I know of two places near to me and I applied for jobs at both years ago and was not successful. They have had a big turnover of that post in the last three years - I definitely wouldn’t apply again. The cheapening of your standards committee by the President in not disciplining Miss Conway, undermines the most basic of trust normal employees of your government need to have confidence in the whole system. It's not about office holders or even federal employees either really. It's about a federal employee while engaged in an official capacity endorsing a candidate. If you're being interviewed as the, insert federal designation here, and you endorse a candidate you're unfairly using your position to get the endorsement out to many millions more than the other candidate would be able to. Also the endorsement carries more weight coming from an "official" of the government. Well, normally it would, with this administration it seems to have the opposite effect.

On Conway and the Hatch Act violations report: OSC investigates and submits reports to the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB). That board judges whether removal is warranted. Actual removal is then a matter of the federal employer's administrative discretion. In Conway's case that is the Trump White House and Trump is apparently unlikely to take any action. The only penalty to the employee is removal from office but de facto also loss of pay for 18 months. Because the penalty to the employer is that it will not get funded for that salary for that period. Furthermore, if after removal (within 18 months), Conway were to get employed by another state or federal agency, that employer also will not get funded for her salary. So the sane move for Conway would be to resign and for the White House to send her away. The kicker is that currently the MSPB does not have enough members to issue such majority requiring decisions, which allows both Conway and Trump to just shrug the OSC findings off. No decisions, no penalties. Even if the board does get sufficiently filled soon, there is still an ever growing enormous backlog of other waiting cases and the Conway cases will likely not be at the top of that pile. The Trump administration is truly draining the swamp, but to replace it with a shithole jungle where the law is only meant for wiping off.
