Beyond thrilled that the Ecoflow sale will be going into June, I will be making a purchase but the big question is which site will get you the bigger bonus, Amazon or ecoflow themselves?

Ecoflow for now seems to be better.

Excellent preparation video on the generator. Only thing I would add is to go ahead and do an oil change on all units and be ready to go. On another note, I installed a cheap inductive hour meter (ordered from Amazon for about 8 or 9 bucks) on my generator that attaches to the spark plug wire to monitor how many hours I have run my generator without guessing on when to change the oil.
@TKCL8 ай бұрын
Great point, I have a few of those hour meters myself.

Good stuff. We keep some portable air conditioners, generators and water ready all the time even here in CA. There's been more power outages since 2020 than there have been over the same time since 2016. Summers are hot and we have the elderly to take care of.

I have 5 generators, two diesels on trailers and three little gas ones. When I say the lights never go out at my house, that's what I mean. Last major storm my diesel ran from Sunday to Sunday 24/7, I even throw the neighbors a cord to keep their fridge on.
@TKCL8 ай бұрын
If I could find an affordable diesel I'd be all over it. I'm going to keep investing my solar for now.

I'm currently in the works for storm prep I'm always much more relaxed when I just need to get some milk and bread and we're ready. In 2004 we were without power for nearly 3 weeks. We were fortunate at the time we were able to order ice though my dad's business to keep our food and a few friends since we had to make a minimum order for delivery everyone chipped in for a weekly delivery.

So have you thought of switching out one of your to diesel? Also the possibility of an electric car that could be charged by your solar system once you expand it. Also switching out your side by side to diesel. At some point you should look at low velocity wind generators that don’t use normal airplane style blades.
@TKCL8 ай бұрын
I forgot to mention our new side by side is diesel for this reason. It's 4x4, setup with CB (soon GMRS radio) has a winch and is now street legal. Diesel generators are extremely expensive and don't make much sense for me, I'd rather invest in more solar.

We have a 6500 watt generator that runs out whole house. But, it won’t pull the ac and the well at the same time. So I was looking on Harbor Freight’s website and they have one that’s 10,000 running watts and I think that plenty big for our needs. This one is a tri/fuel generator and I kind of like the idea of running it off our propane tank that we have for our house! What I’m wondering now is, how long our propane tank would last running a generator. And I know there’s way too many variables to get a reasonable answer. Our tank is 110 gallons. I’m thinking we’re gonna need a bigger tank if I go that route. Only thing in our house that uses gas is our stove and water heater.
@TKCL8 ай бұрын
They are not very efficient on propane and it's difficult to say how long. Many days for sure, keep the heavy loads down.

HAve you considered GMRS mobile radios (and a few handhelds) in all of your vehicles and tractors, and a 'base' unit in the house and shop? They come in really handy around the farmstead for everyday use if one of you needs to communicate with the other when you are out mowing or driving the UTV around the property. A good backup if cellular is down, or if you are in a dead spot. Also good to keep in contact with neighbors in an emergency. Ham radio is also a good option, but GMRS is a $35 license with no test, and 1 license is good for your entire family. Let me know if you'd like some recommendations. Some of the companies may even want to send some units for you to use and do videos on.

Yes, coming soon. I just added a cb to my offroad vehicle and a gmrs is next.

A lot of propane companies around here have a level pay option. You pay the same every month and they keep the tank full. It’s audited once a year. Does your propane and engine fuel companies have that option?
@TKCL8 ай бұрын
No, they offer will call or to get on a route. You pay for what you use.

I wish I could keep generator for 2 years but they all burn them selfs out. But they are air cooled engine and I run them 16 hours a day only off when at work. but almost 2 years out of 300$ generator is a steal to me. Never had a engine lock up or anything it is the Gen head that fails every time I have tons of spare engines if you want them they all start but no power burt coils in genheads
@peace-is-happy70468 ай бұрын
Hey Andrew, how long does that fuel last in the big tanks, also is there some type of addictive long term storage? Feel like I remember you discussing this but couldn't remember.
@TKCL8 ай бұрын
Diesel is easily good for a year plus, I do add a biocide to my tank. Non ethanol will store for 6+ mothns no problem. We turn our tanks over a lot.
