Lou - that's such lovely feedback. I was 23 once (when I was married in 1978 - still hitched to the same lady!) and have been playing guitar for 54 years (I'm the guy in the light blue top). It is just as inspiring for us old guys to know that there are fantastic folks like you out there who love the music and don't care about the age void. Today, when I play an Am chord or whatever, my body still thrills to the sound and feel through my bones just as much as it did when I was 12 and teaching myself guitar. I had no books and knew nobody who played so taught myself entirely by ear, working out the chords by listening mainly to Peter Paul & Mary - and this song especially. Music is a wonderful thing. I wish you decades of joy and fulfillment and thank you so much again for your wonderful words!
@JulesPellattMessyStudySessions3 жыл бұрын
I forgot to add that Chris and I met in our first year as undergraduates at university in 1975. He had never held a guitar before and I taught him how to play. That was wonderful, guys! Following a musical aptitude test in the 4th grade (1965 or 6?) the school wanted me to play an instrument in the orchestra. Thankfully my parents enrolled me in guitar lessons instead. But after 3-4 years of lessons and flatpicking tunes out of the old Alfred and Mel Bay books, I could play but it wasn't a passion for me. Finally Dad found a college kid who put himself through school playing folk music on the lounge circuit between Seattle and Tacoma and I took lessons from him for a year. Dylan, PP&M, Croce, later Don McLean - learning fingerstyle - by high school I couldn't walk past my guitar without noodling on it for awhile. "Veg'ing out" mom and dad called it. It's one of the most wonderful gifts my parents gave to me and still brings pleasure. The PP&M cover that really turned me on to folk music and even writing my own tunes was the Springhill Mining Disaster song. The poignancy of the lyrics and sorrowful tune hooked me for good. I'll be checking out the rest of your videos - and no doubt grab my Larrivee to play along. Hope you Martin boys don't mind that none. ;^) Thank you! And blessings to the both of you!
