I was put on this, I lasted 3 days. It broke my brain. I now have an extra voice in my head that wasn’t there before I took this. I cannot express how much this messed with me while on it and now how it feels like my mind is now split in two.

Anytime you see a suicide warning in a black box it usually means it can cause akathisia so badly you want to top yourself.

Probably not this one. This lowers dompanine sensitivity. It’s actually more likely to literally stop your body from being able to move if you take a high enough dose.

@plymix8389 akathisia isn't involuntary movement. It's caused by sensations and a mental state that makes you feel like you need to move to relieve them. Though that still doesn't really help but you feel like you need to none the less. That feeling isn't going to go away if you can't move. There's actually something called internal akathisia which is the same feeling and sensations that cause people do move, you just don't move because of it. The movements are not entirely necessary to have akathisia. Even when I felt like i had to move, I could stop doing it if I really tried to, I just felt so uncomfortable that it made it very unpleasant for me to stop.

A lot definitely can and do. But there was also a time I took an SNRI over an SSRI, and it made me have racing thoughts I couldn’t control, which I could definitely see being a risk for suicide. The akathisia I have now however is easily worse than any symptom I could imagine getting from any of these psych meds. These psych meds can be straight up dangerous; society isn’t focusing on what is making so many take these meds in the first place.

@@nickc.5783 I have gotten acute, severe akathisia in a day from Cymbalta. I also got it in days for trying Prozac and was given Tranxene. I was still talked into trying Zoloft 4 months later b/c I was feeling so broken. I lasted weeks at best. I was also masking interdose opiate withdrawal akathisia with a benzo once I was trying to treat the pain of the dystonia. Each time I removed the benzo, I’d have stuff erupt and cause its own tardive akathisia and dystonia. It’s crazy what damage these meds can do to CNS regulation. It seems like anything that messes with dopamine directly, or indirectly can cause this damage.

I had a psychiatrist try to prescribe me ingrezza for akathisia. That didn't make sense to me at all so I declined.

I did a “career suicide” on an SSRI after quitting it cold turkey over three weeks. I literally thought “I will act in a way that may get me fired on purpose” out of frustration.

is this drug's competitor, deutetrabenazine, much different in terms of risk since the mechanism of action is the same/similar?

I guess this medication could help some people’s movement disorders. I certainly wouldn’t be happy about taking a medication that specifically reduces dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin transmission. It’s not really surprising it causes depression like symptoms.
