My little one was born full term at 39 weeks and weighed 5lbs 10oz. At 9 months, he was diagnosed with gross motor skill delay because he wasn't rolling yet. At that time, he started physical therapy. Fast forward to now, he's 20m and very mobile, but not walking yet. He's had many, many screenings for various conditions and so far, we haven't found any underlying issue causing the delay, though he hasn't been screened for autism yet. I can't help but worry constantly, but for me, having the physical therapist's assessment every single week has been the most comforting. Just sharing my experience. Edit: My LO started walking at 22 months!

Thanks so much for sharing! It's great to hear your little one is benefiting from physical therapy and you are able to access weekly sessions. It would be hard not knowing why these delays are occurring but great that you have access to supports. Wishing you all the best!

Sharing our experience to calm someone's heart out there. Our baby, by 12m was NOT pulling himself up, taking up a variety of sitting positions and rarely was able to sit up by himself (he did learn this skill by the end of the 12th month) He's 21mo and he's perfectly fine. One day he just let go and started running! xD Our doctor said everything was fine, just to give him another month or so. And yes, everything went well and he reached the milestones. That said, like Emma shared, it's a POSSIBLE sign. It doesn't hurt to check with your pediatrician if the baby is ok :)

@@ionelai9116 By himself, on his own? around 15 mo. He walked with his hands held from 12m until 15m (give or take). He's very tall (over 100 percentile last visit to the doctor) so some milestones did not go as expected. Some kids just take longer because they focus on something else. As long as the doctors don't see anything wrong, all we need is to be patient with them.

I had to advocate heavily for my son. When he was 9 months I noticed he had a dominate hand and the other was fisted, he wasn't sitting up and would fall over if I put him in sitting until about 12 months and his right arm was ridgid. I put him in physio immediately and then at 10 months he was diagnosed with CP. I learned that there are different levels of CP and his is mild. He is now doing really well, he'll likely walk around 18 months. To all the families that are watching this and worried like I was, just keep pushing for a diagnosis and services. Meet your child where they are and embrace their pace while helping them with their exercises. You can do this! We're just at the start of our journey.

My daughter was born at 34 weeks and just turned 1 on March 22nd but isn't 1 corrected until 2nd May (thay was my due date) she's getting there with sitting but still needs assistance and can kind of army crawl but she can't get on all 4s yet without assistance, she also has a chromosome deletion with mild hypotonia so that puts a spin on thingd as well, can I ask when should they be clapping and those sorts of milestones? And do I go by corrected age with these milestones?

Hi Emma, thank you so much for such an informative video! I’m very concerned about my son 😔. He’s 9 months old. He’s able to grasp onto toys - big and small - analyse them and transfer them from one hand to another. He has started to use his hands to push up onto his feet, and does open his hands for other activities also, however when he’s not doing something which requires the use of his hands, he keeps at least one clenched. Is this normal? I await your good response. Thank you so much!

Do you have any suggestions for helping twins development, that doesn't mean they sit in a recliner for a lot of time, where you are the sole parent? Is there a floor position or set up that gets around only having 2 arms:) ?

My son is going to be 12 months next month, but is 8 months adjusted now since he was born prematurely at 30w. He is doing great, he is already crawling and pushing himself to stand. But I am concerned with the last point you made in the video about fine motor skills. He could pinch small objects with his two fingers but when eating he tends to use his whole hand and put it in. Also, he likes taking out objects out of containers but not putting inside. Should I worry? Also how to direct him to do what you say in the last point? Thank you very much

I'm not an expert, but, i noticed my daughter's fine motor skills last week when I was eating a snack-size pack of Anny's bunnies. I showed her the pouch, and first, she took a bunch with her whole hand, but the next day, she took one at a time from the pouch using only her fingers. I'm not a fan of giving store-bought food to my baby, but I figured Anny's bunnies are made with good ingredients, and eating a few won't hurt. I keep practicing every few days. I think it really helps that she sees me eating them using only my fingers and taking one at a time.
@EmmaHubbard
@EmmaHubbard Жыл бұрын
As your little one is 8 months adjusted grabbing food using his whole hand is developmentally appropriate. Over the next few months he will go from using his whole hand to using just his fingers to pick items up. It's also important to note, that the size of the food can also encourage them to use their whole hand. Again at 8 months he should be having large cubes/sticks of food. As he moves to smaller cubes of food you will see that when he grabs these foods he will need to use his fingers to pick up the food. At 8 months it is also normal to enjoy taking items out of a container (as this is an easier skill). By 12 months your little one will start placing items into the container. I hope that helps!

Don't worry, this is perfectly normal. Children are usually able to sit up unassisted around 8 or even 9 months. Even if it takes a little longer, that's completely fine. Each child develops at their own speed, and while it is stressful when they seem to lag behind (which isn't the case for your child, luckily), it doesn't have to mean something is wrong. If there's a lot of things that seem off to you, it's best to consult a medical professional. They will be able to either reassure you, or to refer you to the right specialist
