The other thing to look for is smart TVs. They usually have an ethernet cable, and the hotel charges for Wi-Fi. I've plugged my laptop into the ethernet cable, and connected to their Internet.

I use my Oneplus 12R as my router on daily basis. I play videogames, download stuff and watch movies. It NEVER overheats, even when I charge it while tethering. And I do that for 4-8 hours/day. I get continuously over 200mbps download on my PC with my phone working as a router. I even play comp. games with it.

If hotel wifi is bad and you have a laptop, ask the front desk if you can borrow an ethernet cable. Unless the building is very old, you can plug in and they will tell you how. But as this guy says, always plug in a router. It's an extra layer of defense.

I've done the same thing using the hotspot feature on laptops. Most modern laptops have this, and even a laptop I had from more than a decade ago supported this through the NIC. It wasn't a simple click to enable the hotspot; instead, I had to use command prompt and the "netsh" feature to activate it, but I was surprised to see that I had such a useful feature that wasn't advertised anywhere.

Um when i was in Nyc hotel i couldn’t use a travel router even tried cloning mac etc. i was told bc their setup looks at device type/os/etc. could only change device nam/mac so nope. Also tried a network switch in port and nope still didn’t allow switch. Just make sure whenever you go allows travel routers. Soon they might block them.

I'm not convinced yet. Many hotels have different kind of logins to their WIFI. Username/Password to an SSID mostly works but how about open networks that require to logon or register on a website?
@LironSegev
@LironSegev 18 күн бұрын
When you connect the router to the open network, you then get the hotel's login screen where it typically needs your last name and room number, you put that in and click on connect. Now that the device is connected all the other devices don't need to do it.

The problem with using it in a hotel or cruise ship off their wifi is that most hotels and cruise ships no longer have ethernet ports in their rooms. For a cruise ship, you can't set it up and use it unless you want to pay for at sea phone service (which is poor signal and expensive) and tether off of it.

I think he is referring to the first part of your video, which starts out talking about not being able to connect to a hotel WiFi because of location and weak signal. Well, if you can't connect to the hotel WiFi, you can't connect to your travel router - or anything else. So the router isn't a "solution" to the first problem presented.
