The paused banded work to help with opening the hips looks amazing, I've been struggling with hip pain on squats recently and can't even do sumo du to lack of abductor strength at the end range of motion.

try the abductor machine, light 2x15 glute bridges and also make sure to warm up your back before lifting along with your shoulders

@@N1GHTJAY The things you are listing are for priming the muscles involved in a DL or squat not actually prime the movement. Unlike the banded hip drill.

you don't want the back rounding over but you also don't want lumbar extension at the start of the lift either. Neutral spine is the best.

Honestly 90% of the sumo deadlift instructions have either Supreme sumo genetics, special equipment (pulling blocks or bending bars) or both. Everytime i see someones starting position im like nah, there's no way i can do that shit.

A lot of lifters simply don't have the leverages to desdlift with an upright torso, at least not without bleeding a ton of power. These lifters should either use the conventional deadlift (if your goal is to compete in powerlifting) or deadlift from blocks (if your goal is general strength/hypertrophy)

With all respect to Squat University, what you said is what I was thinking. Showing vids of people with perfect proportions for sumo deadlift and explaining how it should be done is... well a bit misleading. To some it is very hard to sumo with an upright torso, no matter how much work they put into it. It would be good to mention that in the videos. The accessory movement seems good though. Not hating, just wanted to remind people are built different. Squat U is a great channel.

Don’t deadlift from blocks just deadlift it’s fine to have a horizontal torso in fact it could make the back stronger

@@yoeyyoey8937 Unless your goal is to compete in powerlifting where you are required to lift with regulation sized plates, lifting from the floor is not always optimal. Everyone has different leverages, some people arms so long they would need to do deficit deadlifts just to get in the same positions as a normal proportioned lifter pulling from the floor. The height of the plates is arbitrary. Pulling from blocks is "just deadlifting".

I just don’t think she has the best deadlift leverages to be honest. Her hips will always naturally be higher for the most force.. just have to deal with it. The video of your correction looks good yes but it was a squat/ deadlift.. add some weight and she won’t be able to keep that positioning

Either stick with conventional or go semi sumo. Wide as possible sumo is short changing the utility of the movement. Unless the goal is purely numbers, go with wtv works in that case.

Look, I think it's clear that the advantage of sumo exists for powerlifters... By choosing a motion that is closer to a squat than a conventional deadlift is, they can pull bigger number/train strength for more similar muscle groups. By having overlap, you can make two lifts stronger with less muscle mass and stay within a weight category more easily.

I knew I wasn't crazy... I've always known the Sumo deadlift you have to have an Upright chest but I've been seeing everyone using their back to help lift them up... to the point that I thought I was wrong this entire time.

If I was to estimate the amount of people that deadlift incorrectly I’d say it’s 92.53 percent. Also sumo doesn’t count as it’s just a sumo squat with less ROM. Don’t do drugs or sumo deadlifts
