gpus are so lackluster, I may never upgrade again, or wait as long as I did from my gtx 770 before upgrading.

Just watching the 2nd build, why $118 for an OS? It really annoys me that OEMs buy their license keys for dirt cheap, yet individual builders get hit with these insane prices...I know about discounts for bulk orders, but it's all digital, it doesn't cost MS anymore to sell keys individually. My Windows 10 key cost me $5, it's probably a left over OEM key from a developing country or something, but I don't feel bad for using it as I've been ripped off enough from MS over the years.
