well said...cycling is my main endurance sport and i use running during off season for the exact same reason you described..you also will soon realize that even the lost fitness comes back fairly quickly

My biggest fear during a race is finishing last or not finishing at all...classic introvert fear I guess. Thinking about being done with trail races all together and just running solo with my dogs.

I'm always bottom 20. Once I was bottom 5. It's a blow to the pride, but the awesome experiences of races eclipse the embarrassment of a crappy finish for me. Best wishes to you and your pup!

10 minutes of awesomeness!! Thank you, I needed this message! Training through winter has always been my kryptonite. I decided to take the pressure off, and do 20-30 minute runs until January, and work on speed. And now I have your common sense talk drowning out the other voice in my head screaming STAY HARD!! 😂

I totally agree Eric! I call trying to maintain a high level of fitness "being greedy" and I was really good at avoiding it for decades until 2022 when I got greedy and got injured for the first time in almost 30 years. In mid November I did a 10 hour ultra distance outing in the Grand Canyon and since then have gone short, done more hiking and biking and plan to chill some more until the end of this month, then back to training in January for a race in March and one in June.
