@@markturchanik7907 , nothing Rambo about it. Just because your attacker goes to the ground doesn’t mean you’re safe. You need to understand that an attacker can receive multiple hits and continue to be just as deadly as before. You need to continue your actions until there is no more threat. Only if you are facing multiple attackers do you go with 2-3 hits each as quickly as possible. Only when imminent threats are neutralized is it wise to scan the area. Doesn’t seem as though you have the training to realize that. Not speaking about Reid. The subject matter is far more complicated. HAVE A NICE DAY !

Your comment reminded me of something I heard from an Ayoob book or vid about how some cops back in the day of revolvers that got killed had put their empties during a reload in their pocket like they had been trained to do at the range. Sometimes habits develop that turn out to be real bad ones. Reid is full of good advice.

People criticize this as nothing more than “range play”. The truth is, and having spoken to members involved in deadly force encounters, once your heart rate is above 185 bpm in a stressful situation a majority of people will experience tunnel vision, you physically won’t be able to see without turning your head and looking. Failure to simulate stressful conditions may cost you your life. How you train is how you will perform, no more, no less, and no magic combat fairy will take away from your overly rapid heartbeat or give you new skills

Great advice Reid. In the heat of battle, when the adrenaline hits the system, tunnel vision will set in. It is a very subtle and insidious physiological response that is very easy to miss. Moving the head left and right is absolutely vital in clearing the area.

Good tip Reid, "Train like you fight, because you will fight like you train" I guess I've always had good instructors, because every class I have ever taken the instructors have always said to keep the firearm at the ready for follow up shots until the target is no longer a threat. Then to retain the firearm in the Sul position and check surroundings for additional threats before re holstering. But apart from checking for threats, looking around helps to break up any tunnel vision that may be experienced in high stress situations, such as a firefight.

It's definitely a phenomenon with new shooters where they have to look where every round impacts after a shot fired. Creates a really bad training scar, my girlfriend was doing that the first time I took her to the range I had to pound it into her head to just focus on your sights. You'll see wear your shots landed when the pistol is empty.

Thanks again Reid. I must say, these training scars appear out of everyday actions too. I found myself in a position that I may need to defend myself, but not definite yet. I was able to gain a purchase on my pistol without alerting anyone around me. But, something was wrong. You see I wore a clip style holster, and having not dry practiced recently, I found my finger was disengaging the holster clip instead of being straight. It took a few seconds to realize this, and luckily the sketchy moment passed without incident. The only recent "practice" I had with my setup was taking it off at the end of the day. My muscle memory put me in a disadvantage due to this scar. Dry practice is key, every day, before you leave your house. Even just a few reps in what you're wearing out to be prime. Thanks for the wisdom.

When i got C.A.R.S. certified, it was drilled heavily in our head to constantly check our surroundings after shooting, i took it seriously. But I'll admit i haven't bothered to continue the habit when i go to the range in my free time, but you have a valid point, if im not consistently doing it for muscle memory there is a good chance i won't think about it in a high adrenaline situation. Today people write this stuff as "range theatrics". Which in a lot of cases that is what this can be without a purpose driven training attribute of the action. The best way you can do this on your own is actually identify things as your scan, saying in your head what you see. Doing this prevents from "fake scan and assess" training scars.

He put out a video the other day talking with a friend of his and the topic turned to guns and owning guns, which is hard to do there in Romania. His friend is trying very hard to get gun ownership and gun culture started back up over there in Romania like it was before WWII. He wants to work with people there to lobby their govt I suppose. He is meeting with and talking to folks about it and I thought you might be interested in seeing this and also maybe have some ideas for him.
