Did a Trex deck last year for my brother and sister in law with a contrasting border. He took the scrap and cut it into squares and made a parquet floor to go under his barbecue. A frame holds everything in place. It looks really nice and provides protection for the flooring.

Great idea. I may do this on a smoke/grill shed I’m soon going to build. I have a decent amount of scrap boards on hand from home and customer projects.

I like to use them as shims for an air gap when installing facia on deck bands. I also use them on the bottom of my stringers to keep them from having direct contact with concrete... makes great birdhouses also!

I’ve also used them as stand offs on the bottom of stair stringers. I don’t know why I’ve never though of using for air gap on fascia, but that’s a good idea. Only question I’d have is if, over time and related expansion/contraction cycles, a wave or buckle/bulge may develop on the fascia between the shims; even at 12” spacing. Have you seen anything like this happen?

@@devinbraun1852 I have never had it happen because of the shims. I have had it happen on a deck I installed during the winter where I didn't leave enough room between boards for expansion though.

would like a video of your planter box build. Seems straight forward but you may have some interesting twists that we didn't think of

Same here. Is there a frame involved?

I recently used Azek in a rebuild of my large back deck and side porch. I ripped the edging off short cut offs that are at least 5.5” long to use as capping on exposed cut ends using 2P10X (a slick technique you demonstrated in earlier videos).

I use scraps to do mockups of tricky details or to test fit before committing new material.

Just made some platform stairs for my hot tub. Scrap trex was perfect for skirting the stairs!!!

More than scrap, I over estimated my deck boards 😂 I did a whole office window fascia today with it to make it more modern (Timbertech Azek as well). The rest will be used for a storage box to put the covers of the furniture and grill while in use.
