Very good point regarding meal ordering in restaurants. I have seen another KZbin channel where 2 adults and 2 kids ordering one okonomiyaki at a proper restaurant and it’s really terrible. Japanese people never do this and it is frowned upon. Even if they don’t say anything up front for sure they’ll be talking behind your back about it. This leads to foreigners getting a bad rep. Please remember to order minimum one item per person at any restaurant to be respectful.

Japan is probably up there with the difficulty of the language, but you figure it out and manage to get around. What I really like is that you feel super safe, walked around Tokyo at New Years eve in the middle of the night without any worries. Now I just need to figure out where I want to travel next, most of the easy countries is checked off so it probably be more and more challenging.

This is a very informative and helpful video! If I can add one more tip - try to get a business card of your hotel. Just in case you get lost or do take a taxi, showing the card to someone for directions will greatly help you get back to your home base.

Great tip TT! We did that in Beijing actually. But now that we mainly try to avoid taxis and use Ubers, Lyfts, Grabs etc that usually solves that issue 👍 - Trevor

Thank you for introducing my country Japan. I must tell you that ICOCA, SUICA, or PASMO cards can be used in some cafes, shops, restaurants, vending machines in stations, and some restaurants as well as convenient stores. Like VISA, Mastercard, or AMEX, you can find SUICA or ICOCA signs where you can use those cards for payment. As ICOCA, SUICA and PASMO are interconnected, if you find one of these 3 signs, I think you can use any of these 3 cards. I live in Japan, but I don't use cash often. Watch vending machines and shops and cafes, and you'll find these signs. Some shops or restaurants choose not to show these signs even if cards are accepted. So, if you cannot speak Japanese, I recommend you to show your credit card or ICOCA card and ask, " Credit card, OK?", or "ICOCA card OK?" Most Japanese know those English words.

Line ups are not a thing in Japan, but a thing in Tokyo (or only some places in Osaka) from point of view of Japanese living in a local city, though Japanese from Tokyo don't know about this fact.

I don’t know I’m on the fence about Japan. The biggest reason it being so expensive. As far as Hawaii, you’ll feel you’re in the United States but of course the geography is that of a pacific island. It’s also quite expensive but very beautiful. You guys have been to gorgeous beaches so Hawaii won’t be that different from the beaches you’ve been to. Have fun.

The most important thing is not to insult Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. An American KZbinr shouted to Japanese people on a train in Japan, "We're going to drop another atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which indiscriminately killed scores of civilians, is the N-word in Japan.

Why should we all speak English if we live in Japan? Stop complaining! If you complain, please do not come. We Japanese are so tired of KZbinrs like you guys come and complain about our country in public. Again, the train system wasn’t built for the tourists, it’s for locals.
