Only 1 thing i would add would be to build 1 birdcage before your first winter just so you can feed it monster jerky (from the spider farming, dry the monster meat) this will provide eggs which you can use as filler for you meatballs (1 monster jerkey/morsel/meat+3 eggs will make meatballs) basically you can live entirely of monster meat! Anyway great guide dude!

During summer I recommend you make a second base somewhere near the desert biome as cactuses grow whatever season it is and is a good source of food and sanity. It also offers protection for your main base. If you build a second base in the desert or anywhere that is far from your main base. The far away items will not burn. But instead the closer items will burn. Therefore you can build one Ice Flingomatic for your Berries, Twigs and grass farms. But plant in small numbers. Since it is not the base you are always going to be at. There is just going to be enough food to survive summer.

I feel like ice is worth mentioning here, since it’s especially good at allowing you to stretch your food a long way through the first winter. Ice is super easy to collect (you always get a few glaciers around penguin living areas) and once you have lots of it you can use it in a crock pot to turn inedible food into much more useful stuff; such as 1 monster meat/morsel +3 ice gives a meatball & 1 mushroom +3 ice gives ratatouille. After winter ice makes a great filler since it never melts inside of an ice box so you never have to worry much about running out of food due to spoiling

i know im a year late and u pobably not going to read this but, this is the best DST guide ive found yet! Good work man
@feartheghus7 жыл бұрын
the big thing I'd say to add to your guide is to emphasize the importance of ice, ice doesn't go bad when in an ice chest, so one or two stacks can be used instead of vegetables to make tons of meatballs throughout winter, also ice glaciers grow during winter, so collect all that you can to use during summer and spring (admittedly not important to a guide that is only for surviving winter, but still.)

Hey there, I've had times where it takes way too long to find them and it sucks. I had times where at the start if I had gone left instead of right at the start I would have found them days earlier. I do want to add that the Beefalo are more of a starter tactic. There are reasons you want to be close to them but you will need them less for protection as you get better at kiting dogs and once you have a good sized tooth trap farm. It is best to try and find a centralized location for your base though between pig king, swamps and beefalo. I also no longer make Veggie Farms and rely on other methods of food earlier. There are lots of different play styles and mine has changed over the last 4 years as well. Good luck

This is a great guide and all... buuuut.... This won't help in a populated server. Here are some tips though: 1) always have a backup food plan - Eventually, once your base gets defined enough, ppl will leach off of it and eat/use all your food or supplies. 2) Build in dangerous areas - This is basically newbie protection. Some people join a server to simply grief, or to pillage and plunder. If your base is behind 3 or so hound mounds, chances are, you're pretty safe. 3) Make a backup base - This should go without saying. Having a main base is nice, but be sure to make a backup base somewhere off of your main, as it will be necessary if griefers find your main. 4) DO NOT TELL PEOPLE WHERE YOUR BASE IS - self explanatory. 5) 2-3 people per base MAX!!! - DST is a fun game to enjoy with others, but after 4+ people, bases just become completely overrun with people standing around whining that they're hungry or going insane until they all die. Consider making a small base with only 1 or 2 other people. It significantly raises your odds of survival. 6) build signposts around the world - not only will this distract deerclops from *ahem* "wrecking yo shit", but it will also help aid as guide posts for new players to the world as good road signs. all things I've drawn on from personal experiences... Most people have the survival instinct of a fish in a volcano.... so having too many of them around will actually lower your own survivability.

This guide is for either playing alone or with friends. I accomplished everything by myself and everything should be able to be replicated with a few friends. PVP is never mentioned. Servers with more than the standard amount of players is never mentioned. Even though this game has those options, I have never felt the need or want to use/try them out. This is Don't Starve Together, not , Don't Starve and Murder Your Neighbor. Your points do make sense on large populated dedicated servers but myself and all of my friends have never and never plan on playing on those servers. To each their own though.

Hopefully it helps. There's been some changes of the past few years but it's basically the same. I do a few things differently such as try to put my base in a more centralized area to the Beefalo, Pig King, Swamps and other useful areas. After enough time you won't rely on the Beefalo to help against Hounds, you should end up making a Tooth Trap farm within running distance from your base. There's a few good comments here and some other great more detailed guides out there as well. Good luck.

The only thing I would add is that it's better to travel around the map until day 7, so you know where everything is located if you need it. :) So the first day you pick twigs, grass, flint, etc. and since day 2 you travel until day 7 because than the hounds come. ^^
@yoyo-ws8ip5 жыл бұрын
This is very helpful since whenever I’m playing and there’s a hound attack or any sign, I log out and stop playing the server since during that time I have no weapons made to fight against one round of hounds. (I like to play with other people) Also because I am always lost on what to do, making flower crowns and gathering flowers for sanity then getting a full on permanent fireplace on the ground by the spawn (I use it as a base mostly), then more stuff that’s most likely not important. I thank you for making this to make my life more easier whenever playing ;w;

P.S you can kill beefalos the same way you kill koalefants, if you find a road, it often leads to 2 villages, you can live in one, and destroy the other one (the houses) you can also hit the beefalos/koalefants 5 TIMES before they try to hit you, that way you kill them really quickly. with rabbits, if you're not patient, you can place the trap next to the hole, and then standing opposite the trap, dig out the rabbit hole, the rabbit will run into the trap, the boomerang is one of the best gun in the game, if you need food, you can just use the boomerang to kill birds, or attack the koalefant, make sure to hold SPACE so you don't get hit by it. I hope some of this helps! :)
