Thanks so much for watching ☕ I hope you enjoyed coming along on this night out in the woods?🦉 Please note, some of the native woodland and foliage shots are filmed at a separate location. This is due to two reasons - firstly, because my tripod broke while filming and so I had to strap my phone to the pole with a bit of tarp line😅It worked in a jiffy but wasn't ideal for lots of hiking about. Secondly, I wanted to share some seasonal shots. I choose to camp at a forest that was largely non-native plantation as I felt this would be least obtrusive. With the shots of native woodland, Cam was on the lead so that he didn't trample any bluebells etc or disturb ground nesting birds. I checked beforehand to make sure he was allowed off the lead during this time of year at the primary location. I’m not advocating solo hiking and camping, I’m just sharing my personal perspective in my quiet little corner of the Shire and doing what I feel is within my comfort zone. Obviously safety varies wildly based on multiple factors, so it’s on each of us to risk assess our own situation. I don't share pinpoint exact locations of my wild camps as I don't feel it's my place to do so. Spending time exploring the landscape to find your personal pitch is very much part of the process for me. When we each do this, it avoids creating hotspots and deters fly campers who don't know how to navigate and have little respect for the countryside. --------------- AD | Thanks so much to the sponsor of this video! So if you want to get your dog or cat a GPS tracker, use code: bwyp-fablesandfells40 Or click on this link: tractive.com/en/pd/gps-tracker-dog? --------------- Wild Camping Ethos ⛰Camp above the highest fell wall, well away from towns, villages and lake shores. (Personal note on this lowland camp - I enjoy being out in nature at all hours, whether that’s walking, star gazing or attempts at astrophotography. I feel that a simple tarp offers unobtrusive protection in the woods as I rest. I wouldn't do a lowland wild camp anywhere that would be visually obtrusive or on land that wasn't open to the public). 🚮Leave no litter - this includes not burying any litter and removing other people's if you find it. ❌Don't light any fires, even if there is evidence that fires might have been lit. ⏳Stay for only one night. 🏕Keep groups very small - only one or two tents. 👀Camp as unobtrusively as possible with inconspicuous tents which blend in. 🌿Leave the campsite as you would want to find it. 🎒Carry out everything you carried in. 🩸Carry out tampons and sanitary towels. Burying them doesn't work as animals dig them up again. 🌾Choose a dry pitch rather than digging drainage ditches around a tent or moving boulders. 🕳Perform toilet duties at least 30 metres from water and bury the results with a trowel. 🐑At all times, help protect the environment and respect other visitors and communities. ✌Wherever you pitch, please remember that the landowners or their representatives have the legal right to order you to break camp and move on. Hello Chole thank you for sharing your adventure, Cam is so calm and his devotion to you is on full display. I have been going for short hikes in the hills and the canyons near me, the mountain range by me are the Santa Anna’s which was populated by indigenous people for thousands of years but the Spanish came and brought Christianity and then Mexico took over California and then eventually settlers came west and practically the indigenous people were slaughtered and many of the canyons have paranormal activity, there is one canyon that creeps me out and that’s Black Star Canyon, my senses are like a tripwire. Do you ever experience any paranormal and have that feeling that something is not right🤔anyway Chole I would love to experience an occasional midge over a rattlesnake or a mountain lion and being bit to death by ticks. Have a great day Chole👍🏻

@@FablesandFells. Yes mankind’s history is brutal, hiking here can be therapeutic but also dangerous because of the wildlife, as for being a skeptic I can understand, being a former serviceman and your husband can attest to this, our senses our heightened because of training and the situation you are in. I would love to know where you grew up on Dartmoor! I live on the edge of the moors near Okehampton and spend lots of time hiking with my dogs with the occasional camp! My Tilly is very similar in appearance to Cam - but not so nearly well behaved yet! Thank you for a lovely relaxing video!💜

Glad you enjoyed it 😊 I will do a video on Dartmoor at some point! I grew up in a village in East Devon and my family are still there, then also lived in Exeter and Plymouth for a time. Spent a lot of time on Dartmoor, love it.

Hi Chloe, New to your channel, loved the birdsong. I'd love to end up living somewhere with a daily chorus like that. Robins are so brave, especially if you reward them with a crumb or two. You mentioned camping alone versus with others, I've been looking for a club/group that start off together but then pitch a few hundred yards apart so you get that solo feel. Cheers Graham

Oh I'm sure you can find some new friends in wild camping groups on FB etc. I'm not sure if there will be wild camping groups, as the ethos is to spread out and avoid pitching lots of tents in the same spot, but I'm sure there's support out there. There's also 'nearly wild' campsites that could help bridge the gap.

Thanks for another epic episode. Beautiful photography of a gorgeous place. Love the Green Beret hound! PS, spring has finally arrived in Alaska.

Yay 🌸 I feel like we have dark, wet winters, I can't imagine what it must be like to be in Alaska! Another place I must visit!

Lovely video, really relaxing. Your dog reminds me of my family dog when I was in my teens and into my 20s, he was a liver and white Springer Spaniel, Fudge, such wonderful energy and a real character. Subscribed. 😊

Aw Fudge is such a cute name. They do have such energy don't they! Cam was very well behaviour on this 😄 but they all have their mad spaniel moments. Thanks for subscribing 😊

Thanks Andy, the first time I went out after it happened we nearly jumped a wall when a big dog ran over to us miles away from its owner 🙈 The heartbeat is gradually coming down day by day 😅

A fallen tree can really help, using the area for cover. I use midge nets & camo nets so I'm okay there. Yes finding the spots on way on treks or mtb rides in my case. Having the dog gives you some protection. Oh didn't know your dog got attacked sorry to hear. The tracker is a brilliant idea. Nice music - fitting for the video. There is no such thing as bad dogs only bad owners. That's a cute wee dog.

I love your videos and I hope you will meet up with your kindred spirit ; Wild Beare . Both of you have the same love of the out of doors and provide wonderful videos and advice for so many of us whom are wishing they had your get up and go . Claire of Wild Beare makes the same thorough plans you have when preparing your solo adventures . I look forward to more of your solo travels . Mary of Dundas , Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 ( age 75 )

Your photography is amazing, very nicely done. You bring a very artistic perspective to your adventures, thats rare. Have you considered doing some trails abroad? TMB, Alta Via, Iceland, Rocky Mountains, or New Zealand? The Lake District is amazingly beautiful and the trails are endless but the world awaits.

Thank you 😊 Yes, I've hiked abroad. I don't travel as much these days as I have a dog but will get some things planned in, definitely NZ.

I’m a little late in seeing this. Love your videos. Here in Montana nobody would go backpacking without carrying bear spray. I don’t even know if they sell that in the UK but it’s basically pepper spray. I’m sure it would work on aggressive dogs. Keep well.
@FablesandFells5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the thought. The police have PAVA but any sprays like that are illegal for the general public.
