I didn't even listen to country music. But one day on a long drive I was crossing the dial and there was The Voice. I drove to my nearest record store and bought everything with his name on it. Great, good man. Great, good artist. Tremendous influence. Once in two or three generations someone comes along with Don's level of class. There'll be loads of cliches spoken about him, so let's begin with this one -- HE WAS THE GREATEST, EVER!!! He loved the Lord, too, so I know that one of these days I'm going to have the privilege of meeting him. Great job down here, Don! And hey, they gotta auction the hat....

This is what country music was. Not the crap they sing today. I saw him in Vegas one time and he was just awesome. Just sat on the stage with his cup of coffee and sang on and on and on. Great show.

I grew up on the music of the Pozo Seco Singers. In the early 1980's my father introduced me to the music of Don Williams .He played his trucks' 8-track player. My dad passed away in 1982. Dad RIP, and Don Williams RIP too.

My condolences to family and friends, you should know that Don wasn't just a singer to most of us, but considered by so many almost as family. We grew and grew up as a family listening to Don. Listening to him is like wearing your favourite warm jacket that's just the right fit, or the perfect set of gloves. Thank you Don for all the great music you have given us that helped us through the good and the bad the happy and the sad. Thank you 😢

I remember my first-ever trip to Tennessee, on the same trip that marked my first trip to West Virginia... I prepared a cassette tape for the rental car that I could play as I crossed the border of each, for the first time. It was obvious that "Take Me Home Country Roads" was the song I needed for West Virginia, and it was obvious to me that I needed Don's version of "Good Ol' Boys Like Me" for Tennessee. That song soooooooooo matches my feelings about, and sense for Tennessee, and Don's gentle voice made the tune all that it has ever seemed to be since I first heard it nearly 40 years ago. Tonight I was just... browsing various musical selections on KZbin, and it is only here that I just learned of Don Williams' passing. I hope his family can gain some small appreciation for how a few of Don's songs affected somebody who is about as far (geographically, among those in the continental USA anyway) as can be from Nashville. I remember clearly that my first entry into Tennessee came via the Great Smokey Mountains from SC, and I had the song queued-up and ready as the state line approached. Thank you, Don Williams, for representing country music so very well during your lifetime. I wish I could hear "Good Ol' Boys Like Me" somewhere, in direct tribute. (I still have the 45rpm record of it)

I wasn't born in the late 70s / early 80s when Don was in his prime, but he has had the most impact on me more than any artiste of any generation has had. It's probably because I have an old soul. There's something comforting about his baritone voice; it's peace-inducing. Then his lyrics, those lyrics have you smiling (a satisfying smile that come from someone sharing a familiar thought) and thinking to yourself "sure, I can relate to that". Unfortunately, I never got to attend any of his concerts...
