I remember eating these when I was a kid! My family was quite poor back then and we couldn't afford whole salmon, but a fisherman we knew gave away the bones after filleting the catch and my mom would cut them up and fry them with just some salt and pepper and they were the best thing ever. :D I still think the meat around the bones is the best part.

I make hot and sour soup with the heads and bones in an instant. Alot of the bones become soft and edible. Just like canned sardines bones are soft because of pressure cooking. I add all the ingredients and spices you use sir. I also add wood ear mushrooms and bamboo shoots in chili oil. Also tofu near end and sometimes preserved greens. Comes out really good

excellent uses of the bits most people chuck away.

Some fishermen use these parts for crab bait in snares or ring traps. I do not waste anything on a fish. Only the gills and blood I do not eat, but gets thrown into garden and rototilled under for fertilizer.

Can the bones be eaten after frying them in this way?
@KiddCrowley7 ай бұрын
Yeah fish bones are surprisingly easy to eat once they've been fried for a good while. I personally wouldn't shallow fry them in a pan. But if you deep fry them you garauntee a good crunch

No, do not eat the bones. They may become brittle, but they will scratch your throat.

With how much everything costs these days I only buy salmon heads, frames and belly. $5 AUD for a whole salmon frame including head gives me enough for 7 individual meals. $5kg for salmon belly scraps. Thanks for the video!

Waste not want not. Those are great ways to make use of the parts that are normally discarded. I will have to try them the next time we get salmon or some other large fish. Does your family fight to get the cheek pieces?

Haha no fighting here, we all have specific parts we've grown to love

My Aunts who were poor scholars in the 70s in the U.S. would go to the farmers' market and get the heads the vendors threw away. They would have a feast! 🍥🍲 Nowadays, Asian food is famous so I guess less people throw away fish heads. 😍🐟🐠🐡🦈

Wow, I mean I like cooking, but that's a lot of work for just a meal. Well is it worth all the grease in the air, the smell, and the dishes, and the sauce bottles? I admit I am a lazy cook tho lol :p😁😋😛
