Our 8 month old has decided she wants to walk. She's been pulling up, cruising, transferring between pieces of furniture, and pushing her baby walker (we put dumbbells in the front to weigh it down so she doesn't go too fast). We recently started taking her to the pool and we'll practice walking in waist-deep (for her) water. We hold her around the ribs and she walks between dad and me. I think it's really helped her become more confident. We're slowly moving to shallower water to reduce the forces on her body and to make her work harder. Yesterday was a pool day and we came home she had a bottle and went to bed and slept very soundly. lol

My baby was able to walk about 2-3 weeks after I followed the instructions from your video. Before that, I observed she can stand firmly for few months already. That's when I thought I did sth wrong and she couldn't figure it out by her own. I must say, your videos are life saving for me from the first day till now. I really appreciate about your tips for tummy time. My wife kept preventing me from doing tummy time because "in our country, no one does that". I followed your instructions with more reading on the benefits of tummy time. I can say it helps her back muscles and neck development a lot! That can be one of the reason she can roll, sit, and stand firmly quite soon. My baby turns 1 year old tomorrow. I know your channel will aim till 12 month only. Still, I want to express my last query. Would you mind having one video instructs how to teach the baby to drink? I'm training her but I find I do sth wrong. A research gave a lot of info, but still I would love to hear from you.

This is perfect timing for my little dude! He's 9 months and has been crawling since 8mo. He figured out how to pull himself up onto furniture and has even let go of the furniture if he has a toy in his hands. He can't stand on his own for very long, but he is learning fast! Thank you for your tips! It confirms that I'm doing the right things for him, and gives me ideas for getting him to cruise furniture!

I unknowingly followed all these tips, including the 90 degree furniture setup. Baby is taking steps all by herself a few days after 10 months, but had she not started walking, I would have patiently waited for her time, as she will have plenty of time to exercise walking in her lifetime. ;) Both grandmothers were eager to push her by making her walk by the hands, like a rag doll, I just explained that she would do it when she'd be ready. No need to rush things.

I have 9.5 (7,5 corrected) old twins and they already sit, crawl, climb a lot and now also stand with support and are trying to take steps supported also. For now i have them in a playpen with puzzle mats on top of a carpet for double the cushioning in case they fall. I worry about head/brain injuries so much. My girls are fearless and just go for it as I do what you advice and not instill fear into them with my reactions. Nice video. There are some really helpful tips. In our country most doctors do not support using walkers of any kind. My daughter started moving around when 5 months old, crawling month later and the same month she started crawling she pushed herself up and started walking arount the furniture. Now she is 11 months and this week she made her first steps. She is very determined a tries walking most of the day. She also holds some small toy in every hand while walking. Does that help with balance or something like that?

Thats great she is cruising! It isn't unusual for babies to stand on their toes when they first start to stand and cruise. Just make sure the furniture she is cruising on isn't too high as this encourages babies to stand on their toes to reach it. Also make sure she isn't wearing socks or shoes.

Baby pushers are not an options as he’s in the 97% for height and I cannot find a baby pusher with the handles high enough to work for him.
@EmmaHubbard3 жыл бұрын
Holding them around the rib cage is a better option as your bub's hands are free to move and help correct their balance when walking and their feet are also flat on the ground. If they only want you to hold their hands then make sure you go slowly (so they don't lean forward when walking), try and keep their hands level with their head or shoulders and try and make sure their feet are flat on the ground.

Hi, thanks for your videos, love them! I have a very silly newbie question but, is it really necessary to do all those things? Don't kids explore by themselves and go through all those steps by themselves when they are ready to? There are so many places in the world without all the furniture and toys we have, yet babies there surely do very well too and don't develop slower, quite the contrary! I'd think that development is innate, and a baby will get bored and will seek the stimulation they need at the level they are at, always, provided they have a parent that closely interacts with and nurtures them? Thank you for your insights : )
@aprilblossoms43 жыл бұрын
I have always wondered about this. As a kid from the 80s in Asia, I am sure my parents neither had educational aids or tools to push and encourage us kids to stand etc. Yet we did okay and so did millions of kids before all these techniques showed up. Sometimes I feel we put too much effort these days. Well I say that now. Let’s see how things go when the baby comes.

I don’t think the video creator is suggesting all these steps are necessary. I agree that kids will learn these skills on their own in a multitude of different circumstances. The video is for parents/carers who might be looking to specifically support the development of this skill; what activities to do to try and support confident walking, and what activities to avoid.

Wonderful tips Emma thank you I always love watching your videos. My son is not walking yet at 13 months ( born at 36.5 weeks ) but is cruising. I’m finding he is getting better at it but still goes on his tippy toes. I’ve noticed he doesn’t place his feet flat on the ground all the time. He seems afraid to let go and looks for me and holds his arm out for me to get him. Anything I can do to to courage him ti be more flat on his feet?
@EmmaHubbard3 жыл бұрын
Hi Angie, wow sounds like your little one has made great progress the past few months! This is super exciting!!! It’s not uncommon for babies who are learning to walk to go on their toes and it generally settles down as they get stronger. I would recommend letting him go barefoot when cruising and have a look to see if the furniture he is cruising along is too high. If his arms are level with his shoulder you might want to lower the height by removing the couch cushions. Also if he likes you to hold his hands to walk, I would recommend you start to hold him at the rib cage instead as this will encourage him to place his feet flat on the ground.

I just played with my baby and held things up that he wanted so he would have to stand up to get them. I would slowly walk away with a toy or something else he wanted and he would take a few steps trying to get it and I would cheer him on. At about 10 months, he went running after our cat trying to catch it and bam he walked. He looked so surprised like he didn't know he could do that 🤣. I figured I better not help him do things so he'll have to use his muscles and get stronger and work it out himself. It worked now he's a year and a terror running around getting into things.

So, my little one used to love holding our hands, and a cruiser to walk - then all of the sudden if we put our hands out he scoots back and fusses. So we thought he was in discomfort with standing and walking…. BUT he has no problem doing these things while holding onto furniture. He stands and pushes other stuff around greatly! So, I’m at a loss. Any ideas?

5:00-5:17 with two adults encouraging to walk without support my daughter too smart will just go down on the floor and crawl instead 🤣🤣

😂 Crawling is a lot easier and faster! Sounds like she is still building her confidence. Maybe moving closer together so that she can reach out and touch the adult she is to walk to while holding onto the other might be more comforting for her and keep her on her feet.

My baby refuses to use her push walker and will drop to the floor as soon as I put her on it . She did start crawling late at 10 months. She can pull herself up to stand and cruise a little bit. Should I just not stress about the push walker and focus more on cruising and transitioning between furniture?

Makes me so scared because we don't have carpet. Surprised that me the baby in the video was cruising at the 90degree furniture on just tile. Hopefully the fear passes soon.

Shoot. My little buddy loves holding my hands and walking around the house. He's 11 months now, and is not a crawler (he does this head scootch slither), but is AAAALLLLLL about walking. Any advice on how to discourage this or correct any developmental discrepancies that I may have caused? He seems to be doing fine cruising around the living room and his crib, and handles his push walker like a champ, but now I'm worried. 😱

My 14 month old cruises furniture and pushes her push toys like a pro but when it comes to walking independently she just sits down and crawls. Anytime I’ve tried to get her to hold my hands at her level she just gets jello legs and sits down. I’m not concerned just yet, I think she just doesn’t want to walk because she gets places faster crawling 😅🥴

My baby is only 4 and half month. But he likes to step out his foot with my support. Is it okay to do so? He roll over with small support and has good neck balance

My daughter is about to turn 1 and isn’t interested in regular crawling/standing/walking. She is pretty mobile though, pivots 360 degrees, lifts her bum, pushes herself backwards and puts great effort and creativity in reaching toys out of her reach! Is it normal? When to be concerned?! Thanks
@EmmaHubbard3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like she is getting comfortable in crawling - pivoting in crawling, push herself backwards and reaching for toys. It would be good to start placing toys up on coffee tables and lounges and see what she does. You could also start helping her to stand at a lounge to help develop her standing balance and strength

My baby can get very fussy when we try to practise with her. She gives up and either throws a tantrum or goes right to crawling. Any tips on how to continue making it interesting and enticing so she wants to practise more?
