I’m a 6’2 woman and watching the only ‘tall’ store in the mall get replaced by 4 plus sized stores... no words. The few places where i could order tall clothes are shifting towards plus size too. In straight size I am usually a Large or medium but i’ve also noticed they just make clothes wider instead of adding length. So if you don’t take care of your body theres clothes for you! But if you were just born tall you are out of luck!

I was in the army for 25 years and very physically active. I had to get a hysterectomy in my early 30’s and started to gain weight even though I was still required to be active (we do a lot of running and calisthenics). Of course when I retired, I stopped somewhat especially since I was injured in Afghanistan. Two years ago, they found that my thyroid had large nodules on both sides (not cancer) and now 1 of them is the size of a walnut. I have no appetite, I can barely get out of bed, no energy and every time I go to try and sleep, I practically choke. It’s depressing. I have been bouncing back and forth between doctors trying to get this resolved but I seem to be in a time warp… BUT you Michelle have been like a beacon of hope and I love listening to you and your thoughts! Thank you!

Not coming as a doctor but from watching my mom go through some medical issues after her ablation which caused a very early menopause, if you're on hormone replacement right now it's very possible you're not on the right dosage or medicine for you. The uterus is the main hormone center for females so if it's gone your body works your adrenal glands overtime and they aren't always able to compensate (males only have their adrenals which is also in part why they have shorter lifespans, it's much harder to keep up). The thyroid is also a hormone gland and it may be having issues due to not having the response it expects from a uterus no longer there (also a possibility as to why you're more fatigued now and your metabolism seems slowed). My mom had to try multiple options because getting the dosage and meds that worked best for her took years of trials (she's prone to side effects so some that helped the hormone issues gave her other stuff). If you haven't tried that many options yet I highly urge you to look into other hormones or changing your dosages. Especially as doctors seriously downplay the function the uterus has in the body and don't treat the symptoms with the seriousness it deserves

@Ashragdoll Жыл бұрын
@chillxchillx8725 she's in the middle of a huge lawsuit with her dancers bc she allegedly fat shamed them, made them do a 12 hour nonstop dance routine, which, allegedly, made one dancer soil herself. Also, she took them out to a club in the Amsterdam red light district, and although they weren't "mandatory", it was implied you'd be treated differently if you didn't show up, they also weren't warned the nature of the... entertainment at the club, and allegedly, the dancers were pressures to touch naked female performers, and... well... umm... one situation involved a ladies(one of the performers) who had a banana in a... certain... lady bits area... and I guess her dinner party trick was, well, a little unconventional. This particular performer was able to... well... dispense earlier mentioned bananas from their... lady bit area. And Lizzo was pressuring her dancers to... partake in the parlor trick. It's pretty bad, Lizzo is denying it and counter suing... I really liked Lizzo, but there seems to be a decent amount of proof on the dancers' side, so... 😬.

I wish Lizzo would stop pandering the extreme fatpo crowd too much. She doesn't need it. She is a very talented artist and an amazing performer, she has already proven enough when it comes to her choice of profession. She has people and fans supporting her for her music. Being body positive, loving one's body or fat acceptance is totally different from whatever that extreme fatpo Haes crowd is doing. I mean if she keeps doing this, she is gonna get far more backlash than Adele or Rebel (who weren't as extreme with fat positivity as Lizzo currently is) when she finally lose weights to be a 'straight' or 'mid-size' (because she absolutely will one day - she has the resources, times and money that she probably didn't before she was famous). She already has had a taste of it recently when some were complaining about how she was looking smaller.

@@TayRayReads Lizzo's stance on it is kind of confusing, not that I'm especially following what the crowd is up to. Her earlier empowerment songs don't seem to bring up BoPo stuff as much as recent titles, so it transpires that the FatPo thing is something she was more pulled into doing than a core value of hers. If I'm not mistaken, the only song from Cuz I Love You that's got overtly body-positive messaging is Tempo, and it doesn't really toe the currently-popular HAES school of thought.

Im 15, 5,3. I listened to the body positivity movement for so long, and I used to be 165 (which was really overweight) and I was unhappy. I thought it was okay to be fat until I learned the health problems, and it’s a stress mentally. All my life I was skinny until I went off my ADHD medication and I gained a lot of weight, binging and fasting. A long struggle of body image. And everyone told me it’s normal. I’ve been trying to make a change and after all the failure, I almost gave up again. Last year I decided to make a change and I’m down almost 30lbs and am at 136 and I’m not done yet! ❤

The person I feel most bad for in the situation is lizzo, I imagine there are a lot of times where she wants to lose weight, you can't be that size without experiencing some of the negative side effects of it, but in addition to just making a huge change for yourself and trying to stop your addiction of food, she also has to deal with the fans that have rose her to that popularity in the first place. They would be disappointed that the singer who was known for being the overweight poster child, will no longer be fitting that niche

I do agree with you in a lot of ways. I don’t know if it’s her or her management who has made her weight such a big part of her image, but it’s definitely coming from one if not both of them. She did things that she knew would bring attention to her body, and now she’s complaining about it. Adele lost weight but she’s still Adele because she wasn’t going to basketball games trying to advocate for fat bodies by showing her butt to the entire audience. Some people made Adele into a fat positive icon, but she was never directing the focus to her body. Lizzo has made her body part of her brand. Now she’s not happy about it.

As much as I love Lizzo - it all comes from insecurity. Even women who love themselves. Having been my highest of 426 and now 148 (it took 4 years) - through Keto, swimming, HIIT, yoga, and even therapy. But I know most of my attitude when I was at my heaviest was mostly rooted in insecurity. Even though I had an education, skills, spoke another language. I still looked at thin or in shape women and wished I was like that. Now that I’m down at 148 and healthy (or as healthy as I can be - all my labs and cardiac tests are normal) - off all the medications I was on - I don’t worry about what people think. And I just look at this body positivity movement As toxic. If the women in the movement truly cared they’d encourage women to both love themselves AND get to a normal weight - with an active lifestyle. To me it just seems they want more women to stay heavy so they don’t feel alone.

@@anita8.8.8 it doesn’t necessarily mean that but there is a correlation which becomes more apparent as you get older. I’m in the overweight BMI category and have been for the past 7 years, prior to that I was always slap bang in the middle of a healthy BMI. I’m 40 and have been diagnosed with high cholesterol- my yearly results have been fine up to this point. I’ve already lost several pounds which has improved my results. I was incredibly shocked by this, I’m very active and I’ve gained weight by eating big portions of home cooked food. I dread to think what my health would have been like if I’d been overweight all my life, ate a lot of fast food and didn’t exercise. I’m a US 10 so only qualify as midsize- that is still too much for my body. I dread to think of some of the health problems much heavier people are walking into, completely innocently, because someone in the media (who consequently have a financial interest) told them the health profession are wrong.

I think Lizzo graciously accepts compliments and thrives off positive comments about her body and what she chooses to do with it which is why she is constantly mentioning it and posing almost naked a lot of the times. But as soon as she gets negative critique about her obesity, she gets angry and demands people to "stop talking about her body". Quite hypocritical when she decided to make her body a huge part of her brand and what she stands for. It's a different story for Adele, Alma and other (ex-)overweight artists who truly were all about their art and didn't feel the need to market their body.

So early superhero costumes are mostly based on circus performers, like trapeze artists and strongmen. Well they wanted to show off their body shapes so they wore an early kind of spandex. Early spandex ripped pretty easily so to maintain modesty they wore briefs on the outside. So when comics were first published they wanted to conjure that imagery of astounding feats and doing the impossible so they dressed them like circus performers.

Sounds like she's addicted to sugar, Keto or even low-ish carbs (50 per day) could work wonders for her, or she could do vegan correctly without globs of crapola. I'm personally starting lacto/ovo vegetarian but low carb as Keto stalled me for months. Her whole stance of dissing losing weight for health will bite her in the tushy as she ages.

I like Lizzo a lot. I GET her viewpoint as you said on the artists aren't here to fit into a box point. But, it's still unhealthy.... And you're right, you shouldn't expect to NOT get criticism and suggestions while on tv making weight a focus visually and in what she has to say. I'm happy she accepts herself and she makes me feel better! But, loving yourself definitely includes taking good care of your body and maintaining like a nice car that you want people to appreciate and for it to last a long time Easier said than done I realise. I am currently overweight as well. Also her songs get me pumped and I loved her back up dancer show except the parts where I cringed over 300lbs backflips and splits and injuries galore

You'll get there, I cut caffeine and sugar slowly out a bit after I attempted to get on a regular workout schedule. I had no support. Getting on a workout schedule took me four months, cuz ye know, I was lazy and fat. However, that doesn't mean I wasn't still trying to encourage myself to workout. Every lil step pushed me forth onto the solid workout schedule I have today. Just keep trying to do a little more each week and you'll eventually get there. It'll be more of a mental struggle than a physical one for awhile. I wouldn't expect you, a overweight person, to instantly be able to workout 4-5 day a week without majorly failing.

Tbh I hate the entire fat culture bs, but Lizzo is genuinely the only "big girl" representation I like. Most girls seem to be fat positive so they can stop beating themselves up and present themselves in unhealthy gross ways and demand that they not be judged. As someone who was big and lost weight, it's very common to see big girls not have the best hygiene, hair, and try to wear clothes that don't flatter them, and they try to say theyre more attractive than skinny people when they can barely move. Lizzo is genuinely pretty in my opinion, and is an extremely rare occasion of an overweight women ACTUALLY being beautiful nude on her album covers. She also wears clothes that flatter her body shape and don't make her look bad which is rare to see in that community. She seems like she has great hygiene, great hair, and high genuine self worth, and I don't think I've ever seen non forced self worth in any body else in the community. She also seems healthy, despite her weight. She seems fairly flexible, moves well, is still spunky, and nothing is slowing her down. Tbh, good on her. In a perfect world to me she would me the ONLY big body representation and be there as a role model for girls who are medically and hereditarily overweight and can't help it, there to show that they can still maintain beauty and hygiene, and be an inspiration for NOBODY to glorify and fetishize that weight just cause.

Girls and women who struggle with being overweight shouldn't have to stop beating themselves up for it. Calling them gross & unhygienic doesn't help anyone. If you want people to take better care of themselves, out of genuine concern for their wellbeing & not just because you think they're "gross," then you should try being supportive. You can't shame people into valuing themselves enough to take care of themselves & invest in their health.

Lizzo was right to mock the comments saying she should lose weight "for health," because those kinds of comments usually stem from fat phobia & not from genuine concern about anyone's health. I'm fat, but I take care of myself much better than most of my thin friends take care of themselves. I eat well (nutrient dense food, protein, fiber, lots of water, daily exercise, etc) and take care of my health, yet I get hateful comments about my weight. And it's directly because of fat phobia. If comments about people's bodies are strictly about health, then why don't thin people who smoke get called out for being unhealthy? Or thin people who don't exercise? Or thin people who eat too much sugar and not enough vegetables? Comments about people's bodies are almost never about health. People who aren't entering body building competitions aren't asking for anyone's body critiques. Editing to add: Lizzo's body was ALWAYS going to get talked about simply because she exists as a fat woman. People loooove to hate fat women.

The problem isn't that people are talking about her body it's that people are trying to tell her what to do with it. Lizzo lives a pretty healthy lifestyle. Her fat percentage isn't the result of poor health or unhealthy decisions. So saying she needds to loose weight for her health is like telling someone who showers everyday, brushes after everymeal and does a whole skincare routine that they need to shave be hygienic. And then telling them everyday in every context as if they're hurting someone by having hair. The whole point of body positivity is to promote respect for other people and not devaluing them for their body. Lizzo's efforts were toward showing an image of success despite being big; being happy despite being big, doing what you want to do- workout, sing, run a business be loved/appreciated DESPITE what you look like, and not judging wellness and success off of superficial things like fat percentage. There are people who lift mad weight and are BIG af. Just look at sumo wrestlers, even female sumos are big people and very strong. Body positivity is about not being ashamed and not shaming others for superficial things. If you want to promote health, then promote living a healthy lifestyle, not LOOKING like you're healthy. Yes a lot of people confuse body positivity with enforcing the idea that all body shapes, or specifically fat boddy shapes are ideal and good-- that everyone should think everyone is sexy/pretty or that only fat people are "realistic". Those people can suck eggs. But those kinds of people who derail a movement into bullshit are in EVERY movement. EVERY cultural issue has people like that, and it's usually due to emotional immaturity, revenge-seeking behavior, or just not knowing anything about the topic to begin w/ and misinterpreting the entire message. Lizzo isn't wrong. Other people should not be trying to pull her into one body shape or another because of their personal taste. Her body is not FOR them its for her. She's addressing the people who have yet to grasp that.

I think being able to recognize someone’s weight without making it the main topic for criticism is important. I would imagine that people who are overweight, typically want to lose weight but some time in their life they got so much criticism that it either turns into a weight loss journey, ED or a “since I’m fat and can’t lose weight I’ll eat whatever and gain more weight.” However, I do agree that if someone consistently brings up a topic, it sets the notion that it’s okay to talk and critique it in return. If it wasn’t allowed to be talked about, then that person would hopefully repeat that it’s too personal and/or they are uncomfortable publicly talking further. I can respect that.

Pretty much agree. If you put your body out there, be prepared for people's comments about it, and if you call it art, prepare even harder. But I'd argue that Lizzo's body is art because she hasn't put in any effort to make it look good (engorging yourself on highly processed "vegan" food is not work and doesn't make you look good) and her comments are all cope because she's butthurt people would dare say mean things about her.

I think the issue is, and what Lizzo said in the beginning of her career is she doesn’t wanna be the face of body positive but nobody would let her otherwise. Media, fans, movements, they all just only focused on that. Her songs about self love and confidence doesn’t mean equate to being part of body positivity. She’s been pushed into this corner and she’s dealing with it the best she can unfortunately. Whatever you chooses will be seen as wrong in a portion of peoples eyes and there’s no winning for her. Having the world focus on your body so much even if it’s for health isn’t a healthy thing for anyone.

I have been trying to lose fat like crazy. I actually gained weight since exercising and working (muscles). I am a 5'1 guy, 22 year old, 140lbs. I lost fat by small eating habits and being more active. Seriously, when I order a pizza for example, I changed my typical toppings (now I mostly get veggies), thin crust it, and I limit how much I eat in a sitting. Drinking more water, and getting a ballpark of the calories I consume. Suffice to say, I'd never been healthier. And I didn't do that because beauty standards or some crap like that; I changed because I felt miserable; between stomach aches, knee pain and just being weaker than I wanted to be. I didn't change for anyone. I changed for me, my own happiness and my own health. That's why. Sure, I didn't give up everything I love; I just am balanced with it. Scrupulously counting every last calorie (how I used to do it) was mentally draining, so I now meet goals with portion control... and drinking water and hot beverages. I should start drinking coffee early in the morning anyway to wake up since I do have to work at early as f o clock. But to see people trying to pretend that obesity is something that shouldn't be discussed? I do have a belief; WORTH at every size. Every person is worth respect and compassion... but these people are worth telling the truth to, as well. Because despite how people feel about Lizzo, I'd be heartbroken is she became another statistic like so many leaders of the fat positive movement. I am all for giving these people human respect. But I also believe that lying to them is terrible. Especially if they are stuck with a condition that makes it hard, this movement can be predatory to those kind! And a reminder... the fat positive movement was started by straight, white men with a fetish. That doesn't sound very humanizing. So, don't mock people; that will make them less likely to accept help from people critical of the fat positive movement. And yeah, not all bodies are the same. Even if everyone in the world were at their healthiest, we'd all be different, still!

I love how you want health. I think you're such a beautiful woman inside and out. With you I'm getting healthy and lost 86 pounds 10 inches off of my waist and hips.
