I think Rob was so strong during this interview by saying to Dave what most of us think. Stop bullshitting, get in the gym, and most important, say goodbye to your trainer Mick and the rest of your amateur team which consists of friends and family and get some real professionals around you!

the training wouldn't make a great deal of difference. if he was gonna be an elite level fighter, he would be there by now, rigorous and grueling training wouldn't help him that much, it would most probably make him worse, dave isn't built for that type of thing. i like Dave. he's a good guy, and one hell of a character. but let's be honest here, he's never gonna be a world champion.

He shouldn't have been boxing now still from the Yoka hiding. This kills me to say, but Hearn just uses him for his popularity to pad out his cards. How Hearn could've put him in a fight a month after the Yoka defeat is insane. You need 9 months off after multiple concussions like that, at least. Then he was in with Webb taking fist for four rounds a month later and then shipped a load of fist here four months later. Eddie really needs to see his conscience about what he asks Dave to do. Dave didn't want to take this fight and Eddie told him to stop being stupid - there was fuck all stupid about it.

@@matthewstephens6848 I'm kind of at a loss here, because there's a conflict in the stories of Eddie and Dave. Eddie said in an interview, that Dave insisted on these fights. I'm seriously worried about him, he needs more than a trainer he needs a mentor, someone who will take special interest and care to treat him as a special case and go above and beyond to keep him on the right track, I'm so rooting for him but if he doesn't sort his house out I feel like the world is going to chew him up and spit him out whether that's accumulative damage from boxing or circumstances outside of the ring.

Problem is no one be decent will touch him as admitted by himself he picks and chooses what he wants to do. He needs to move from Sheffield and get a complete new team around him but trying to teach a old dog is going to be so hard. Hern needs to tell him he’s dropped unless he sorts out a brand new team and show a vast improvement in commitment . The people he has now are more friends and he is in control.

Very nice of Rob to say what we are all thinking, someone who is less of a friend would maybe bite their tongue and just laugh along. Dave has openly said his sister looks after the majority of his money to stop him from gambling it all away, he reached a level of self-awareness about his habits and realised that giving away some control was necessary. There is no shame in that and it has worked for him. It is more complicated in some ways - the wanting to be involved in fight weeks, keeping matchroom on side, maintaining momentum, actually listening to and following advice - but surely the same logic applies to his training and fighting? Reluctant to compare the two because they are very different people but Dave's "I'm my own man, I know the problems and will take it serious when I decide to take it serious" attitude to advice that people give him somehow reminds me of Eubank Jr and how cringeworthy it is when he comes out with the stuff about not needing a trainer. When Eubank dismisses everyone's very obviously correct advice he does it because of his massive ego and a lack of humility about his own ability. With Dave I don't know what it is. He is very aware of his limits as a boxer but maybe in the back of his mind he thinks the toughness will always be a get out of jail free card that allows him to put on a show? When he talks about being difficult to work with I'm sure its true, but actually knowing that means you can develop strategies to work around it. His are probably more extreme but who doesn't have up and down days or up and down hours? I've heard him talk before about some of the best days of his life being in the Ingle Gym with lots of people around, it seems like being involved in a camp like that would be very helpful for him so on days when he's maybe not in the mood there are people around to keep him busy or just someone there to say fucking get up, turn the Bill off we're going on a bike ride. Surely the camaraderie and buzz of fight week is a big part of what makes it enjoyable, when training on his own in Doncaster or at the B&B in Leeds there is none of that or maybe for just a few hours of the day with Danny. I don't know, just seems like making training a very solitary experience is probably not healthy. First and hopefully last time ever commenting on a KZbin video, actually pissed off that Dave has motivated to write at this length

@Matthew Smith You're over-simplifying the situation with someone who is clearly a complex character and the fact your reply started with "whatever" shows you probably know it. Having said that you are maybe half right, by his own admission (at 4:20 in the video above) laziness has been a part of it but even after last nights performance I don't think he is going to wake up transformed. Clearly more than just a change in attitude (I will stop being lazy!) is needed if it is to be sustainable in the medium-long term, Dave talks about needing to keep himself busy and being part of a gym with other fighters could make the experience of training more enjoyable. Also investing trust in a trainer who has their own opinion about what is best for him, and is not willing to compromise on that depending on how he feels day to day, would be the biggest help. Those are the only points I was trying to make. Not sure where the self-pity comment comes from to be honest. Maybe the bit about having hard fights and being called in on short notice? I do not see any self-pity in the above video, as always he gives a very honest account of his performance, admits to under-estimating his opponent / over-estimating his own ability and says he shouldn't be on PPV. At 19:20 he says "people should never feel sorry for me", that he's living the dream and wants to go again. If your comment is made in reference to depression / gambling addiction stuff he has talked about then all I will say is I hope you extend greater empathy to your friends and family in real life. Talking about your own feelings and personal struggles is essential to working towards recovery from poor mental health / generally leading a healthy life and understanding other people. Sometimes rightly and sometimes wrongly this will come across as self-pity, but if you see self-pity as always unjustified or are incapable of understanding other people's depressed feelings as anything other than self-pity then you will not make a very good friend/father/brother/son. When so many men are killing themselves and suffering in silence with depression the fact that Dave is so open about his own feelings and personal struggles is something to be admired. The fact that such openness is not just a completely ordinary occurrence is quite sad really.

Like everyone else I find him entertaining and loveable. The problem is his poor conditioning and tactics. If he arrived in shape and used his gloves to absorb shots or slip them with movement then he wouldn't be in this situation. Dave needs to sort himself out. Running around with Monty getting into Donny slags is not the lifestyle that will get the British title. Every time he eats and drinks a non-athletes diet he needs to remember the likes of Dubois will be sipping a protein shake and clean carbs. The same in the morning when he is laying in bed while his rivals have done 5 miles of road running before breakfast. I hope Dave learns from this but I fear we will see this interview repeated several times over before retirement.

And you're not living your dream. You're living A dream but it cannot be yours or you'd not say you'd 'probably be dead without boxing'. I really like Dave Allen's style, he fights a little dirty - but all the best do. What sold me on him was how he gave his opponent a drink and even opened it for him, that's a good fella right there. Real quick things I noticed, good use of the head on the inside, no blatant butts. Good reflexes too, as soon as he popped that jab in the last round you were already leaning to the left coming with your overhand right (the one that opened the cut) - him vs Hughie Fury would be a good contest. Look, all of us cannot choose what we respect. Then, a small portion of that group feels they can only do the type of work they respect. Respect those that are capable. You don't know his past, you don't know what he's going through. The only reason you can say don't let him fight again in December is because you're on the internet. A boxer is remembered for his own actions and if significant enough, his own father is remembered and the seed is remembered as special. Warrior blood, then the progeny after has special clout. Silence is golden.

I've suffered with depression, and as much as I like Dave, he's kidding himself. He's massively depressed. He needs proper help. The adrenaline of fighting is a drug to him, and it's why he's constantly wanting to fight every month. He said it himself, the only other things he likes to do he shouldn't really do (gambling, drink, drugs) & in his mind he'd rather take a beating because he sees it as honest. I deal with my own depression and staying away from the above by working as much as I can, so I think I do understand him to a point, but I'm not taking punches to the head. If I was Eddie Hearn, I wouldn't put Dave out again until he changes everything. This is a tragedy waiting to happen. I wouldn't want it on my conscience and Eddie doesn't need the money that much!

Correct he doesn’t but he’ll happily keep putting Dave on his shows & exploit his popularly to line his pockets a little bit more, absolute scumbag. Only the boxing fans can put a stop to this sick game

shane brennan spot on ! How can a promoter put a boxer in the ring (never mind ppv) knowing full well he isn’t training or eating correct! He should be monitored and stripped of he’s pro licence for he’s own sake until he starts acting as a pro ... Eddie is exploiting this guy to prop up he’s shit cards.. no conscience little rat He keeps brain washing he’s fighters with a pound note, but what good is a pound note when your brain is getting crushed. This poor bastard is getting he’s crushed once a month atm wtf? Crazy

Hearn has put this guy in with Ortiz, wrecked Brook by putting him in with GGG just to get one over the Eubanks - Hearn has no shame when it comes to the health of his fighters.

Eddie Hearn is Dave’s mentor, he lines Eddie’s pocket & in return feeds Daves addiction to be wanted by the fans for free.

I think we all love Dave. We don't know the boxing game better than those in it but from an outside looking in; he needs a manager to say no to fights. He needs time for full training camps and needs some structure. Dave would be amazing with some guidance.

Dave just to add stay off Twitter or just let someone else post for you and block the negative comments,... You get nothing from negativity and can go anywhere and get anything from positivity , and being positive ....life is learning,.. And you learned something last night , ...I love his honesty it is rarer in this day and age,... Keep when and where your pulling your wire to yourself lough ,lol ,that was funny ..!! By the time he's 60 he'll be a resident at the babeststion studio ....he'll be fine !

Good interview! The honesty from the interviewer was needed. It's a shame this guy has lots of potential but he needs to sort a lot of things out, like his mental state, his training and fitness. Dave Allen is a very entertaining person to watch, but should not be fighting again this year. It's too much taking these back to back beatings in such a short space of time. He should just stay active in the gym till January, improve his fitness, help train and possibly guest commentate but no more fighting till late Jan/ Feb. Boxing is such a brutal sport I would appreciate not to see another basket case or worse...

I understand people doubts in Dave Allen, as I’ve had doubts also. Having said that, if a hugely established and true professional trainer such as Adam Booth can see potential in him, then there 100% is a chance that he could become a British heavyweight champion and maybe even European level. However, he should start working with Booth full time, as I hear he has done a couple weeks with him already. At least get a proper team around him that will tell him straight and honestly wants to see him succeed. White Rhino British champion 2019?

I'm not worried about Dave, I don't feel sorry for him either. It's clear that he'll live his life his way which I fully respect. Some people can't or won't see the woods for the trees and thrive/feed off the fuss that is created around them for the wrong reasons. I am fan and I wish him well, with real structure in his life he could be winning belts! I'd happily pay to see him fight for a title, go on Dave.

I think it’s clear that’s this is a pivotal moment in his career. Surely his current coach if they care would say this isn’t working. There are many great coaches in the uk but from the outside I could see him fitting in at the ingle gym. Stick him in kid Galahad’s spare room with billy joe 😂
